hi i have a question and im hoping someone can answer i tried to post on the coh forums but i cant log in...anyway im thinking of getting this game and i dowloaded the trial a few days ago....but i get to the log in page and i can log in but when i select a server it says "cant connect to db server" and idk how to fix it, would i have this problem with a store bought copy of the game? or am i just wasting my time?
@sh4d0wbl4st Oh yeah I remember that old bugger.... Reset your modem, check all Internet Connections and then try again. Could have been you or it could be the game was down for maintenance. Let me know when you get the game.
well actually i tried that about maybe an hour or two ago....still didnt work...iv tried defragmenting my computer...i downloaded and installed the game client like 4 times since friday...i even tried the eu version for some reason...should have known that wouldnt work...and so far it still hasnt worked...i was able to log in but i cant get on any servers.....im about ready to give up...
@desojandoxmargaritas lol didnt think anyone was still paying attention...actually i guess it was my firewall because i turned it off and i could get onto a server....but now when i try to load the tutorial it loads for 5 minutes maybe then sends me back to the log in screen...and if i try to make a character and skip the tutorial after that happens the screen goes black when i go to the registration page...
@desojandoxmargaritas and id try to see if it works again....but unfortunately...i think i messed up the program yesterday...accidentally closed the updater while it was downloading a patch....but my parents want me to just buy the game and see if i can get it working if not they will give me back the money...so im gonna wait till then to mess with it more...i really want to try this game so i hope i can get it working lol
Almost every addition to City of Heroes makes me just sit there, applauding the devs at the awesome work, ideas, and effort they put into whatever they're releasing. I'm a 15 month vet, so to some thats a lot, and to others it may be small, but since I joined, I've noticed the game just get better and better, and I can't believe how creative the dev's are. Personally, this is one of the BEST MMOs out there. Only other thing I request is 'real-time' weather effects... XD

It's wonderful how it feels like a whole new game almost every update, I feel as if I'm anticipating yet another game I've never played and am dying to get my hands on. I saw a couple characters in some of these Going Rogue videos had glowing panels on their costume pieces. Will we be getting access to glowing costume pieces, then?
I cannot believe how much has happened since issue 1. This is an insane super hero mmorpg game. Fun stuff. I still look forward, somewhere in the future, to advanced mechanics with speedster heros, but that's for later.
This game has some of the best teaming and power f/x I've seen in a game. However, repeatedly, repeatedly, repeatedly defeating baddies is pretty much 99% of what missions (their version of quests) require you to do. They REALLY need to add some new game mechanics for missions. Maybe GR will add some new ways to interact with then environment, I certainly hope so.
As far as this video is concerned. It's nice but the DEVs are a little excessive on the hyperbolic praise.
I've been on Beta (sounds like i can talk about it now), i have a 4350 radeon card and had to do minimal ultra mode but even with that it was great. The branched storylines are really engaging. I've been at the game 6 yrs+ and I must admit, the storylines are very immersive. I expect that after this they will add more content for higher levels and they've committed I thought to really focusing on end-game higher end content once they get the bugs worked out with the incarnate system.
Well, PvP was never really a big part of CoX, but yeah, issue 13 stomped a mudhole in it. If I was conspiratorially-minded, I might even think it was on purpose because they were sick of messing with it. :p
Yeah. you might be making pve in this game "better" than in any mmo, but you completely failed at pvp. Rename the game into City of Cat Girls please, it would be more suiting heh.
I don't agree with the "Rebel=Good Loyalist=Evil" thing, because loyalist, despite that they look a lot like arachnos goons, bring some good things too, while the rebels, even when they say they want to fight evil loyalist, act more like terrorists than heroic people, so indeed, its a grey world, when both side have good and (very) bad sides.
You know, if they really wanted to portray Praetoria as being more Grey than Black and White then they shouldn't flat out refer to Emperor Cole's government as "corrupt" neither should they say "good and evil is reversed" considering any monkey could figure out the implications behind that. But, whatever, they've already been making it obvious that Rebel=Good Loyalist=Evil from the very beginning
The graphics look fantastic. I'm really hoping the older zones get a little refresh after GR launches. Nothing too large like the change to Faultline, but just stuff to take advantage of all the advances in the game.
@browningchannel The devs had stated they rather make new zones than revamp old ones like they did with Faultline. They said you either can get new zones or revamp ones not both.

