  • I bought this album when it was issued and played it until it was worn out then bought it again and years later, again. It still affects me and this track in particular still moves me.

  • Beautiful

  • So good for all times pure progressive rock just Genesis¡

  • Sounds fused with soul ... I'm crying! eternal Music

  • Tears stream down my face listening to this song. Powerful.

  • wow!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I remember seeing Genesis at the Glasgow Apollo on the Trick Of The Tail tour with Bill Bruford on the drums along with Phil C, after 5 minutes all worries about Peter Gabriel's absence had disappeared ! An amazing gig !

  • Its the best 'transition' album. Leaving Gabriel behind was difficult for some and this collection eased the mental strain. I like DerUbermensch's reference to the stars cos that's where we're all going later on...... ha ha ha Genesis you bxxtards couldn't you have just done crappy pop songs with weird managers instead? Couldn't you have crossed Abbey Road on a zebra and faked sincerity like most of the rest?

  • One of the best songs for the Mellotron ending - EVER...

  • @prog4evr Ah the marvellous, mellifluous mellotron, you're like an opera singer without restraint, a backing angel with a rheostat (surely some mistake) ha ha

  • I love this song!!!

  • Great track written by Steve Hackett & Tony Banks ; I'd like them to work together again... a dream...

  • @ladislas59

Me i had the same dream: Hackett, banks and maybe rutherford for a new genesis album.

  • ai 2 che hanno scritto non mi piace vorrei chiedere se hanno l'apparato uditivo a posto? Capolavoro!

  • molto bella !

  • "...Madrigal music is playing,

    Voices can faintly be heard,

    "Please leave this patient undisturbed...".

  • Che bella!

  • Awesome ending, Simple beautiful.

  • Stop talking about this song!

It's much useful to listen and nothing more.

  • I to this day still Absolutly love this song, I believe this album along with Wind & Weathering are the best Genesis Albums...Please comment on your favorites

  • @MrTonyCola Selling England and Foxtrot, tho this album is right behind!

  • @rodcrippler No my friend. It`s ahead of them.

  • @MrTonyCola Totally agree. Foxtrot WAS my favourite but now it "Trick". Everyone goes on about how Genesis were shit after PG left. WRONGGGGG they went shit after Steve Hackett left. Do the math`

  • @TheFifeFlyers Still prefer Collins era before the contemporary music and commercial crap which is out there. Some songs on Duke is good, some om We can't dance etc. But of course I prefer their Progressive rock era but to say that they became crap afterwords is so wrong.

  • @MrTonyCola Sorry to be pedantic, but it's Wind And Wuthering, not Weathering. I'm sure you knew that though !

  • @terrypussypower Or maybe a touch syntax obsessed ;O))

  • @MrTonyCola ps. My favourite Genesis album is The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, Genesis In Excelsis !!

  • ˜”*°• ♥ •°*”˜

    ˙·٠•●♥ღ.*♫•* ♫♪

  • so futuristic sounding for '73. celestial!

  • @jamesedwardtheobald

    Technically '76

  • I saw them for the 1st time @ Masonic Temple in Detroit,MI. An acoustically perfect venue, had to be late 70's. Wide eyed girl, not knowing what to expect, mesmerized by the performance, I promised myself I would see them every time they came to Detroit from then on. A promise I kept. The music is timeless and to this day, when asked what show is the best I've ever seen and my favorite band, the answer to both questions is the same...GENESIS!!!

  • There once was a girl named Sara that I loved.....this song is dedicated to whatever we should've shared.

  • This is an amazing track taken from a great album. Remember my father playing this when I was a small child in our car. Brings back so many memories..at least for me!

  • always can look back to old classics and it still works today.

  • just one of the things that make life worthwhile...

  • Genesis with peter Gabriel was the best

  • @wwwonderful yes that is true But A Trick Of The Tail is by far best ever Album

  • Comment removed

  • this song makes me cry

  • @jubalprogject That's totally normal dude. :)

  • are the lyrics really from phil?????????? on this song ?On the whole album?

  • @Wakeupdream Lyrics by Banks, Rutherford. Collins only on Robbery, Assault and Battery

  • Beautiful work here!

  • I'm Crying

  • @DerUbermensch87 How close to heaven can you get ? The second part of this song is like hearing the singing angels of the Revelation, coming down on Earth to deliver mankind. You suddenly find yourself flying in clouds, becoming the light, becoming one. Probably one of the most beautiful progressive finale written in the 70s that litterally sends you on a trip to the stars and beyond ! On that same album, try Mad Mad Moon. Undeniably, the album A Trick of the Tail will live for years to come!

