  • Good advice. You guys should also check out my channel and videos. I make videos from a student perspective to answer questions and give advice about law school, student life, admissions, etc. I am a 2L that did very well 1L year so I am happy to help current 1L's by providing outlining tips, exam advice, stress-management techniques, etc. Leave me questions, comments, and feedback!

  • I don't like how he put that, saying your special because your in law school and that means that your job matters. From my point of view I wanted to help people and do something that mattered so I quit law school and became a police officer and I know what I do is the right thing. To many people go to law school these days because they want to be rich but in that case I found medical school to be more worth while.

  • This man is GOLD!

  • I payed particular attention to the first 2 and last 2 minutes of this video.

  • Wonderful advice, I have been trying to make it hard on myself just with the anticipation. Thanks for showing that the best advice is never complicated.

  • Didnt this school get sued by its own students for lying about the value of their degree and job placement?

  • @Pacers317 "value of a degree" isn't exactly a scientifically quantified thing... though job placement statistics might be a bit more factual i suppose, but it's easy to game the numbers.

  • We cannot give legal advice. TJSL

  • Do lawyers have an interest in a coup d'etat or when the feds commit crimes against humanity? Where do you go when you're psychologically tortured for 3 and half years and your family is forced to sign NSLs and conduct Psy-ops experiments on you? How can I be denied a lawsuit or to speak with an attorney? Any opinions?

  • The guy in this video gives me the creeps.

  • Mr you are maybe the best law teacher ever, i'm gone follow your advice, thank you very much ! ( sorry about my english i am a french law student )

  • His advice works not only for law students but also for any other majors. thanks a lot :)

  • Thanks for the great tips!

  • I'm so glad I've seen this video, applying to law school has been overwhelming and daunting. It made me doubt myself, and look at law school as some untouchable thing, but it's real, and if you use common sense, it'll be okay. Thank you so much!

  • What really helps is a planner

  • We are glad you found them to be helpful!

  • Hi there, i am from switzerland and just started law school - thank you much for the tips :) !

  • what is the average length of a law school class?

  • @TheYoungRepublican1 4 to 5 years...

  • Why don't you study the greatest law school secret of all... "Status" of the American Citizen... Or the 14a subject class citizen. Did you know that when the 14a was passed not a single united States State Citizen's citizenship was altered in any manner? It created a new sub-class citizenship... gave citizenship to corporations, but didnt change a single Constitutional American's Citizenship... So why do you think the Article 1 Section 10 Clause 1 contractual citizenship is now being pitched?

  • Past Exams. Past Exams. Past Exams. Memorize rules word for word. Politics. Be able to apply rules to facts. Don't state the rules and then the facts, state how the facts apply to the rules. And, Past Exams. Good luck. TJSL is a good school. If you're not in law school yet, you might want to do something else with you life.

  • mean i just got mi ged today and i want to go to law school

  • That's alot of books behind him.

  • This sounds like my first week of law school :P

  • The key to success in law school: realize you're here to teach yourself. Professors are mostly irrelevant unless they are analyzing their own hypothetical. The other best thing to do is figure out who they 2L's/3L's are who did well, and get their outlines. I highly recommend borrowing someone's bar review outlines if you can find them: Bar reviewers distill alot of the 1st year content to its essence.

  • im a freshman law school student and ive just had my exams,(failed miserably)

Any advice for me to find out if im just not doing enough,or if im just not interested in it?

  • i am a student of law in England and i think you have some pretty good tips here to offer students

  • In my law studies, i failed in the first year, it was because of making friends who weren't serious about the subject. they acted as distractions. I achieved grade D's

I Retook the year and changed everything, I sat at the front, and never spoke once and i avoided making friends to avoid speaking in classes..... the second tie i achieved straight A's.

I'm not suggesting that being anti-social is the key to good marks, but its what worked for me. Great tips in this clip.

  • Good video but that book shelf behind him is DETERRING!

  • Makes law seem fun!! Thanks for the tips.

  • What a beautiful stache.

  • Great video by who seems to be a great professor!

  • 1:30 The part about sitting in the front is important. I always sit at the front. It astounded me how many people voluntary sit in the back. I don't get it. And then those same people never anwser classroom questions.

  • Excellent! this clip was shown at my lecture, very good advice!

  • helpful video. I'm starting at TJ this fall and its nice to know that there are teachers there who care enough to make a video like this.

  • cool man

  • For those who go to law school, do you have time to go out ever?

  • wow what a great guy. i hope i'll have professors as kind as him next year

  • Boo-yeah Steinberg! Thanks for the advice! Great professor by the way if anyone wants to take his class.

  • i wish i had a professor like that

  • Beautiful! Thanks Professor Steinberg. I wish that all my the teacher were like you!

  • Very informative. Your way of being is very cute. I would love to have you as a prof.

  • any other 1L feeling burnt out already in their first week?

  • thanks for the video dude it was positive

  • Nice,im getting my university degree in canada, and my brother is working in boston and i'll aim for Harvard Law school another good university...all my grades are above 90% since i was 15...

Law is my life.I know i can make it and i hope i'll get in as soon as possible.Good luck to all possible candidates because we all know it ain't gonna be so easy. But sometimes,if you're motivated and put your mind into it,dreams can become true.

  • Fantastic. Absolutely fantastic! Provided me with the morale boost i needed.

  • How long did the boost last?

  • Pace yourself, get a good night's sleep; excellent advice, and not just for law school...

  • We're excited that you chose TJSL!

  • Great video! I'm starting law school in Aug.(At Thomas Jefferson) Thanks for the info Prof. Steinberg!