It lags my computer too. I have sli and a high high high freaking end pc. My old pc from 3 years ago ran this game better than my new one. Pretty poor coding on this ultra useless mode. It would have been better to put that money into making the particles and local lights match up with modern games, over making the city maps looks "better" when i spend 98% of my time in instanced missions.

I've been a loyal player since inception, but they've NEVER done travel powers right, and back in Issue 4 they literally crippled the players with Travel Power Suppression. Since then, despite (and sometimes because of) endless additional bells and whistles, the game has become more and more just a fantasy MMO in spandex. Whatever it turns into now, until Posi and the gang "get it", that Travel Power Suppression is WRONG, the game will be living on borrowed time til DCUO goes live. Oh, well.
@dontopenthat I wouldn't go so low to pick on how the devs look. They may not take care of themselves, but the game is good. The real issue is the stupid ultra mode and the costume pieces that go to group play (while some of us play late hours and never have grouped for the big stuff EVER.) I really don't want the incarnate system unless is soloable, and the new "enhancements" don't make us have to respec our whole character... that would be total BS.

I have been a big fan of the game since the beginning. The majority of my supergroup is gone, but I am hanging in there. Playing Going Rogue on beta has been awesome. In upcoming issues I hope the devs add content to Praetoria, I would like to have hung out there longer than level 20/21. I am staying optimistic!

The only thing i hate is that it's only for 1-20. It would rock if they added more zones and you could go from 1-50 in New Praetoria. That would be awesome. Perhaps that will come with time though. I love CoH and will be a member until it goes down.
As more updates come out, they plan on adding to praetoria but it won't be much. Atleast not full size zones dedicated to levels 30-40. most like moderately sized zones for 20-40. This way a larger player base will be able to go there thus more teams will be forms etc.
@Charliebfan If I recall correctly hey haven't added a new 1-10 level zone since The Hollows back in Issue 2. I suppose it's because 1-10 levels are zipped through so very quickly.
@Kellzilla, from 2:45 to 2:58, the Dual Pistols female character DOES have long moving hair :D I hope it will be available to everyone! I always hated how Ghost Widow had moving(cape) hair >.< And we were left with, as @Malleryfrost mentioned, plastic wigs. PLEAAAASE GIVE US THAT ANIMATED HAIR!!!
@TheBlueLevel So with DCUO and other games coming out, they are hoping to hold on those of us who been asking for over four issues now for stuff to do with our 50s will stay around for that? I was looking forward to GR and I18 till I saw how little there is content was for those of us tired of doing alts to get new content. Half my coalition is gone now because they are tired of waiting.

The Incarnate system as initially implemented was horribly grindy with no specific content generated for it at all. Feedback from the beta testers lead to it being pulled for a more palatable rework. Moreover, the new technologies intro'ed in GR and i17 will lead to better gaming in future issues.

@ygmypay I'm running an intel core 2 duo 2.93GHZ processor, 4 gigs of RAM and two 8800 768 MB GTX Ultras running in SLI and unless I turn practically everything off the game is a slide show.I think my GFX cards are on there last legs so it may be a hardware problem, but the game is literally unplayable in some of the new maps. The lab's for example are literally a sideshow for me for some reason.
I don't know what all this complaining is about in terms of upgrades. My computer and video card are 2 years old (some parts older as old as 2003), and I can run ultramode settings. With a new Radeon 5770 card - which runs all of $140-$180 at Newegg, I could be running the settings maxed out. And I am not a hardcore gamer. Sure, I may have to turn them down for Rikti Mothership raids, but 99% of the time, with 4gigs of ram, I am currently able to run the game with mid-level ultramode settings.

