  • 1/7 the buttons for a solution with 1/7 the overall features and flexibility.

Quite appropriate really: choose a boat load of features and huge flexibilty for an overall more powerful piece of software with a slightly longer learning curve (WMC), or go with a simple to use barebones setup that allows for basic media consumption and nothing more(Front-Row).

Using the WMC remote for Front-Row would be clunky, just like using the Apple remote for WMC would be horrible.

  • Fucking egghead retards can't press buttons.

  • Apple should introduce a keyboard with only 8 keys.

  • The soul of Apple.

  • Holy crap... where are Steve's blue jeans?

  • R.I.P.

  • 12 people use windows

  • @schm147 i do indeed, and i play full hd games on 6 monitors with 60 fps...

  • @MrTorrHumor so articulate... well said.

  • @MrTorrHumor What?

  • Well, I own 4 Apple remotes and countless Microsoft MCE remotes. The Microsoft remotes are definitely better-suited to watching TV. Still, it's irritating that there's no dedicated buttons for aspect and captions.

  • only things really different are size, and with that comes the fact that you lose it more easily.

  • I just got one for free 2day n idk if it works or not can anybody help me

  • I think Wii joystick. better than this.coz you must move around.

But This iRemote make more Fatmerica.

Sorry ifan. This 's a joke product right?

  • how do i connect this remote to my computer?

  • Why is Jobs dumb enough to assume people want less buttons? That just means you get a less efficient remote because you have to press more buttons to do the same thing that a normal remote can do with one button press.

  • @yuppyguitar1 idiot.

  • Good luck using a tv with 6 buttons

  • I'd rather have the Windows ones with the ability to do what I want. Sorry that I'm not simpleton that can only handle a few buttons without my brain exploding

  • Since when is less buttons better? Idiot

  • More buttons=more features! I am a real apple fanboy but this is no comprising. I bought an apple remote (the new aluminum one yesterday because if I don't have wifi I can still control my Mac but that's all there is to it!

  • wtf are they cheering at obviously the others do shitloads more

  • Maybe someday apple well make a remote that was no buttons and screen, how does it works, I don't know.

  • @Wesley95501 It's called the Remote app on the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch doesn't use any "buttons" at least ;-)

  • @cargoplex haha as soon as i read that i knew that was coming!

  • U need a mallet to control a PC. All u need for a Mac is a twig. :D

  • Simplicity. Love it!!

  • since macs have no tv cards even 6 buttons is to much

  • @kalosanin This remote can even control a whole tv mostly if you think of some shortcuts like holding down the play button to close it, pressing any button to open it, going through channels by the rewind/fast forward buttons, etc.

  • @drrobertoboogie97 yes but programing, rec, Chanel direct, tel-text, zoom, guide, mute,ch list, pre ch,fav ch,p.size, srs on,off, subs, and so on how do you do it with 6 buttons ?

  • @kalosanin you don't really need some of them in a tv, and you can do the others by holding down buttons, pressing more than one button, etc..

  • @kalosanin actually hardware comes with the software. the software is designed to not need so much hard buttons.

  • apple should make a tv then

  • @HelloNewYorkCity *cough* apple have a TV. :L

  • Maybe in the future, airplanes will only have 5 buttons and a clicking wheel for lift off and landing, on the cockpit...

  • 6 buttons 6 mac models 6 portable media devices 666 the devils code WTF

  • gateway still makes computers?

  • overpricing products with little functions

  • apple rules!!!!! I GOT 56 BUTTONS ON MY LCD'S REMOTE AND I USE THE POWER AND VOLUME!!

  • Apple: You only need half a brain stem to use our products.

  • I lose that God damn mac remote all the time!

  • The Microsoft remotes are way to complicated, the Apple remote costs too much and doesn't do anything... for my Apple TV, I love the Apple Remote iPhone app, and for the rest of my home media I love the Logitech Harmony remote.

  • @johnblack627 Apple remote costs too much? It costs less than $20 for a new one, wtf are you talking about? Go to any RadioShack store and you will see that universal remotes usually cost over $70 bucks.

  • @bathellfire A universal remote is "universal," and actually does something.

  • hate the laugh between what he says, though i'm a bit of an "apple fan" :D

  • this made me go to the store and buy one then use the bathroom

  • it's a device simplified.

Totally owned PC media center remotes!

  • theres no point in the number buttons for a DVD player remote!!!

  • anybody wana fill the middleground. i dont like overcomplexity but i like free will. i'd like to be able to uninstall itunes on my pc without problems that would be nice. is that too much to ask for from apple?

  • EPIC FAIL!!!! on the other remotes.

  • Lol

  • what more can that brick of yours do? record? apple remote does not need to record it can download...

  • The mouse and keyboard are fine by me.

  • haha. remotes. hahahahaha.

  • and remember - always when presenting a new product: Make sure to bring your fanboys to cheer for you....

