  • you are so cute and delicate. I really enjoyed the tutorial.

  • awesome tut! :) my bangs already look like that tho

  • You are absolutely gorgeous.

Not to mention, you have real talent for this kind of stuff :)

    I'm amazed.

  • what size is your curling iron?

  • I was born in the wrong time :(

  • women in the past looked so well put together, it's unbelievable.

  • whats the song called? :}

  • thank you so much, amazing

  • You are so sweet:)your tutorials are very helpful running to buy some bobby pins

  • you are so cute

  • I wish I could pin it in a bun, my hairs super long. :[

  • i really want everything about the 1940's style to be back in... the clothes, the hair, the makeup, it's all so gorgeous compared to the styles today.

  • @rylee033 I know everyone dresses sluty with tons of eyeliner

  • @rylee033 I say just wear that style anyway! Help bring it back. No one's really going to care that much anyway. Own your style!

  • You are seriously the best hair style video maker on youtube...all your styles are so flawless and pretty and accurate and the instructions are so easy. Thank you :)

  • Nice tutorial. Adorable dress. And I appreciate the marcel wave tutorial. This is the best I've seen.

  • omg i love this! :D

    sooooo amazing!

  • by the way: i LOVE your dress :D

  • i love your tutorials but your personality is still a mystery:)

  • @girl4godbfaith haha, my personality is? I wonder why that is :)

  • @StrawberryKoiVintage i also love your tutorials but i think what girl4godbfaith means is that you're quite serious in your tutorials. You don't mess up or laugh :D

  • @KeishaMJFan haha, I'm sure that is just because I am really concentrating on what I'm saying in these videos. I'm usually thinking "Wow, that sounded really stupid" and am a little embarrassed. It's hard to tell anything about a person from a simple tutorial, because it's not a conversation to get to know me, you know what I mean? ;)

  • @StrawberryKoiVintage Oh of course I totally understand :) i was just pointing out my theory on why girl4godbfaith would think that. I also just found out you're a mom! That amazes me because i always forget you're like 24 because you look SO young :D

  • @KeishaMJFan Thanks, m'dear :)

  • @girl4godbfaith i agree. i think your just not really expressive in your face. very calm i guess.:)

  • @littleladykitty haha, it's like, crazy late but I never noticed this comment before. I don't think you see a lot of expression, because I'm in a state of trying to concentrate on what I say. I'm usually a little embarrassed, because what I just said felt really stupid :)

  • Thanks for the great vid! Looks gorgey on you, hon :)

  • wow ur Japanese, cool, Im just a little bit..

  • THANK YOU! I'm 14 and struggeling to express my personality through my look, I love vintage clothing/makeup/hairsstyles & I have been looking for a channel like yours for ages, subbed thanks!

  • You are so pretty!!

That hairstyle is amazing! I wish all girls could take the time to do this. It's so elegant looking. (:

  • @americanhersheybar Thank you so much!!! :)

  • @americanhersheybar But if all girls did this hairstyle, it wouldn't be as pretty and unique when you see it on someone.

  • you're so graceful! :)

  • @classicfashionerd Awe, thank you! :D

  • oh no I found out later when I went to your profile >___< I wrote that question before I read it xp

  • What is your ethnicity? Just out of curiousity you looked mixed. I just checked out your website I LOVE IT! the front page is all alice in wonderland inspired and LEWIS CARROLL's books are my favorite, my daughter is even named Alice :D Your tutorials are amazing and so is your style! Keep making more, you're great ^_____^

  • @Hellomiso Didn't I answer this question? I thought I did, maybe I simply dreamed it... I am Japanese and German :) I'm so happy that you enjoyed my site!!

  • you are awsome with the haistyles,im trying new looks and i felt in love with the 40s and 50s your videos helped me alot thanks!

  • Oh wow, I love thisss! I just discovered your videos today because I feel like spicing up my hair since I just wear it down all the time, it's getting dull. xD I agree, I think you should do a hairstyle for when she's getting engaged. :]

  • This is beautiful, I love your tutorials! x

  • Brilliant! I'm such a huge fan of the notebook and these tutorials are amazing. Any chance of you doing one for her hairstyle when she's getting engaged? I adore that one!

  • @Allie6640 Thank you! I can certainly make an attempt! :)

  • ohhhmyyy Im so in love with your videos!!! Thankk youuu !!! Are you a hairdresser? You know so much about hairstyles and vintage history. You're so lovelyyy

  • @sooywhatevah Awe, thank you so much! No, I'm not a hairdresser or any sort of stylist. I am just a simple wife, mother and lover of all things vintage :) I work at a vintage store with a bunch of fashionable girls and watch a lot of make-over shows... that's about the extent of my "training" ;)

  • I though I was weird being the only one at my school who follows the sort of 40s hairstyle. I'm so happy you made this tutorial :D Where to you shop? Your clothes always look adorable!

