No doubt Zeta Tau did good in this competition. They may have won the Sprite step off but in all reality with so many chapters across the country, I doubt very seriously that if the truly best of these teams were part of the competition that ZTA would have won. But they did good no doubt and at the end of the day no matter what kind of step competition corporate or otherwise, it depends on who shows up and how much work they put into it.
Stepping is part of a ritual of pledging and belonging to a Black Greek organization not to be full time steppers. It takes time and practice and money to do this, all the while maintaining the standards expected by the University. So, of course it is quite possible for a white sorority to do what Zeta Tau did. If you work hard you can win and this is part of the tradition of imitation and flattery anyway, including white imitation of black culture.
Continuing from my comment below, you can go across the country and just because the deltas crush it at one campus step show, doesn't mean that all deltas at all campuses are going to crush other sororities. It varies from campus to campus. The thing that this does bring up is that Sprite has decided to make a statement on who is "the best" step team but in reality did they REALLY get the best representatives of any of the divine nine to represent at the Sprite event? Simply put: No.
People misunderstand how step shows, fraternities and sororities work. I am not a member of a fraternity or sorority, but as a college graduate I know for a fact that the quality of a step team varies from campus to campus. And getting a "national" champion to represent a particular fraternity doesn't always work out. After all, these are students who pay their own money most times to put on these productions. And they have their own lives to deal with as well as students and individuals.

I honestly had no clue why there was so much racket upstairs--I didn't know they were practicing and I was upset at all the noise. Personally, I think they sucked... they were together though and it showed that they practiced intensively. Props for that. But the steps were so... simple. No difficulty at all. The fact that they were white and were stepping increased the applause tenfold. The crowd was screaming when they were just standing there! HOWEVER, they did do WAY better than the AKAs without a doubt. No contest! The AKAs clearly did not take the show seriously like ZTA did. So they deserved to win.

No doubt Zeta Tau did good in this competition. They may have won the Sprite step off but in all reality with so many chapters across the country, I doubt very seriously that if the truly best of these teams were part of the competition that ZTA would have won. But they did good no doubt and at the end of the day no matter what kind of step competition corporate or otherwise, it depends on who shows up and how much work they put into it.

Stepping is part of a ritual of pledging and belonging to a Black Greek organization not to be full time steppers. It takes time and practice and money to do this, all the while maintaining the standards expected by the University. So, of course it is quite possible for a white sorority to do what Zeta Tau did. If you work hard you can win and this is part of the tradition of imitation and flattery anyway, including white imitation of black culture.

Continuing from my comment below, you can go across the country and just because the deltas crush it at one campus step show, doesn't mean that all deltas at all campuses are going to crush other sororities. It varies from campus to campus. The thing that this does bring up is that Sprite has decided to make a statement on who is "the best" step team but in reality did they REALLY get the best representatives of any of the divine nine to represent at the Sprite event? Simply put: No.

People misunderstand how step shows, fraternities and sororities work. I am not a member of a fraternity or sorority, but as a college graduate I know for a fact that the quality of a step team varies from campus to campus. And getting a "national" champion to represent a particular fraternity doesn't always work out. After all, these are students who pay their own money most times to put on these productions. And they have their own lives to deal with as well as students and individuals.

I honestly had no clue why there was so much racket upstairs--I didn't know they were practicing and I was upset at all the noise. Personally, I think they sucked... they were together though and it showed that they practiced intensively. Props for that. But the steps were so... simple. No difficulty at all. The fact that they were white and were stepping increased the applause tenfold. The crowd was screaming when they were just standing there! HOWEVER, they did do WAY better than the AKAs without a doubt. No contest! The AKAs clearly did not take the show seriously like ZTA did. So they deserved to win.

People that arent greek AND people that havent stepped before would say that there show was better but it wasn't. As soon as they finished, i turned to my frat and said the AKAs won that but they r gonna give it to Zeta tau Alpha. Who in the hell has a stepshow with nongreek judges?! that's like me going into an OR and critiquing a doctors surgical technique. If you've stepped before you know what to look for. Both groups were good but when u look at technique, performance, and difficulty..AKA!!

What I find interesting is that throughout their performance the audience was showing love...screaming and yelling, clapping and even given standing ovations throughout the performance. They could not deny that this was an incredible win worthy performance. Even the announcer came out saying how "steppin is for everyone, if you can step, you can step."
it wasn't until after they WON that the audience suddenly had an issue with an all white female group winning. How LOW and PATHETIC is that