  • @progtoeternity Not going to lie, I have designed planets to this song.

  • @progtoeternity I couldn't agree more. Well articulated. It's incumbent upon us to share this timeless music with our children...and their children, as well...seeing as all the useless and sebaceous dreck that is called music today will never have the staying power of bands like Genesis, Pink Floyd, Yes, King Crimson, etc. Need I say more?...

  • Who made the cover for this album ?

  • @pewploid Hipgnosis, the same group that made a lot of epic cover, for a lot of historical bands, especially on the progressive scene, such as Pink Floyd, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Alan Parson Parsons Project, Led Zeppelin, Le Orme, Black Sabbath (i don't want to say that all this bands plays or played progressive). This cover in particular is awesome, in my opinion the lyrics wrote within the vinyl cover are handmade, cause there isn't a letter equal to another one. And what about the drawings?

  • Awesome album still to this day! Thanks niffelhem000 it is a wonderful recording for us audiophiles! =)

  • What a nice song and great instrumentals for the time

  • thanks dear daddy for raising me with this great great GREAT band. made me who I am. 19 years old and able to enjoy pure works of art

  • One of the most beautiful, haunting chord changes ever produced at 0.54 and 2.45.

  • I love this song, but I think it was absolutely BUTCHERED in the 2007 remaster.

  • MELLOTRON CHOIR + THEREMIN = greatest outro of all time.

  • @wrs6565 Theremin? nah, I don't think so. That high pitched sound is from the ARP synth

  • @wrs6565 I don't think it's a theremin, it's a higher choir with mellotron...

  • @wrs6565 Yeah, makes the hair stand up on my neck....pretty good test of greatness for me anyway.

  • @wrs6565 My friend--there is no theramin:Tony is playing a touch-sensitive keyboard that responds to pressure on the keys.Pretty cool,no? jus'sayin'.Peace

  • I know this feeling from experience. When I first bought this Album in the seventies I had know idea how much it would mean to me in later years. It is an amazing song from people who are very sensitive. Love Genesis and all it's members.

  • with your consent? This music is a place to hear what you want to, feel how you feel...and just knowing you get it when others don't? sigh.....

  • I'm a 16 years old girl and I have been listening to Phil and Genesis' music since I was 14. I NEVER listen to what teenagers today listen too, like Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars etc. I can't understand how people can find their music better than i.e Genesis. Entangled is simply amazing!

  • @mlintu me too, plus pink floyd and steve hackett. my dorm is covered in these posters, none of the shit today's airheads listen to. right?

  • @charliejamesrobb yep. *hifive*

  • @mlintu good for you, you'll find that it will be a pattern that develops even more over your life. You see something most of the others are blind to and you don't get why. Welcome to the club.

  • In the last few minutes I feel like I'm being pulled into heaven.

  • 4:20 until the end is just pure awesomeness. Heh, 420. Coincidence ? xD

  • starting from 4:20 until the end is just pure awesomeness. Heh, 420. Coincidence ? xD

  • well, if we can help you we will, your' looking tired & ill. this music was acually like taking a tranquilizer. they just made it magic.......

  • de regen valt met bakken uit de hemel, uit de radio klinkt als een wonder dit hemelse lied

  • esta música nos faz viajar no fundo da alma e não querer voltar nunca mais!

  • There is one asshole who doesn't know anything about good music.

  • That really is the GENESIS!

  • Just excellent.

  • Thanks for posting it helps with what's happening to me right now

  • I have seen this live over a dozen times and it only gets better!

  • This piece of music never fails to move me. It touches the very soul

  • The most beautiful ending to a song ever.

  • OR you could have/should have seen this LIVE!!!!!

  • My dream up today: banks and hackett!

  • Cette chanson est dédiée a mon ami Jean-Luc Bourrelly , de qui je croyais pouvoir m'éloigner ...comme Ça...tout simplement...

  • this is what happens when music is made by musicians, rather than doofuses with sequencers and protools.

  • @pngilman there are musicians using sequencers and protools that are great musicians, and make music with their souls.

  • When that chorus comes together at 6:07...it's almost a...ooh....*shivers*...spiritual moment...the instrumental ending is just amazing...I wonder what inspired them to end this song like this?

  • @Indigite99 I wonder too very times what inspired them to create such marvellous masterpieces...

  • This song is beautiful.

    It just is.

I cry EVERY SINGLE TIME I hear it.

