What if an instructor shows passive aggressive tendencies? The being silent and "you're right and I'm wrong" approach has been working okay for me. Just doesn't make me feel any better about the situation. Thankfully I have taken the last class required with such a person.

Hi Mark, in Colorado they are the same thing. The term is used interchangeably.
