  • The ps3 exploded shortly after this video.

  • Hey, mine is the vice versa. Mine says 220-240 V

So will it work in USA, under the 120 V Supply?

  • Ofcourse it will would work, it mostly does work with expensive equipment like computers and laptops, but also cellphones.

  • PS3 from USA with written 120v and 3a, works fine with 250v, 10a cable !!

  • is this for real? I just moved to the Netherlands from USA. I have the 80g ps3 that has the exact same label as this video, and is it for sure that I can plug this ps3 directly into the 220v outlet? Can I use any European computer plug? Do I need to buy a special european ps3 cable for it?

  • would it work with the slim model? the rating is 120 V 2.1 A

  • US PS3 Slim 120V 2.1A 60Hz works in Slovenia, which have 220V voltage!

  • @MrMicho1988 For everyone... there are no PS3s that do not play in Europe. All PS3s have a MAX above 220.

  • i ordered a 3 in 1 console from america it runs on 110 volts so will i need a inverter or converter to work in the uk

  • if you got the new machines check the model - there is a new model cech2101 - there is no confirmation that this one is dual voltage

  • Does it work on the PS3 Slim??? PLZZ I NEED HELP

  • is it an 80 gb model?

  • I heard that universal power supply in the PS3 was only for Japanese PS3's and 60GB PS3's, no other version has Universal power supply it seems to Sony, but Sony has horrible customer support, so I don't trust them. So do I need like a voltage converter? Also, I heard that HDTV's in Europe are PAL but can also work with NTSC, but I heard that SDTV's don't support NTSC in Europe, my family has SDTV in Germany. So when I go to Germany with my USA PS3, will it work?

  • I've heard that newer SDTVs has NTSC support... But Im not so sure

  • i want that cable so bad

  • but do the games that you buy from europe work on an US ps3? pls answer me! I'm thinking of buying one form the USA and I live in europe and I want to know if I have to buy all the games from USA or can I buy them for europe

  • Yes, since PS3 games are in Blu-Ray Disc, Blu-Ray Disc is region-free. So it will work for sure.

  • I just moved to Europe from Canada and I brought over my PS3 that I bought there. I just bought GT5P here and it works just fine on the system.

  • Hi, i just bought ps3 ( model : CECHP01 ) 160 Gb in Canada, Can you pls tell me if you have the same model and if it will work in europe ?

    Thanks.

  • All PS3s from all around the world are the same. It will work.

  • @7raczyk I have the second generation PS3. I got it from the US, where the voltage is 110. Now im in Asia, where its 220. So ure saying I dont need a voltage converter? Its just been lying around forever and I CAN plug it in directly?

  • um no

  • @Davidlovesmac You're a macboy fan, what would you ever know.

  • @7raczyk i dont know considering i go to italy ever year of my life since i was 1 and i have 60 gb PS# and considering i bring it there every year and i play....would you also like to know the exact degrees of my location in italy?

  • Auto switching power supply. For $30 more it's well worth the investment.

  • ROFL! OMG, I almost shit my pants....hahaha.

  • guys, an important question:

I have a european PS3, right now I'm living in the United States so I was wondering what should I do if I want to bring my PS3 here.

Pls let me know!!! Thanks :)

  • Hi

have you tried your european PS3 in united states?

    please let me know

    thanks

  • Hi

I did not try yet my Euro PS3 here in States because I'm looking out for info about if it is going to work or not...

  • Of corse it works. 100-240v 50/60 acceptacne on consoles, cos they no dum ppl plug them into different voltage.

  • Hey Guys,

I have a US PS3 and I am in Africa.. with a 220v, I have a transformer with a 750 V.A.I. I have been trying hard to know what a V.A.I power factor is compared to watts, the best I could find out was of 310 watts pure guess work and no reliability... my ps3 manual mentions approx 280 watts power consumption and

  • I have heard that PS3 is dual voltage but I couldn't find any reliable source, I don't want to blow my PS3... if someone can please let me know the max watt usage of a PS3 and is it 280 watts as mentioned in the user manual and what is a 750 V.A.I power factor compared to watts for a transformer... what is the equation... Thank you so much for the help been trying real hard to find a solution... Thanks.

  • This is 100% REAL. Just brought my 80 GB CECHL01 (made in China) from the US (the sticker says 110V only) to Europe and after watching this clip I plugged the PC cord in it and it works just fine!

