As a Video Game commentator, I can't help but laugh my ass off. Video Games kill people? No, people who want to find a reason for why murders happen, and the mentality behind it, assign Video Games to murder. If games beget murder, and desensitizes people to murder, than this applies to movies, books, or even the countless History lessons we hear about? I know it comes in a different light, but still murder and violence are portrayed
No, Video Games don't commit murder, sick people do.
To those who make the contention that the Red Cross have better things to do, keep in mind that they are charged to promote the upholding of international laws, having no actual prosecutorial powers, promoting a pro-adherence element in the popular culture is one of the best way for the Red Cross to pursuit this aspect of their mission.
I'm not surprised that the NMA people completely misrepresent the facts. Red Cross right now is simply having an internal discussion on whether to reach out and ask video game makers to consider maybe including more realistic elements of modern warfare in allegedly realistic modern warfare games.
I'm not surprised, as the Red Cross is run by a bunch of Self-Righteous Communists! The Goddamned Leftists always stroke each other off on ruining the fun of others!
On the flip side, these types would howl in indignation if bathhouses were similarly assailed. Of course, the notion of "live and let live" is foreign to compulsive tormentors.
The Red Cross needs to pull it's head out of it's ass. Just like novels, tv and movies, video games are fiction. The characters in them aren't real people.
I think the Red Cross has more important things to worry about than video games. Are video games reality, I see it as an alternative to reality. Believe it, there would be more than 19 games that have violated the geneva convention
I hope the red cross realizes virtuality and reality are completely separate things and you can't be charged for a crime that didn't happen in reality
@jiggaboo904 Bullshit. We play violent video games because violence is in our nature. We've had violence since the dawn of time and video games didn't cause it.
if you ask me this is misdirection on the part of the red cross, who are distracting us from the fact that they are in the pocket of rich countries that create the real humanitarian crises in the world, in places like africa.
Well, good luck arresting 600 million people. And you are dreaming if you think I'm giving up my video games because you think I'm commiting war crimes. I'll be throwing a turtle shell at your car before that happens.
There's a FAQ on the ICRC's website (icrc.org) on what is true and what's been overblown. I work for the American Red Cross (a separate org from ICRC) and I've been surprised by how much of this story is influenced by hype and dramatic headlines.
@whitewinged All news is hyped. They don't stop with pretending that normal storms are hurricanes during the weather segment. Every story gets that treatment because it's the only way to keep people watching.
@maninredhelm yeah, I guess it's no surprise, but still dissapointing! On another note, I found it much more interesting to read the discussions on this topic on slashdot and some gaming blogs.
@UItro agreed lets assume people imitate games we would have the greatest military force ever. A army of people who grew up being master cheif or one of the various call of suty charecters led by a command and conquer player with resource management handled by a fallout player. The world will not fall.
@SnoweyMan111 I didn't say it was good or bad, I said that in relation to your comment about it being against the Red Cross, which by the way they have in Korea.
Recent research actually shows violent video games increasing aggression even in those who never act on their violence. So really its more like violent video games tend to lead more to rage, the Red Cross is overreacting. And there's no way I'm going to pull my support for an aid organization just over video games.
we can't even have red health crosses in games thanks to them. even in 3d movie maker, the amblience has something resembling the konami logo instead of the red cross
