Thank you all for your positive comments on keeping this horrible predator in jail. Had he served the sentence he should have received for first, second or even third kidnapping/rape, our beloved Shannon would be alive today. Please do continue to sign the petition so he will never be let out of jail to hurt another victim and their family again.

Such a beautiful girl with a wonderful loving family. I have just watched a documentary and feel frustrated at the mistakes made in the initial investigation and subsequent sentencing, life should mean life!

I was the victim of a serious sexual crime age 18 though i am lucky to be here it has affected my life since. This is why i feel so strongly that the courts need to start putting these men away for life. This should NEVER have happened to this sweet girl. Just signed the petition.

I was 12 when this happened. I remember riding past her sorority and seeing the sign. Such a tragic death. Rest in sweet peace Shannon.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Melendi, I don't know if you still read the comments here, but I think you two are both wonderful, strong people. I've lost two brothers and I know how hard it is--especially when a close family suffers the loss...it just never ends. But I do not have to live knowing someone murdered my brothers. I can't imagine the added suffering. I knew Tracy Paules who was murdered at UF...I remember the same look on George and Rickys faces...destroyed is an understatement. God Bless You!

I never met the family but I lived on 98Ave and 48 Street for 40 years. They renamed our street after Shannon. And I now moved about 3 yrs but my friends in Miami sent me the petition and I emailed it already but I printed it also and will be getting signatures. She is remembered in our hearts because she was part of our Southwest family. Never Forgotten

All though I was only 7 at the time of this tragedy, I am still bothered and touched by it. :( Born in Decatur, raised in Stone Mountain 20 years of my 23 year life I have never heard of such a horrific incident. I did not even know about this until now. I am watching Forensic Files on truTV @ 2:47 cnt in Little Rock. Great work on the video and may God bless ALL of the Melendi family. My heart and prayers are with you all!

I never personally met Shannon, but I went to her rival school (Coral Park) and had friends and family who knew her well. I was in Marines when I learned of the tragedy, remember the masses of people who made efforts in trying to find her. The story is still so vivid in my mind bringing me tears even today as I watch the video. God bless your family and strength. Thanks for sharing!

Mr. Melendi is also one of my neighbors in the Keys and every time I pass his house when I take out my boat I say a prayer for him and his family.

I've never met Shannon, but do know her father. Mr. Melendi took my daughter's Quince pictures and spoke to us about Shannon. He obviously still has her very close to his heart. I personally have two daughters and dont know how I would handled what the Melendis have gone through. Mr. Melendi seems like a very strong man and I guess by always talking about Shannon helps him cope with his loss.

I went to Southwest a few years before her, and was attending FSU at the time of her murder. Although I didn't know Shannon personally, her murder still caused me great sadness. I always

felt I knew her somehow, it's a shame that such a beautiful life was cut short by a selfish monster. I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing these wonderful memories.