Thanks FP02 for saving me 50$ (or more) for a converter! Cheers mate!

  • hey hugbear1976, so can i directly plug in the cord which is given by sony along with my console to the power socket and play. mine is very recent model, my adaptor says it can have upto 10 Amps and 125V, can i use the same adaptor where my power input from my socket will be 240V. help me out.

  • If someone is still here... Does this work with 40GB versions? Namely Japanese 40GB Ceramic White... Thank you.

  • hey i have a quick question, i have a ps3 from us, and now im in germany, so i can change the voltage?

because as of right now im using a transfomer???????

if u can, do you break the warranty seal?

    thanks

  • no you just plug it in. I plugged in my US ps3 it was a US CECHE 80gb model into a 240 voltage pluge, and it worked fine. the PS3 HAS a universal voltage PSU.

  • Hi sir i am living in India can i able to use the same trick as yours our voltage in

    230v60hz i have a ps3 from usa

  • I think I lot of people have this problem going from us to europe, so now that I have the answer, anyone know a good place to buy a european kettle cord in Paris, France or online with cheap shipping?

  • thxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • The American PS3' power supply looks something like this:

    _____________

    | | | |

    | | |

    --------------

In other words, you can't use a PS2/PSX cable on the PS3.

If you're TV can't handle a NTSC signal, your PS3 will not display a colored image when using an AV cable. I expect a HDMI cable to give similar results.

If you're TV can handle a NTSC signal, it should look the exact same as what a PS3 from your region should look like.

If anyone has any questions, just ask

  • @Talicus

"Dutch Kettle Lead" does this also mean you plugged your PS3 directly to a Dutch main socket of 230V? and if so is your PS3 still working fine?

  • That is correct.

  • Yeah,i had that problem when i brought my ps2 to Serbia and it had no color...I am getting a ps3 from America and i hope that I wont have the same problem , because When I play Resident Evil 4 on my ps2 I set the image to NTSC and it works just fine,so I think that my tv supports it(I have an SDTV...FUCKBALLS!!!),

P.S. Will this work in my country , we also have 220 v electricity ?

  • No the ps3 has pal and ntsc on it its regionfree hence..

so you can also choose i believe the region on your os.

Mine worked perfectly even without hdmi

  • Not only can it handle several voltages, but connecting a cable which says a high amount of amps is no problem either.

The 80 GB uses 3.2 amps, but when you connect a cable which can handle 10 amps on it, it will still only use 3.2 amps. The cable says 10 amps on it, because it has a fuse in it that will burn out if there's more than 10 amps going through. The PS3 will only ask for 3.2 amps though, so it will only get 3.2 amps.

(the power cable supplied with my US PS3 can go up to 10 amps too)

  • My Metal Gear Solid 4 80 GB Bundle has arrived, here are my experiences:

De PS3 can handle more voltages than it says on the box. For instance, my US PS3 (which says should use 120V) it connected to a Dutch Kettle Lead (the kind of cable used to power PC's etc). It says 250V/10A on the cable, but I think it should only use 240 because that's what comes out of te socket.

I don't know why the cable says 250V, maybe it's the maximum voltage it can handle or something, but my PS3 is fine.

    (more ^)

  • hi,

is your PS3 still working fine without any voltage problem?

  • I've run it for a few days and I've not encountered any problems yet.

  • hey guys i just bought the Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle form the US and im living here in Asia we are using 220v so its safe to just plug it in directly right using the supplied power cord by sony

  • Probably, read description of my setup above

  • Really?!you pluged the ac cord that says 125v on it directly in 220v and your ps3's still working fine? i've been told that i must use a ac cord that says 250v on it...

  • Sorry, forgot to say that I replaced the AC lead with a 250volt (10amp) version. (British plugs always have a fuse in them.)

  • So is thre an official word that the CECHE01MG (80GB) Model 100% works on 220V?

Or does this specific Model need's a power adapter?

  • Just buy a kettle lead or PC lead and use that. It is dual-voltage, but Sony don't say much about it because they would rather you buy the local PS3 which they make more money from. I've got the USA 80GB MGS4 package (made in May 2008) and it works fine in the UK. Also make sure the fuse in the plug (if your country uses them) is a 5amp fuse.

  • does this work on the current 40gb PS3s comming out of America?