    It's just that beautiful

  • God although I was only about 6 when this came out it is a beautiful piece. The madrigal-ish end part conjures up all sorts of ethereal images. The reflection of lush green wood on a long, summer night seen in still stygian black water of misty pond.Inhabited by all sorts of wonderous creatures that just flit in and out of your vision, through the hazy smoke the fabled black lotus, playing and love making by the light of three blood red moons.

  • To all genesis fans you must check out" michael khulmann Spielt " a total amazing piano player who covers all genesis, yes,and other groups,it's a must to add to your favourites ,ENJOY

  • @dchilds08 I'll give it a check

  • the production quality of this album still astounds me

  • Genesis are awesome, end of!

  • als het leeg wordt in mij en de wanhoop bezit neemt van mij, dan luister ik naar deze geniale compositie...

  • god this song is just amazing

  • Best part 4:13 - 6:25

  • @ricardoxot No, the best part is 0:00 to 6:25.

  • Genesis always reminds me of Pink Floyd. The way the music transcends beyond just sound and into feeling... it's unreal.

  • AAhhh - oh that's so much better! Just finished playing in my humble opinion of the world's most madrigal song! Everything of the here and now melted away, floated and flew, dissolved and drank it down, I now feel like life isn't so bad. Okay it is but this song makes it all a little better. Would the final mellotron section by Hackett make a more fitting funeral piece or just a perfect lullaby peoples...

Entangled and cherished forever. Sleep well all ; -D xxx

  • It was actually made in 1975 and released in 1976. ^^

  • This is a genius piece of music, hard to believe that it was made in the 60s. This is like art

  • @Zanexia1 It was made in 1976

  • I have always (or, at least as long as I can remember) felt that this song was based on the 1971 novel "The Lathe of Heaven" by Ursula K. Le Guin.

Check out "The Lathe of Heaven" on Wikipedia and see if you agree.

  • @DizGrizz I've heard audio clips from the 1976 Trick of the Tail tour in which Steve Hackett introduces the song (this is when Phil was still nervous about what to say in between songs). When Steven introduces the song, he says it is based on a series of paintings by Kim Poor.

  • I know what you mean AnonymousProffession: I lay in the dark and use it as a relaxation piece - I get total goosebumps especially at the choral voices singing the last bit, startiing in Bminor, F#minor, Eminor - I'm floating through outer space and those chords are awesome!

  • @MsDiddleydo I totally agree and have had the same experience. Entangled, a beautiful song with it's own melodious atmosphere that takes you away to another place, filled with beauty.

  • My fathers favorite band is Genesis. Now I understand why.

  • @theturtledude12 My dad's fav band is Genesis too. And guess what: So is mine :)

  • Tony Banks is a genius!!!

  • @steve123k yesssssssssssssssssssssssss !

  • WHO is able to dislike this?

  • @Brezlbub anyone who that doesnt likes this

  • @Brezlbub Gabriel era fans.

  • @ThroughRock I have to disagree :) I'm a Gabriel-Genesis fan but I love this beautiful piece of art.

"A Trick Of The Tail" is one of thier best albums. In my humble opinion it's the best album after Gabriel left.

  • @Raelsalmacis I meant fans that are only fans of the Gabriel era of Genesis, not Gabriel era fans in general.

  • @Raelsalmacis

    Veryyyyyyy right !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fuck rap, it isn't music its total crap, all of it. THIS is music played by Real musicians who play REAL instruments. NOT a bunch of incoherent drivel put over a drum loop while waving dollar bills in front of a video camera telling the world how great you are and extolling the virtues of selling drugs and pimping. Nuff said.

  • my favorite album from Genesis!!! partyed and many bongs to this album...great album to listen to when your high not saying you need to be high to love Genesis but this was our party album when catching a buzz!!!!!!! I'm 48 today and still like to catch a good buzz and listen to this and sing....

  • Ok, I'll bite. Who are these "many bigname black jazz musicians who say rap is not music"? To say that rap is not music is fundamentally stupid, regardless of one's resume. If it's not your cup of tea, then fine, but my message here is DO NOT JUDGE WHAT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. You are playing a cocktail party dominance game. Take the challenge to immerse yourself in the music, then come back and make your comments. I bet you'll have a different attitude.

  • @missyousnooky - I will look for that interview/essay of the respected black jazz elder that says rap is not music, and the others as well. There are many black musicians that decry the abandonment of jazz by todays black culture. Can't understand rap? there's nothing to understand there. make a drum loop, talk/rap over it, add a few simple synth lines, steal some samples off a real musicians LP and you're all done. anyone can make rap, jut like punk or indie rock, all of it is non-musician music

  • I can die with this track on...