  • @ekarina0803 Awe, thank you hun! I shop at so many places... thrift stores mainly, but also vintage stores, UrbanOutfitters. Forever21, ebay, etsy... pretty much anywhere I can :)

  • Personally i love the 1940s, and these are really cool!! =]

i just have to say dont use yellow text cause every time they come on i cant read what it says. but all of your videos are really cool i really enjoy watching them

  • The cat made me laugh really hard. But thanks, haha, this is a really good tutorial. (:

  • What cat?

  • you remind me of selma blair. but prettier!

  • (: love your videos, tried this last week, got a lot of compliments <3 thank you !!

  • You remind me of Regina Spektor! :D

    You're so pretty.

  • Thank you for your videos !

  • your hair is so easy to mold and curl! i am so jealous!

  • Thank you! Sometimes it feels like a pain, that means a lot to hear :))

  • I enjoy watching all these videos. You don't need makeup. You have a nice complexion and your features are pretty and well defined.

  • Awe... thank you for that :))

  • You are really pretty!

  • If you don't like the look, then simply don't do it. As for makeup, I personally hate makeup, it's too fake and a waste of my time ^.^;;

  • you dont need makeup and you have lovely skin

dnt ruin it with chemicals and ther stuff!

  • if you NEED makeup to feel good about urself thenn....

  • cause that's not catty...

  • This was spot on. Just like allie's hair!

  • I used this video to do my hair last night and it looked beautiful! It was a little trickier as my hair's longer by I just left it in long ringlets rather than in a bun as you recommended and it looked great. Really lovely. Thank you so much!

  • It looks beautiful! thanks!

  • Thank YOU ^_^

  • this looks just like allie! its amazing!

  • Thank you so much :)

  • You really look like Anna Popplewell of the Chronicles of Narnia films!!!

Amazing tutorial as well! I will definately be using one of your looks for my halloween look!

    Thanks!

  • Thank you :) And Anna is very pretty, so I will take that as a compliment!

  • i LOVE this! It's amazing, first time i've come across one of your videos and i especially love the way you talk us through the instructions. it's very helpful, i'm not sure if it will work in my hair, but i'm definitely looking forward to trying! thanks!!

  • Thank you so much :)

  • Thank you so much for all of these hairstyles. Right now, I am about to begin a production of Guys and Dolls, and I need several different hair looks. This has really helped me achieve what I'm looking for. Thanks!

  • Oh wow this looks great! I am defiantly going to have to try something like this for tonight. Not sure how the bun will turn out since my hair is so long and straight but we'll see :)

  • thats beautiful i am trying to figure out which classy style to do for homecoming!

  • Awe, that's great! :D Good luck

  • I've always wondered how they did the bang part!!

  • could you tell me where you got this dress, as well??

  • This is another dress from the 1940's... I got this one via eBay :)

  • You know your tutorial is the only one listed under 'marcel wave' on youtube? I think that's great!

  • That is awesome :D

  • Prehaps it's the classic, old fashion hairstyles... but you strike me as an 'old soul.' Great videos!

  • This looks so great! I can't wait to try it, thanks for the video :)

  • your music is so ominous o_o but your hair looks awesome :]

  • haha... whenever I play, a more sorrowful and romantic side of myself comes out... It's usually better to just do what you do best, rather than fight it :)

  • I've been looking all over for the Marcel Wave (didn't know its name) after watching the Notebook! I love you for putting this up, you have the most beautiful vintage hair tutorials everr. xoxo

  • Thank you! I'm happy to have helped :D

  • You are so cute! And such a soft, relaxing voice. Haha, you put me at such ease. I actually feel like I can do this.

  • Awe, thank you so much!!! ^_^

  • This is so gorgeous. And you make it look so easy!

  • LOVE the ponytail look before the bun. So cute. :o)

  • Beautiful! You make it look so easy! Love it!

  • i loooove it!!

  • Thank you! :)

  • soooo cute!

  • Thank you! :)

  • Hi there,

Just wanted to say great videos! I was wondering if you could do a more detailed tut on finger waves? :)

Thanks! Keep up the good work!

  • Sorry for the late reply! I will definitely be doing a finger wave video in the future... I will try my best to get a little bit better at it, and get a video up soon rather than later :)

    Thank you so much!!!

  • you have great hair. I tried to do the bun part but my hair doesn't seem to want to mold into place. I am thinking I wash my hair too often. Do you wash your hair everyday or is it better to do these styles with day after hair? I wish someone would do a tutorial on hair care. How often to wash your hair, how to keep it looking clean even when it's not. Keep up the good work! Thanks!

  • You know, I was just thinking today, I should a video on hair care :) I will take your advice and work on that :)

As for your question, I actually wash my hair prior to all of my videos, so my hair is very clean...

