can I pour polyester resin into a urethane mold? I want to cast a acrylic paint tinted resin cherry shape from a urethane mold I was given. Also, in the video, you say it needs mold release. and that it does not easily accept painting. can I was it off? Thanks.
@malveytj Polyester can be cast in a urethane mold. TAP carries a paintable mold release called Stoner Rocket Release. Most other releases do not wash off.
@SuperWomanNeli The answer is a qualified yes. If the original is clean metal, and a proper mold release is used, there should be no problem. However, patina, paint, or other coatings could be affected by the mold material. Therefore, it is always appropriate to test a small area first.
I don't understand why I wouldn't be able to paint the object I cast. Let's say I cast a resin model from a urethane mold. I understand that I'd have to put mold release in the mold before pouring in the resin so that it can be removed later, but why can't i just wipe it off after i pull it out of the mold?
@maikeru01 Silicone mold release does not wipe off clean enough. There will still be a thin film left. Since silicone is not water soluble, it does not wash off easily either. Therefore, it is best to use a paintable mold release such as Rocket Release, available at our website.
@brennensk8s yes but making the core of a wheel is dangerous to whoever may ride them. If a core falls out the rider can eat it hard. Its not a good idea to make your own wheels
are you selling this product in argentina, we need it to make molds of cultured stone and which material is better to do it, silicon or urethane? thanks.
@martidelchola2 We can ship world wide from our website. Both urethane and silicone will work. Each has its advantages. Silicone required no mold release, but is more costly. Urethane is less costly, and very tough, which might be good for your application.
Can I use a "negative" urethane mold to create a "positive" silicone mold? And can I cast polyester resin pieces in urethane molds? Thanks in advance!
Silicone and Urethane are very different. Silicone has the advantage of not requiring a mold release. Urethane has the advantage of being very tough, a simple one-to-one mix ratio, and easy bubble release.
Can I use regular silicon ?

@jordon907 Our Silicone RTV and our Platinum Silicone are also great mold making materials.

Can I use this to make molds of something metal? Without it damaging my metal original?

how can you make the hardness (durometer) change from high to low like in skateboard/longboard wheels?
seminalvesical1 11 months ago
@seminalvesical1 Changing the hardness of a manufactured material is something we haven’t tried, if you come across some way let us know.

whats the chemical composition of both sides?

could this process somehow be used to make skateboard wheels?
brennensk8s 2 years ago
Yes, if you can find the right casting material for the wheels.
tapplastics 2 years ago
yeah, but you'd need to make a 2-part .old,

Is the finished urethane mold flexible at all or is it pretty much rigid?
fusionchick 2 years ago
@fusionchick The urethane is flexible, similar to the hardness of the caulk used for sinks and showers.

can this be used to create a mold for a sculpey piece?
julzabro 2 years ago
Sculpy is the consistency of clay. If you can press it into the mold and fill all the crevices, then it should work.

With a little practice it changes from complicated to fun.
