  • Comment removed

  • DOES ANYBODY KNOWS THE ARTIST OF FIRST REGGAE SONG??? thanks in advance

  • omg sorry to be rude but thats a stupid question.

its a musical genre, which is not something you invent but travelled (from africa) and mutated to become what we now know as reggae. calyspo mixed with american influenced r'n'b eventually became ska which slowed down to become rocksteady then slowly became the reggae sound. or something like that, but i am not an authority on the matter

  • It's a genre therefore he's not said anything wrong. He just asked who the artist was who wrote the Reggae song. "Not which song is this by Reggae?" or "who wrote Reggae?"

As for misinformation, where on Earth did you learn Reggae came after Rocksteady and Ska? It came before, as a well learned person like yourself will know (guffaw) as a result of traditional African music having an off beat pattern with an almost trance like rhythm.

  • if you think that the most defining element of reggae is the emphasis on the upbeat, i suggest you pay closer attention.

if you have an actual interest in the vast variety of musical styles which fall under the umbrella term "reggae" i suggest reading Bass Culture: when reggae was king by Lloyd Bradley

  • The upbeat? It's the off beat you cretin. As in 1 AND 2 AND 3 AND 4 AND. The AND being the most important element.

I have more than an interest. Having listened to an enormous amount of Trojan Records.

I have an interest in all kinds of music and understand alot about theory. It helps when you try to have a go at someone about saying off beat instead of what you percieve as the correct term. When in fact you're wrong.

  • No I said it came about from the off beat. I didn't say it was the most important thing did I?

It's about the soul in the music. It's defining factor would probably be the drum and guitars off beats with everything else falling inbetween. As well as this the rolling bass line is always evident.

  • if you're familiar with the trojan collection, i'm baffled as to how you might think that reggae was the precursor to ska and rocksteady? maybe have a look at when they were recorded... i'm baffled.

and if you're gonna keep to your eurocentric musical terms and believe that yours is the only way of explaining music you're not gonna get far in the world my friend. you know perfectly well what i meant, so why shoul we be arguing on what in context should be called SKANK.

  • Sorry yeah, you're right. I took UK Ska to be newer. That's why I didn't understand.

  • Nah, dude. Ska came first. They slowed it downed and called it reggae.

  • Nope, reggae was first. It was too slow to dance to so they sped it up at the dance halls.

  • lol

  • ska came first then rocksteady then reggae

  • smoking too much of the ganja man... ska was first, then came rocksteady, then came reggae. know your history.

  • Holly shit I musta, don't know what the fuck I was thinkin. Completely backwards. Ska first then rocksteady, then Reggae. I hang my porkpie hat in shame.

  • nice sounds, and nice french beret

  • now i need a spliff....

  • nice:D:D
