If Pearl Jam had kept Abbruzzese, they would have broken up years ago. That said, I enjoy his drumming on vs and Vitalogy. It's just there was no way Eddie could have made No Code with Abbruzzese on drums.
@fukuinerd Yeah, me too. I think he was the one who suited Pearl Jam best and it's sad he's no longer in the group. Maybe he'll return one day if Matt Cameron decides he wants to solely dedicate his talents to Soundgarden.
While I wholeheartedly agree --- 1995 was clearly the band at its' absolute best--- unfortunately, if Cameron did decide to return to SG full time, that would be the end of Pearl Jam. Ament has made it clear since '98 that he's done auditioning drummers and would simply quit rather than go through the process yet again.
@Fakename70 i think its a shame that they didnt keep Dave Abbruzzese, his style with the cymbals....i loved that sound he made. Dont get me wrong Matt is a solid drummer but.............
Let me finish that sentence for you. "...he's not a good fit for Pearl Jam." He did a great job on the '98 tour, but, I've not been able to listen to Pearl Jam live since then, primarily down to what's going on with the drums. I bailed on their studio albums after Riot Act, but, not because of Cameron. I just think that every LP since has been mediocre. And, to your point on Abbruzzese; while I prefer the Irons-era, Dave was a perfect fit for the band, in the studio at least.
I was there! Thanks for uploading this :)