  • great vid! even for me that im a lawyer !

  • thanks for the tips, i am hopeing to goto law school next year after i get my hs dipoloma after night school, I want to be a defence attorney

  • You can't go to law school until you have a bachelor's degree.

  • That's only true for the US. In Europe, you can start studying law without any degree.

  • yes indeed

  • I agree. Law in Europe is different. All you need to do is pick up the summaries available in the book store and your set!!

  • That doesn't make any sense, pal. I bet you are in law school.

  • Not true

  • Not happening.

  • You should write a book with you ideas!

  • It is so true what he´s saying and I´m a Law student in Spain! same applies here!

  • thanks for the advice..im considering to go into law school but im a little afraid and i doubt if my parents could afford it..

  • I'm ans Law School (2nd year) and that's so true!

  • :P!!

  • Thank you so much for yor words. They have given me hope because Iam a pre- law student at Allen University.

  • Thank you so much:)

  • great advice. thank you!

  • Great video - great advice.

His tips work! Really listen and follow the advice.

    2L Canadian Law Student

  • Nice video, now im going to added on my favorites.

  • thank you for this ^^

  • Hey thanks for the advice!! :)

  • Here is one piece of advice you will never hear the professor recommend to you: Get a commercial outline for each subject. You don't need many, just one for each. It will help you fill in the big picture when despite lectures, it still remains hazy. Not all professors are beacons of clarity. Personally I like Emanuel's!

  • very helpful video! Thank you

  • thank you for making this very informative and helpful video!

  • Yeah...but he's the real deal and you can learn a lot from him.

    Thomas Jefferson Law

  • what University is this?

  • Thank you -- we're glad you found it to be helpful!

  • Great advices!!!!

  • wonderful video! I am a british law student, everything you said applied to me and those in my position, please make some more videos.

  • Great video!!! Thank you so much! :-)

  • it's Harland Williams

  • thanks for the advice.

    live long and prosper.

    cccc

  • that was wonderful. Thank you. If I remember, I'll post again in a few weeks and let you know how your advice worked for me. I start school on Tuesday and I've been feeling pretty nervous for the last few days. At least for a short term, your video has put me at ease. Thank you.

  • Thanks professor - Very helpful and practical advice.

  • thats why the average doctors salary is int he six figures.

  • hahah wow someone is insecure they just spend 100k on a degree that wont get them a job. wow. seriously there is not a need for a lawyers. if you dont get into a top drawer law school or graduate top of your class....you are fucked. there are more people in law school than attorneys practicing law....that tells you something.

  • Well I am not in law school or anything; so I don't know what you mean by "insecure"

Even doctors are 65 when they finish paying off their student loans; perhaps there's more to a good career than what you earn right out of school

A LOT of people go to law school, and then go on to do other things, like teach for example. You are cherry picking statistics.

  • is law school even worth it? I heard there 4 times as many law schoo graduates in this country as there are pracicing attorneys. Seems like a huge waste considering theres a 75% chance you wont get a job doing it.

  • 75% chance you wont get a job?

    haha

Look at the % of graduates who are employed w/ in a few months of graduating

  • oh no youll get a job and maybe a job in law....just not the type of job yourrthinking of. most lawyers who do get hired make like 50k a year or little more. only a tiny fraction ever practive big law and make shitloads.

  • Thank you very much for the nice words. I will start to prepare my final exam this September in Germany and will try to follow your advice. Its a good point with first and last five minutes, one of my German professors told me the same.

  • Thank you so much for your tips and advice. I start law school this fall, so I am finding as much information I possibly can. Once again, thank you!

  • That just makes you a good student. Not a good lawyer. Schools are full of people who 'make it' in university but not out in the real world.

  • and then you find out, you hate being an attorney as most do. your right it takes a really special person.

  • @buffnstuff22 Hello, can you clarify that statement? are you an atttorney? Im thinking about the pros and cons of going to law school.. the only concern I have is my self respect at teh end of the day. Is it hard to sleep at night sometimes? If so I can't deal with that kind of stress... I don't want to defend real scum bags or prosecute those to poor to defend themselves. But if I could make a positive difference -- and some cash -- I'd love it I bet. Andy advice?

  • @bluehorse888 (Youre watching too much TV) Dont be a criminal justice attorney, there are tons of other legal careers such as working for a school district defending schools or work for charity organizations. Some legal professionals work more with people while others more with papers. You should have a passion first then use that passion in your career.

  • @CadenRolland Agreed,Criminal Law is definitely saturated and new grads fight for 30k/year jobs...

You want money as a Lawyer?Get an MBA and specialize in either Corporation,Litigation or Family Law.

  • @WarrenAch You obviously do not practice. Ditch litigation (unless it's high end liti) and family (especially this one!). Corporate & commercial, banking, mergers & acquisitions, corporate finance is where the money is.

  • @Hocksman The problem is...3/4 of Law graduates either Specialize in Criminal or Corporate/Commercial law.

In fact,if you're not in a T14 School(Plus McGill and a few others),be prepared to suck up and fight for jobs in these fields once graduating

Family/Medical Malpractice/Litigation are not as saturated and offer good opportunities, don't fall for the hype.

  • @WarrenAch Ok, fair enough.

  • Kudos to the prof!

  • This professor is funny. Me like. Unfortunately, law school still sucks.

  • Thank you for posting this. It was good to hear the ending it reinforced why I am setting things in motion to get to law school.

  • Thank you so much that really helped!

  • this is an excellent professor

  • thank you!!!

  • That was interesting. I will have to keep those tips in mind.
