  • i know i'm commenting two years after this was made but i looked for the liquid poly but couldn't find any in stores here in america but my dad gave me a great idea based off of this concept... pvc pipe cement (rain or shine is the brand i used) "welds" the plastic together like that and yes i tried it and it works great so for you other americans use PVC PIPE CEMENT :D

  • Sounds like the right stuff. The chemical name is BUTANONE or methyl ethyl ketone or MEK. If your stuff has any of that on it, it'll be the same stuff.

The only problem is that liquid poly is runny, like water or rubbing alcohol. The Cement stuff tends to be thicker (although not always). Thicker stuff means you use more and can cause warping of the plastic if you're not careful. I've tried the thicker stuff, and always come back to the thin stuff.

  • ha i did it with both crazy glue wrks better

  • Did you test both for durability? While krazy glue is stronger initially, if allowed a good 8-12 hrs to set, I feel liquid poly cement will outlast krazy glue over a good period of use. I would love to be proved wrong, but only if both had a decent period of use to prove / disprove.

  • i used something called, here let me look lol........Krazy Glue lol it worked extremly well!,it dried in the 30 seconds, and i even tryied pulling it apart and it wont move lol

  • Krazy Glue and super glue are the same thing. That stuff is fast drying and strong, but not durable. It doesn't work well when it is subjected to constant sheer forces, such as you get in a modded cube like this.

Liquid poly welds the two plastics together so they act as though they were made that way to start with.

Try glueing 2 spare cubies together with Krazy glue and then another 2 with liquid poly. Leave to set overnight and then try to twist them apart. The krazyglue will fail 1st.

  • I use Krazy Glue too! Works so much better

  • Have you ever had the chance to commpare it with liquid poly?

  • Dont need to. It works better because its more reliably available in most retail stores and has not broke yet. If it aint broke, dont fix it.

  • A fair point, however your post states how much better krazy glue is, and yet you have not had the chance to compare with liquid poly. I have used both many times over the last 20 years. When it comes to gluing polystyrene based plastics (such as cubes) together, poly is the clear winner. krazy glue sits as a layer between the plastics, creating 2 potential surfaces of weakness. Poly welds them together, merging the two - one surface of weakness.

  • touche

  • Thanks for the tip might try that myself.

  • Cheers. I recommend the stuff.

I did eventually make one and the glue makes it work a treat.

  • thanks very much for this! its been a great help for me and iv now made a great siamese cube :D thanks :D:D

  • np. I haven't made one myself, but used the poly cement for loads of cube mods. It's great stuff!

  • This is helpful, I've been wanting to do some other mods of my own, thanks.

  • No problem. Hope you can get hold of the stuff. Most model shops and craft shops should stock it. Games workshop used to stock it. Don't know if they still do. Hardware shops will stock poly cement, but it's usually the thicker stuff. I recommend the thin stuff every time. Check out my page for a look at some of my other mods if you like.
