Great! I really enjoy your performance of this song. I once heard Brownie McGee perform it at the Ash Grove (back in the 60s), but I have not been able to find any recording or video of his rendition of the song. Is Brownie the one who wrote it?

Kickingmule posted Browie's 1946 recording on YouTube. It's got some different lyrics.

In the '60's you might have been lucky enough to hear Steve Mann do his arrangement at the Ash Grove--wonderful venue. I got to hear a lot of the old blues men there including the Rev. Gary Davis. (At this point I'm now older than most of them were :o)

Yes, he wrote it. According to Dave Van Ronk, Brownie was only 10 years old when he wrote it. :-)
