Poland is pretty badass. Fought the Wehrmacht and held out longer than any other continental European nation, and inflicted far more casualties than the Germans expected. Then even after Warsaw fell, they didn't quit and formed a fully functioning underground government and army in addition to their exiled forces. They did not quit and fought on to the very end of the war.

@ozvulcan I think they are referring to the Phoney War. Besides some skirmishes on the sea there hardly was any war effort from the French & British side until May 1940. They let the Germans occupy Poland, Denmark and Norway. So from a Polish point of view, the Poles were left alone by the Allies. But you are right about the British efforts after the defeat of France which are highly admirable.

It was the polish government who were convinced that they could gain from war, with jews, germans, and americans encouraging them. And hell, as you can see, eventually they did "win" after all. And deported all the germans from the new polish land.

Hitler invaded after the order had been given to mobilize the polish army.

Battle for Warsaw has begun at 08 of September. But Polish army restrained German attacks. After "allies turned" away in 14Sept Warsaw was surrounded by German army. And in 22Sept the order was to attack Warsaw. 28Sept - Warsaw gov signed capitulation agreement.

So, there is no mistake in this song.

Allies did want war, it was the brits/jews/americans who were encouraging the poles to reject all german negotiations.

Britain and France declared war on Germany.

You'll notice that the soviets invaded poland a few weeks later, yet the soviets were teh "allies" and the nazi's "evil".

Obviously poland thought they could fight a war and win in some fashion, they were wrong.

Hitler was merely regaining land stolen 20 years previous in versaille. Czechslavakia was part of austria then, and for a thousand years or more before, part of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation.

Today we learnt in school about WWII and how Poland was attacked by Germany and Russia while England and France just watched. And I really felt kind of patriotic even though I'm not Polish or even remotely close to one. Just felt admiration for these guys, who gave their lives for their country, fought bravely, knowing that no one would help, but still gave their lives for their country.