  • is it the 20Gb version

  • if u check pae 8 of your ps3 safety and support manual it reads 'do not connect the AC power cord to a voltage transformer or inverter. It may cause burns or a malfunction'..

anyways just got mine US ps3 and i live in a 220/240 volt region too. bought a 5 amp kettle plug and it works fine plugged in directly into the main..

    trust me..lol..

  • I have a US PS3 80GB(CECHE01) and I live in 220v region. I tripple checked and on every manual and detailed specs I encounterd it says 120v ONLY.

I'm using a stepdown and it's working fine. It'd be nice not needing the stepdown converter...

Is it worth taking a chance and plug it to 220v?

How can I know for sure that my console is dual voltage too?

  • Just buy a kettle lead or PC lead and use that. It is dual-voltage, but Sony don't say much about it because they would rather you buy the local PS3 which they make more money from. I've got the USA 80GB MGS4 package (made in May 2008) and it works fine in the UK. Also make sure the fuse in the plug (if your country uses them) is a 5amp fuse.

  • does the ps3 40gb " US version " has a multi volatage power supply too ?

  • what store did u get the ps3 from?

  • would it be the same for the 40gb version?!

  • Voltage converter? The ps3 power supply in multi volatage, hence can take any voltage between 100 to 240V on a 50 or 60Hz power grid. U can buy one from the US 110V bring it to australia, buy a new IEC cable that plugs into a AUS socket and play it straight off. The PSU takes up a bit of space in the ps3 hence u would think it is a converter itself...

  • Have used this for over a year now...hours on end, and no issues...

  • @FP02Productions I bought a PS3 in USA will it work in New Zealand? I already Have a Transformer that converts.

  • @FP02Productions I bought a PS3 in USA will it work in New Zealand. I already bought a transformer to converts volts.

  • I do not plug the PS3 into any travel/power converter...In fact, I simply plugged a European computer cable into the PS3, works fine! I originally tried using the supplied US plug and a plug adapter, but with this method you could almost feel the electricity coming off the PS3...

It is plugged into a European Monster Cable Power Strip (thing cost close to 200 euro, but DOES NOT CONVERT power, only handles power spikes, surges, etc...keeps a constant voltage...

  • do you know if it is the same for the 40gb models?

  • Hi!

I live in UK but I bought a PS3 from Taiwan, where the voltage is 110V. So I don't need a transformer either, right?

    Thank you!

  • Hi!

I live in UK but I

  • this is nice...did someone try to play couple of hours? was it working fine then?

and a question: does the new 80GB version work too?

  • YEs is works to i have the 880gb version and I've played it for hours with no problems

  • Sry touble tapped the "8" but in meant the 80gb version

  • so do u need to change the US power plug into a local power plug? Dont seem like ur using the same power plug thats is being supplied with a US ps3

  • i dont have a HD tv will a PS3 still work usging normal Red, yellow White sockets?

  • Yes, it has a RCA System too.

  • just plug it in u fik bitch

  • heuasheuasheuahs LOL

  • Hi there, I'm from Australia and I recently imported a japanese ps3. I had a look at your video, but I still have some questions. The Australian power supply is 240V, and on the back of the ps3(jp) is 100V~3.8A 50/60hz - Will I need a transformer to be able to play my ps3, or can I just switch the power cable, or just simply use a power adapter? Thanks.

  • What IDIOT posts a video of him plugging in and turning on a PS3!!! BOO TO THIS VIDEO, BOO I SAY! C'est MERDE!!!

  • ur the idiot he showing you that it works multi voltage even if it written on it 120 V

  • hahaha, he is the master newbie.

  • lol bloody french

  • I live in holland and my US PS3 got roasted after a few minutes :(

  • have you just switched the power cable with one for a ps, or did you use the power converter? i live in belgium and got a us ps3, i haven't plugged it in yet to test it

  • dude, i live in the UK and i can't wait till march.

I ve thought about buying 1 from japan, but i don't think its worth the hassel. ill just wait and pre order a PAL version, do u know u can't play European DVDs.

  • yeah, no problem though, i have a euro player here too importing most of my Blu-Ray and PS3 games from the US anyway because moving back in 1.5 years in the UK, id wait for it to release, i only had to wait until december in the US until stores were fully stocked after a november 17 release, plus, no christmas season for the euro release

  • I agree but theres no worries if u do get 1 from some were else there all region free anywho :) patience is a vertue yeh
