i get spooked by the height & openness of the rooftop..hehe always remembered Shirl "jumping off" they look so close to edge and when Bongo stands atop his amp in bloody diving flippers he looks like he could fall off the edge! great clip..from a legendary band Oh how Melbourne has changed ..for the worst..architecturally
@newellgirl Melbourne has changed for the worse in many other ways. I would never live there. But yeah, great band. I know a guy who ran the Bombay Rock in the 70's and 80's. He is a character. Met a lot of bands. Said Guddinski ripped the "flying Chooks" off but then I dunno...
Skyhooks, the thinking man's Oz glam/boogie/punk/new wave band...
Excellent! I heard the famous Fred Strauks cowbell in there ... I really liked hearing the cowbell as not too many drummers seemed to use it back then? This was the new stuff that came out after they returned from the US if I remember correctly ... really good stuff ... strong rhythm and great guitar interplay ... I recall there was another single around about that time ... "Somewhere In Sydney"? That too was fantastic. I've still got my 5 'Hooks scrappies will never throw them out!
@trampismat Jack Kreemers of Madder Lake used the cowbell to great effect too. This was part of The Brats Are Back tour when they returned from the U.S. I saw the them at the Horden on their Sydney leg.
@swanstoon I had Madder Lakes greatest hits CD and it was stolen along with all my other music. I miss their music. Would be nice 2 C more up here. Slack Alice is ne track someone should upload... ;-P
I was a big fan of the hooks but I was disapoointed when this came out as I thought it was step down. I like it a lot more now even though it's more style over substance. There;s lot going on musically but the song itself is very child-like basic. Still it's a kickass rock song. Thumbs up!
So GOOD to see this again. I have REAL trouble watching old Hooks vids now when Shirl was young. Since losing him, i get real emotional. He was a cousin of mine so it makes it doubly hard!
I can remember going to the "Brats are Back" concert, @ the Princess theatre in Melbourne.
Because in this song Greg wrote about "Mars bars...& roadside tips"...well the company that produced this chocolate bar, gave away one-free-bar to everyone who attended on the night.... but i went back a 3rd time and held hands out.
Great to see this clip again, and how, as sherbetgirl said, looks a whole lot different thesedays.
LOL @2.50Min see the old Gas and Fuel Corp building
I was 6 years old when this came out. My first memory of redevelopment of Melb would have been the Concert hall and the demolition of the Allens building where Southbank is.
Only the good ones
