I'm no more of a fan of AJ than I am Fox. In fact, my preferred news is BBC. LUCKILY, I have all three available to me as an American and a Vermonter, and that's the way it should be. It's not a matter of hate or politics, it's a matter of freedom and education.

The only thing I hate about Al Jazeera English is.. mainly the anchors. There's this one guy who's just.. fucking awful. He's almost half asleep. The weather comes on between programming, instead of someone saying, "And now we turn to blah blah blah for the weather.", and they don't even report on hurricanes. Their news is too short, there's no contributors where you hear from both sides.. just one guy reading a teleprompter.

Overall, it's the CNN of the Arabs.

I will bet you that 97% of the people who believe this network is nothing but propaganda has NEVER even tuned in for one moment. It has a name that is Middle Eastern that's all. Aside from anything else, it's really funny that in the United States any criticism of Israel is passionately attacked and immediately and effectively suppressed from anything but the marginalized "radical" fringes of discussion, but in Israel it is just an accepted part of ordinary life. Not only would they never ban Al Jazeera in Israel, but if it weren't available the public would demand it!

The paranoid extremism about the slightest criticism of Israel in the US is an amazing phenomenon.

Freedom of speech should work both ways otherwise your undercutting your basic argument. If I like Al Jazeera English and someone likes FOX News I should not be allowed to ban it because it's not my preference I merely switch the channel.

The real crux of the matter is that in Burlington as in else where there exists a relatively small number of hardline right wingers who wish to impose their will on the rest of society and determine what people can and cannot watch on their television screens. This flies in the face of logic as well as the whole concept of media diversity. Those who consider Al Jazeera to be propaganda are welcome to watch something else.
