OMG when you said "EGGSHELL khaki white" you made me remember about the weirdest thing in my trip to Philadelphia in 2006...I'm from Italy, I have hens and their eggs are definitely NOT white :-)
Anyway I'd like to try some Three Floyds stuff (love their artworks!) but it seems like we're not getting any here in Italy (at least where I live). When are you going to review something from the other side of the Atlantic?
@BeerGeekNation Exactly, a lot of there beers range actually in abv batch to batch. For instance, last time I was at the FFF Brewpub Gumballhead was only 4.5% abv.
Had it a couple of weeks ago up in Chicago... the more I think about it the more I miss it, man. Your review was spot on. Where do you get it online? I'd climb mountains for this beer, man. It truly is fantastic. I had it right alongside an IPA (a good one, too--Bell's Two Hearted Ale) and it's true, Alpha King tastes very much like another IPA. But I liked Alpha King better because it's got a nutty, slightly toasted character to it that balances the piney hoppiness spectacularly.
@AlvinHDavernport Plus Alpha King is like 4% so its a really great session beer. The place I get it actually went out of business! So I havent had it in forever!
@BeerGeekNation Shame! I mean, it's not like there aren't other great beers out there, but Alpha King really is something special and I would really like to be able to have it more often. We don't get Bells, Goose Island, Founders or Three Floyds down here in Texas, and that's kind of killing me. Where do you live, by the way?
And yes, that's one of the many qualities of Alpha King. Nothing about it stops you from having a second or third one once you start drinking!
I've realized that a lot of Three Floyd's beers taste alike. Their Broo Doo Harvest Ale, Alpha King Pale Ale, Pride & Joy Mild Ale, Gumball Head all have this fresh, grassy, citrusy hops taste to them, which is awesome.
@BrokenGalaxy I completely agree! They really nail the west coast ipa taste. Ive got a review coming for their Arctic Panzer DIPA coming in a week or so.
chris, the appearance of this beer is fantastic,i prefer ipa's,but a real good pale ale can draw me there, stone's, and dale's pale ale are two of my favorites, have to try this one for sure, great review!!
Great review Chris! This one sounded very interesting. I have only had their Mikkeller collabs, but i would love to try some their stuff sometime. Cheers!
@AgileHProductions Thats FFF's thing they do. They take a style and do something completely off style with it. On the 6 Pack holder it even says "Its not normal..". Most pales are made with a 2 Row Base, Im guessing this is as well but they probably added some Cara 65 or something like that to get the mouthfeel and color
Have you heard anything about dorf68's dorfantine XXX? Best pale ale I've ever had. I'm no beer geek, but I do know a good beer when I taste one. If you're not familiar with dorf68 check out his channel, and get a dorfantine XXX or 2.

Alpha King is a decent beer that is a cross between a pale and an IPA...you will not be disappointed with Alpha King

why do you say 6 % when on there site and at the brewpub they say 6.5ABV?....
Niksti7 7 months ago
@Niksti7 It might vary a bit between batches. That is probably what happened here

I wish we got 3 floyds here in PA. I'd like to try everything they make.

Why do you have to call it a pale ale if it is so far from the style? Do they use pale malt? What makes it so dark?