  • Don't forget the internet trolls. What would a successful product/company be without biased haters?

  • I have to say, this is one thing Apple has made that seems completely uneccesary... Media Centers need those buttons to do their multiple functions, while the Apple remote is stripped down...

Im afraid I wouldnt ever buy something that required one of those.

  • have you ever actually used an apple computer with that remote? it's amazing!

  • i am a mac user, but this could be interpreted as "you're paying more for less"

  • haha yeah 20 bucks is way too much. When it just came out all new mac's had one but now you gotta pay for them!

  • if you mean less trouble then you're surely right!

  • Oh for heaven's sake Steve, find something else to complain about.

The Media Center remotes aren't just for music, movies and photos; they also are made for TV, PVR and recording functionality as well. I'd like to see someone try and use this little six button remote with a TV...they're comparisons are moot.

I mean, with this logic, he should attack TV manufacturers too, telling them to 'tone their remote designs' down, that they're just embarrassing themselves and wasting their time.

  • Apple rules!

  • steve, why u have all the idea that other couldn't think of..

  • Ahhhh, ignorance is bliss, isn't it?

  • You obviously have never owned a mac thats why I know your arguments have no ground to piss on

  • Comment removed

  • I can tell you haven't extensively used a mac recently (within 2 years) and if you have then I'm sad you weren't able to use it to its potential. (btw i like Microsoft to I'm just saying macs do have features... they're just different)

  • Says the man who typed 'Steve Jobs' or 'Apple' into the search field...

  • "Mac" only has how many buttons? 8 he said?

First thing it has 6 button. And, its not for media center like MS. Its for Apple TV and to listen music and view digital content, Play DVD and lot more..

Its just clear that you have no idea about macs..

  • Comment removed

  • Microsoft doesn't have any buttons...it's a company.

As for how many buttons are on Media Center remotes, it's poor design. I broke it down once and found that over half the buttons on my friend's remote were superfluous. There are a couple more features, but mostly it's a complete waste.

Also, you've apparently never used a Mac...ever...and are simply pulling things out of your ass to justify buying a PC and an MCE remote. Why did you even come to this video?

  • I love the way he says "OVER 40!" hahahahaha =))

    So long . . .

  • A german flame war? Never saw that coming.

  • Hahahahhaa XD

  • @cargoplex used google translate?

  • @jvanSAMSUNG das geht ist ja apple

  • i love apple  using one right now

  • yeah  great job steve jobs

  • 

  • Apple Rocks.

  • Steve Jobs sounds like Otacon.

    Like EXACTLY like Otacon.

  • 

  • _

  • mac has more features then windows will ever have.

  • No, it doesn't. If you understood Apple you'd know it was all about superior interface design. You can get more done faster on the Apple TV interface with 6 buttons than you can do on something that requires 40.

My Tivo/DirecTV requires so many button presses and so many different buttons to accomplish what I want to do, thanks to inefficient and poorly thought out menus and features.

  • Yeah, functions like, subtitle, language, coffee, etc. Who need that?

Another really cool thing with the Apple remote is if you have a IR sensor on your light, especially if it is broken. My friend have that, and for about a month we were wondering why the light always shut off. Hahaha!

  • 

  • the reason the remotes need to be big is because there are so many buttons to do so many different functionality's Merry Christmas!

  • 

  • å testing my logo..

  • crap..i failed

  • 

  • you can do 36 less things and less than 6 things as efficiently as using the media center remote. apple is too minimalist for its own good in my opinion.

  • while i do agree mostly, if you've used the remote before, you'd find that it does what it needs to for the most part. though i personally never find a good opportunity to use a remote for a computer ever.

  •  FOUND A NEW TOY!

  • THE HP ONE ACTUALLY HAS 46,

  • 

  • what is that symbol?

    F8

    FF

    What does it mean?

  • its the apple logo...

    APPLE PRIDE lol

Love the remote although the only thing I use it for is for my laptop's security alarm system (iAlertu)

  • To be fair, Media Center has more, but again, it depends on the hardware that Microsoft can't supply you. Plus, Apple's trying to kill TV with the internet.

  • In the war of computing,

    Simplicity is the best weapon

  • How did you get that apple thing? Is it a special key on your keyboard?

  • Option+Shift+K

  • On my keyboard its alt-a. 

  • I use my remote everyday! wonderful thing, especially when I play song in itunes and dont wanna open it. easy as hell just to press "next" on the remote!

  • The remote that came with my iMac is something that impresses most people who see my iMac for the first time, they cant believe what it does and with so few buttons. Just goes to show you dont need a extreme standard remote to do the most basic of things.

  • I agree, I love the Apple remote that came with my Macbook Pro!

  • too bad the new ones don't come with it.

  • yeah, I do think it's kind of lame that they don't include a remote w/ the portables anymore.