  • Hats off to Banks and Hackett.

  • what a piece of art

  • Headphones, max volume, isolation, whatever you feel will dissolve, slowly pulled into the dark surface of an acoustic river, and plunged into the violent depths of an epic crescendo. Turn off the music, stare at the silence around, thinking "Fuck, that was awesome".

  • @AnonymousProffession pretty much hit the nail on the head

    ;)

  • @AnonymousProffession That is the only way to listen to this album to catch every nuance! Remember buying this in 76 on 8 track lol

  • @AnonymousProffession Headphones off just a tad from ear's,in the middle of surround sound,it's like flying, hope u try this even with just 2 speakers, put them at ear level, with headphones,it's wild, trip out.

  • @tripullizer3 Already have, but thanks for the tip.

  • A song written by Hackett and Banks. I'd like them to work together again...

  • Great Mellotron Solo!

  • like the chorus in the end, just great!

  • Just lie back and ENJOY!!

  • entchanting ,timeless,classic genesis

  • of cource, this is paradise. and that without gabriel!

  • Thanks Vap4life and VEGANISM. This one IS special. I was introduced to LP in August '79 when I first became 'experienced'. Yet after buying and listening critically I only liked this song. Fortunately all the others grew on me quickly and it is undoubtedly my favorite Genesis LP. But I respect others' personal favs for Wind & Wuthering, etc.

After pursuing a career in lighting in L.A. I have to say Tony's keys and the advent of Vari-Lite, along w/this group as a whole remain keys of my life.

  • Its great !!!

Its GENESIS! You know boy? as your father were young and hopeful....don´t try to understand, boy ...its an other better generation...its the GENERATION OF GENESIS !!

many greetings to all fans from BERLIN

  • My absolute favorite album...

  • The very song that got me into Genesis... My goodness...

I LOVE how it goes from this to Squonk...

  • @VEGANSAM

    AGREED!!!!

Greetings to you from an old progger

  • The very song that got me into Genesis... My goodness...

  • @VEGANSAM

this song...and the right girl in arms....oh.boy...its paradies.

  • The ending chord progressions are sonically symmetric. Just perfect! These guys could write meaningful pieces.

  • what beautiful harmonics .What beautiful poetry ,What a beautiful arrangement .I hope someday the aliens return the REAL Phil Collins ,Because they left us an imposter .

  • ... Why has it only just occured to me that "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd .. is something of a rip-off of this song , Entangled, By Genesis? ... Roger Waters: why??

  • Yüzünü dökme küçük kız

    Neşelen!

    Neşelen!

    Neşelen!

  • Right you are Lorenza. Our parents did the same, when I came up with "Fragile" from Yes, they said; " This isn´t music":-)

  • one dislike...... i hope that fuck tard is in jail gettin fucked in the ass with ass his homies

  • oh stop fighting, y'all. This song is lovely :-)

  • omg, this song reming so much memories ! i was a little girl, my mom was use to listen to it and i was asking her the name of the ''angels'' that sing this song. lol

  • @evyrouss ....Just like my dotter askingme who plays such powerful music....she was 4 then.

  • @bajovoltage Ohh it's so nice, sweet little girl :)

  • Thank you `You TUBE `...with one song back in the 70´!!!Am i so old now?

  • Sorry to Tio, but comparing Genesis to rap and hip-hop is like comparing a grade school orchestra to Mozart! Popularity doesn't mean talent.

  • @grizelfoot Please don't apologize, I couldn't possibly take those words seriously. First of all Mozart was one man, not a school orchestra, so I'm not sure how that comparison works. Second of all, "Popularity doesn't mean talent", is a very true statement, however here it is completely irrelevant. Are you saying all rap is more popular than all prog therefore prog is superior? Don't belittle anything simply because it's popular or unpopular. The Beatles were popular, are they talentless?

  • @grizelfoot And to just add to that last point. In terms of popularity, the albums of classic prog bands of the 70s like Genesis and Yes sold in droves. They were FAR from unpopular. So again, popularity means next to nothing in terms of quality. Every week awful albums make the charts, while records of real quality sell very poorly. However, great albums can sell millions, and terrible albums can bomb. The one big mistake you should avoid is judging ANYTHING by it's popularity.

  • Sorry to Tio, but comparing Genesis to rap and hip-hop is like comparing a grade school orchestra to Mozart!

  • poignant... that's the only word I think does this song justice...I loved singing and crying to this song!

  • one good song of a great album
