Id Software's games run pretty good on Linux with Wine. This is mainly because they support OpenGL omho. I do recall that there was a Linux-version of Quake3...But maybe I'm wrong about that.
DOOM 3 Doesn't need to be launch in VirtualBox and it is not!!!! It is natively launched under the Linux. I don't know what that video really wants to represent...
i wish they had the program fully working which would allow a wii remote to work on pc.and yes i agree with u on better fps gaming with mouse but the wasd control set up craps my hand sometimes an the other functions like crouch aren't as easy to access with my thumb
when you put it on "high" though, that doesn't automatically put all the settings on "high" or a "high" equivalent. all that does is make the in-engine cutscenes look sharper. so you weren't really running the game on high.
i could explain it to you but i can't be bothered. so what i will say is go to Doom 3 on GameSpot and look under the downloads section. go to the only download that says "Linux" in the title and then click on the "View Details" (or whatever) link on that page. it will explain it to you.
D1 that's one of the most common things for everyone to do, you will most likely end up only going to windows for things you need in the end. Customizing ubuntu is the fun part.
Anyway look up a guide to "dual boot xp and ubuntu 8.04" Give it 2 hours and take your time, enjoy
Dual booting is tricky, get the 8.04 LiveCD and use the Wubi installer. It'll keep Ubuntu as a hard disk image file within your Windows partition, so instead of re-partitioning, you only need to have the file there. You can un-install it from Windows. It's way faster than the LiveCD and a little bit slower than a full HDD install.
Yes, when you put multiple servers on your PC, you should autimatically have a dual boot screen come up when you start your computer, asking you which server to load. Its a lot like the new Darwin Boot for the Mac OSX servers. But this sort of thing has been around for windows since I believe..... Windows 2000, correct me if I'm wrong. But I'm telling you. Once you have experienced what Ubuntu(or other Ubuntu based servers) can do you WON'T wanna switch back! FUCK MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP&VISTA!!!!!
VirtualBox offers a certin driver for guest OS (XP in this case) to change it's resolution to that one defined by the window size. So you can change window size on the fly, and windows matches into that (not scaled or something)
These Ubuntu laptops are great. I got a XPS M1330 and had no driver issues at all! Only weired thing was, that dell has installed me a 32bit Ubuntu on a 64bit machine, and also not the newest one. Was easy to fix trough.
yes it did, everything works as soon as you install UBUNTU. then only thing which was a bit tricky was Wireless Drivers, but its just few commands whicih you have to Copy paste in Terminal and it will detect your Wireless too and its ery easy,
SOUND, VGA, Ethernet,Modem everything will work as soon as you will install the Ubuntu 8 on DELL's Latitude D620 & other Latitude Models. but to install WiFi you need to write some commands in Shell, but its easy to find a way to install WiFi in DELL Latitude Laptops if you GOOGLE it.
I am not a power user of Ubuntu either but believe me its Damn easy to install and run Parallel OS in ubuntu, you can run 3 Parallel OS also. use the software Virtual BOX for this..
Its damn easy to install VirtualBox and then installing Windows or any other OS in it... believe me, just guve it a try
i am sorry i dont remember the site, just Google it and you will get it the very second you will press enter.Fedora is Good Distribution but Ubuntu is considered the most easy Linux at the moment for Personal use

I would like to know if you can run doom3 on a virtual machine with windows xp , thx
solarios2000 2 years ago
Maybe. The newer VirtualBox releases are said to have OpenGL acceleration, which Doom 3 will need.
cyborgtroy 2 years ago
ok, so doom3 runs under linux, but still, doesn't doom3 require a killer video card, graphics accelerator, heavy ram, and a maxed-out cpu?
evilunixuser1 2 years ago
eh, no. anything from a GeFore 6200 with a pentium 4 with 512MB ram will run this.

What a stupid faggot. Running one game doesn't show the power of any OS since all you are doing is running one program... DUHHHH!

It's showing how well his virtualization software works.
Doesn't say much about how good Ubuntu is.

i am really not sure if Xp could be running on full screen in virtual box, as i have not tried so deeply for this, but still its quite useable

Can VirtualBox WinXP maximize to fully fit the D630's WXGA+ screen?

(I'm presuming that you have the 1440 x 900 resolution LCD.)
