Shouldn't do much harm, but what I like to do is, when taking off my strings, taking off a low end string (i.e. low E) then a high end string (i.e. high e). This keeps the tension even on the neck throughout the process. Do the same with putting strings on: put on a low end then a high end. I read it on a video comment once. Made sense so I've used that technique to ensure I don't mess up the neck. Hope this helps.
I started using your stringing method over a year ago. I can't thank you enough.
It's uncanny how well my guitar keeps in tune. ..even with new strings.
I change my strings every three weeks or so and this method is now what I recommend to all. The stringing is easy and the tuning dependable. Sometimes I think it's my ear as the strings couldn't possibly keep in tune for as long as they do after some intense playing...I take out my tuner and !!!!.....still in tune!!!.
helpful. my strings were going out of tune faster than a 5th grade trombone player and its time to change em' so i was looking for little tricks. this seemed to do the job!
What about the G, B and E strings? Shouldn't they wrap around the post at least three times? It seems with this method the strings are not securely fastened to the post.
@Maestr07th I leave double the amount for the plains But you only need 1-2 for the E and A as there's so much friction there and less problems in tuning more mass. I'm cutting back the wraps and have found much more satisfaction this way. I find the 'Z' tuning much more neater and quicker than this as well. Its cool though, whatever works for you.
I've been told so many times how to do this, but this really worked and the string is really tight, sounds beautiful. I feel better about myself now that i can string this baby up.
it took me a while but i found out that i wasnt going AROUND the peg. thats y i couldnt get it to work out right, i got all my strings set up correctly now though
I had some problems with the bridge of my Guitar and I had to get a new one. They sent me the part and i obviously had to remove all of the strings at once and now when i try the low e string all it does is buzz. should I go to a music store and get it repaired or is there away I can adjust this my self
hey, this is a bit different but, how do i prevent my strings to be rusty?! my new strings only last 1 or 2 months and then its already rusty. is it because of my sweaty palms? please help me!!!!!!!!!!
This is quite a common problem, caused by the materials in strings (phosphor/bronze etc)reacting with the chemical make-up of your perspiration.
Try (a) different string compounds e.g., nickel silver, bronze, phosphor bronze, EXP coated etc and (b) wiping your strings at the conclusion of your practice session.
This is GREAT!! I just used this to change strings on an acoustic guitar, first time ever, and got it right! Thanks so much for posting this instructional video!
Absolutely wonderful instruction video. You are a great teacher. Thanks very much for making the video and sharing it. It helped me and, presumably, many other people a lot.
Man I have been changing strings for years and I really appreciate your excellent video on this. I just strung up my guitar and it sounds beautiful.....Thanks
Awesome video; thank you for the extra attention and close-ups on locking the string! I've been playing - a very long time; without ever knowing how to restring correctly. Thanks!
i have a problem keeping the pegs in when i tighten the strings!! a lot of my mates have the same problem, putting pressure on the peg usually doesnt help as it just keeps popping out, is there a certain technique to holding the peg in whilst you tighten the strig, anyone please help :D
The one thing I always get wrong is slack man. I don't know what the problem is but every time I've tried to string my guitar in the past, the strings always end up being so tight that the strings actually rise up from the fretboard. If I string it the improper way, ya know just putting the string all the way through and winding, the tension and all that is fine. o_O So yeah..I don't know what my problem is.
Yes! I did it! I changed the strings all by myself! I fucked up on the B string and had to buy another set of strings! I wish I saw this video before I tried it the first time watching some other horrible tutorial.
Thank you so much! This is a great video with nice, detailed close-ups. It used to take me forever to change my guitar strings. ...Winding and winding, the string slipping, etc. Now I can change strings quickly, and I don't have to panic when my strings break. Thanks again. :)
thank you very much this is the only vidio that i knew how to do it good job god bless you

no u wont
MetalCore63 2 years ago
its best u change the strings one at a time, remove one string, change it, the repeat with the other strings
MetalCore63 2 years ago
@littlealien123 yea when u re sting...You will want to just take off on string at a time and then re string that one... and so on.
whammybar98 2 years ago
@littlealien123 not if u change your strings right away
sepultribe666 2 years ago
@littlealien123 only if your guitar is floyd rose type

will the string ever snap when you are winding it please reply thank you
efee52 2 years ago
it can
BenIsAMofosexual 2 years ago
@efee52 don't think so, because you left those 3 fingers of extra space. It could snap when you wind it TOO much. But that hardly ever happens.

With the G, B and E strings you just leave more slack before winding. Common sense really.
Great video.
MichaelsBonesUK 2 years ago
I know about leaving more slack for the G, B and E strings. I would of liked to have seen him replace one of these on the video.

Really appreciate the articulate explanation and close ups. The 'why' of each step helps with the understanding.
I now have the confidence to try more alternate tunings, bends etc. No worry about breaking a string and wondering if I can replace it correctly.
A big thanks from Canada.