Finally! Hair that MOVES when you move. Seriously, I was so tired of having a character who looks like she's wearing a plastic wig. I'm glad they added more of a realistic feel to the game.
@quartzeye20 it looks great even on minimum settings, I dunno if you played the beta or not but my system can handle the ultra mode and I still play at the middle settings cuz it looks amazing.
Such a shame, though, that Praetoria looks HORRIBLE if your computer can't handle Ultra mode, not even as nice as the oldest, least-updated Paragon City zones. :(

The only thing i hate is that it's only for 1-20. It would rock if they added more zones and you could go from 1-50 in New Praetoria. That would be awesome. Perhaps that will come with time though. I love CoH and will be a member until it goes down.

As more updates come out, they plan on adding to praetoria but it won't be much. Atleast not full size zones dedicated to levels 30-40. most like moderately sized zones for 20-40. This way a larger player base will be able to go there thus more teams will be forms etc.

@Charliebfan If I recall correctly hey haven't added a new 1-10 level zone since The Hollows back in Issue 2. I suppose it's because 1-10 levels are zipped through so very quickly.

@Kellzilla, from 2:45 to 2:58, the Dual Pistols female character DOES have long moving hair :D I hope it will be available to everyone! I always hated how Ghost Widow had moving(cape) hair >.< And we were left with, as @Malleryfrost mentioned, plastic wigs. PLEAAAASE GIVE US THAT ANIMATED HAIR!!!

@TheBlueLevel So with DCUO and other games coming out, they are hoping to hold on those of us who been asking for over four issues now for stuff to do with our 50s will stay around for that? I was looking forward to GR and I18 till I saw how little there is content was for those of us tired of doing alts to get new content. Half my coalition is gone now because they are tired of waiting.
I love this game but they are dropping the ball here and I'm going to keep calling them out about it

But it doesn't change the fact that this DOES move CoH forward. Or do you get an appetizer, finish it, and then declare your dinner sucked because there wasn't enough food? @redcomet7 "Just stating the facts". No, you're stating your OPINIONS and a bunch of bad info to bolster them. What didn't come out for i18 was the 1st Incarnate slot. Rightly so. The Incarnate system as initially implemented was horribly grindy with no specific content generated for it at all. Feedback from the beta testers lead to it being pulled for a more palatable rework. Moreover, the new technologies intro'ed in GR and i17 will lead to better gaming in future issues.

I use a 6 year old Pentium IV, single core machine to run this game and, with a mid tier video card, I have plenty of Ultra Mode options turned up.
I was amazed at how high I could push things and still play (I thought I would only be able to get a tiny bit of it, if any at all).
Also... Paragon Studios is the best development team around and creates a great atmosphere and community to be a part of.
It's all about fun... and much fun is to be found here.
Just my opinion!

@ygmypay I'm running an intel core 2 duo 2.93GHZ processor, 4 gigs of RAM and two 8800 768 MB GTX Ultras running in SLI and unless I turn practically everything off the game is a slide show.I think my GFX cards are on there last legs so it may be a hardware problem, but the game is literally unplayable in some of the new maps. The lab's for example are literally a sideshow for me for some reason.

I don't know what all this complaining is about in terms of upgrades. My computer and video card are 2 years old (some parts older as old as 2003), and I can run ultramode settings. With a new Radeon 5770 card - which runs all of $140-$180 at Newegg, I could be running the settings maxed out. And I am not a hardcore gamer. Sure, I may have to turn them down for Rikti Mothership raids, but 99% of the time, with 4gigs of ram, I am currently able to run the game with mid-level ultramode settings.

The starting point for Ultra Mode graphics is RadeonHD 4850 and Geforce GTS 250.
If you want all Ultra Mode options at once in 1920*1200 the starting point is RadeonHD 5770 and Geforce GTX.

Finally! Hair that MOVES when you move. Seriously, I was so tired of having a character who looks like she's wearing a plastic wig. I'm glad they added more of a realistic feel to the game.

Such a shame, though, that Praetoria looks HORRIBLE if your computer can't handle Ultra mode, not even as nice as the oldest, least-updated Paragon City zones. :(
