I am middle eastern and also a belly dancer and alot of the comments on here are just incorrect...there are many forms of belly dance...even early celtic people had a form that was very similar...it about art and for women reguardless thier race or ethinic backgrounds to express themselves in a world where they are told what is and what is not beautiful by men who need to take a long long look into the mirror before leaving rude comments.
I don't understand what all the negatative responses are for. It's a form of dance and its beautiful! So what if it isn't "traditional" or it's "fusion"? Dance is a way of expressing yourself and stepping into the larger pattern all around you. At least have the courtesy to respect someone else's choices whether or not YOU would choose it personally! I think these ladies are lovely!
The negative vibe needs to stop right now. Belly dance (in any form) is about expressing ones self. So... just shut up and try to learn something rather then putting it down automatically. The dance style may be different, but the roots are still the same.
I personally don't think that tribal bellydancing looks ridiculous. I think it is a dance form that is captivating, beautiful to watch and is extremely exotic.
It may not be a traditional dance but it simmers all the same. I love it. Especially the decorative ways that the individual dancers adorn themselves. Breath taking.
Nope, it's called an opinion - if you can't justify against my opinion, then you certainly are narrow-minded (literally). By the way, respond by pressing "Reply", unless you don't want me to see your response... wimp.
To judge a video or subject, you must see it first. You can't judge it by its title. And I don't "keep coming here to watch it" - if you keep respond to my comments, then I'll come here to respond. It's common sense.
No, you clearly can't accept opinions and get insulted very easily. It's obvious you don't have a social life as you keep pestering me. Now go away, pest.
Was hat das noch mit gothic zu tun das ist eine verunstaltung dieser schönen scene ekelig echt ihr seit eine schande für uns ihr mistpack ihr elendiges -.-*
How can anyone fuse part of a Middle-Eastern Asian culture with an American/European subculture??? It just looks ridiculous. "Tribal" bellydancing is just a traditional Arabic bellydance move performed throughout, so it's not a separate dance style. Arabic bellydancers normally looks sexy, but she looks hideous. Tedious, Westernized piece of crap! Leave it to the Asians - they look better when belly-dancing and wearing those Asian clothes!
You know, "Tribal" bellydancing was created in the States. All it is is a mixture of all the different bellydancing styles. It is NOT one of the traditional styles.
And who cares who dances what style? I'm German and Irish, and yet I do bellydancing, hip-hop, traditional African dance, ballet, Irish step-dancing, ballroom, tap, jazz, modern.. and I've been doing so since I was 5. Well, the bellydancing, ballroom, and hip-hop, I've only been doing for about 7 years now, but I'm not exactly the worst out there.
Being Indo-Arabic, I know this is only one of the traditional belly-dancing move and other random non-Arabic moves. American/Europeans and are making belly-dancing look unsexy and classless. And that stupid modern Gothicism subculture with OUR dancing??? White western women should stop trying to taint our culture by making a ridiculous "version" of our traditions. As an Arab, I'm really embarrassed by this - I can't stop laughing these wannabes. Americans should get their own ideas!
We do have our own ideas. They're just derived from other ideas- didn't you know? There is no such thing as a completely original "idea".
The U.S is such a melting-pot of cultures, everything is so mixed that we don't exactly have something of our own. Why do you think we start these somewhat strange mixtures of cultures? We want something unique, something different. Something no other country has. I guess that's what Hollywood has become.

Why are you talking about Hollywood? I'm talking about this dance, not films. There is such thing as a completely original idea - e.g. bellydancing is an original idea thought up by Arabs! Unfortunately, the U.S. just doesn't seem to come up with their own ideas without being derived from another. I still feel "tribal bellydancing" looks ridiculous and makes bellydancing in general seem rather classless.
actually, the worship part at the end with isis wings is probably closer to the origins of this dance form than arab raks sharki or turkish oryantal dans. it is not uniquely arab, ancient egyptians, greek, macedonians, armenians, africans, indians, GYPSIES all people have developed similar movements. most of today raks sharki is egyptian and lebanese folclore, but it doesnt belong to arabia only.
When I say "Arab", I don't just mean Arabians but also Egyptians, Arab Lebanese/Turks, Iraqis etc. Bellydance in general is undeniably an Arabic dance with pre-Islamic Arabic origins. This, however, is a very recent "creation" and I personally find it looks ridiculous meshing a silly subculture (i.e. Gothicism) with a traditional culture... doesn't look sexy nor cool.
Of course you are right with what you say about ARab and tradition; I am not sure yet whether i enjoy the goth thing :) it s interesting though, and jehan gamal, an arab woman, is head of this production, and an amazin dancera nd artist..
Your dancing? belly dancing is something that's so old you can't define its precise origin, so you have no claim over it any more than someone in North America. It belongs to every woman. So get the fuck off your high horse and don't watch it if it bothers you.
It has origins within the Middle East, but it's not purely Arabic. There's Greek, Turiskh and others. Especially the forms of it now, are probably nothing like original belly dance. So, take you elitist attitude and shove it. I'm tired of people like you within the belly dance community who act like their style is better than others, just because they think its what's "authentic". I don't particularly like Egyptian entirely, but I don't make an effort to bitch about how much I don't like it.
Wow. You're grammar IS crap. Someone who responds using expletives just shows that he/she/or in your case, "it", is the one who's upset. Don't rub yoor PMS on me, bitch, and go back to school.

Bellydancing IS Arabic. It's originally called Raqs Sharqi. Everything has an origin and this dance originated in Arabia. What do you think it is? American? Ha! That's only wishful thinking. Whether it's beautiful or not is a matter of opinion. You should get it through thick head that this is a comments section for the video and I can comment that it's crap it whenever I want to - comments doesn't necessarily have to be positive. Now enrol into school and stop bothering me, pest.