  • I would love a video on hair care and finger waves (popular in the 1920s and 1930s) Thanks! =) I curled my hair yesterday and styled a marcel wave. People loved the change.

  • ya!!!!!!! finger waves are the best!!!!!!!!

  • I used to do this all the time when I was growing my bangs out - only i didn't realise it was called a Marcel wave, I just thought I was being creative! I only used bobby pins though, I never thought of using the large clips to tease my hair into the style. I think ill try that next time and see whether it works any better :) I love your shirt in this tutorial btw

  • I'm sure your way is just as sufficient, but I do think it's best to experiment! ^_^ Thank you so much!

  • this is a really great tutorial

    thanks

  • how long do you hold your curling iron on your hair????

  • I usually count to 10 slowly, but I also check my very lightly touching the hair. If the hair is warmed through, you know it's ready :)

  • thanx i love this style.

  • heyy, do you think that you could do a christina aguilera candyman hairstyle. i have an eigth grade formal in a week and i need a super cute hairstyle i could do my self. this is my dresss so i need something to go with it , thanks! ps i loveee ur videos!

  • you are very talented

  • Ive only just started watching tem, but from what Ive seen, your videos are fantastic! I absolutely love your style and I think the elegance you do this with is just brilliant. :) Im looking foreward to seeing more. :)

  • Thank you, lovely ^_~

  • My granny wore this style from the 20s until she died in 1977!

  • haha, that's pretty awesome :)

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial; this is an easy hairstyle that I now wear everyday, only doing the twists and leaving the rest of my hair loose. It's perfect and thoroughly 1940s. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • That's great!!! I'm so happy to hear that ^_^

  • you're amazing!! i've been looking for vintage-looking hairstyles for ages, then i found you! thanks soo much aya! you're the besttt!

  • Lovely as usual, my friend.

  • Thank you, darling! ^_^

  • hey, i posted another comment. It was just to say that I never thought of using those hair seperator clips to make waves...too cool for school!

  • Awesome! Thank you! ^_^

  • i know this might be a personal question but are u married? u look SO young...

  • haha, that's ok :) I'm turning 24 this year, so I guess I'm a little younger than some to be married ;)

  • This is a much easier way of styling bangs than what I have been doing...thanks for posting this.

  • Great, that's awesome ^_^

  • did i just hear a kitty??!!

your hair came out very nice!

    <3

  • haha, you sure did =^_^= She was harrassing me for breakfast.

    Thank you much!

  • So pretty!!

Can you please do a finger wave tutorial?

I cant figure them out, and could you advise how would be best to cut your hair?

  • I'm definitely planning on it ^_^ I've just been hoping to improve my technique before I make a tutorial...

As for hair cut, do you mean for my particular hairstyle or cutting your own hair or just in general..?

  • Well Im growing my hair out right now and it needs a cut, and i want to a great cut, so i can do all of your styles you show and so it will grow out super pretty. do you know any? or do you have any advice?

  • I see :) I have a "middy" cut, which is the most common haircut from the 40's and was specifically designed for these certain hairstyles that I've taught. I'll send you a link for more info, so that you can take it to your salon :)

  • Aww thank you soo much!! i love your videos!

    :D

  • can you do it with a curling iron? can you make a vid on it? or tell me please?

    love the tut.

  • Yes, you can do it with ANY curling method! ^_^ I just find that this is the *easiest* and quickest way to achieve the look, especially for beginners.

With a curling iron, I would curl the hair as normal... then brush it out, while trying to mold the shape (and use hairspray for pliability) More than special technique, it just takes perseverance and determination :)

  • Beautiful look. You are so sweet and pretty. Keep up the great work! :)

  • Thank you! ^_^

  • How did you get rid of the 'rainbow' (as I call them) they are the little strings of hair that pop up when you're twisting'n'pushing your hair up. I get them all the time when I twist my hair. I get lucky sometimes by wetting my fingers and rubbing the hair down and then pinning the strand down under the twists, but this isn't always effective. It seems I just end up getting more problems, and in the end over bobby-pinning my hair.

What is your method of fixing the strings that bump up?

  • This is where my biggest use of hairspray comes in!! :) I use it to smooth down the upper layers, and reduce "fly-a-ways", or rainbows ;) I just spray, and lightly comb down.

    Hope that helps!!

  • This is very cute! Keep them coming...

  • Thank you!!

  • Hey, can you make the font bigger next time? It's kinda hard to read. Oh and I looove your dress, and next time I curl my hair, I will try this.

  • Sure thing, and thank you!!

  • its very simple and very beautiful! love it

  • Thank you! ^_^

  • OMG, that's great!!!

I definitely gonna try it soon, I love that one: you know, I tried lots of your hairdos lately, and they are gorgeous!

PS: you unintentionally wrote a 'w' instead of an 'e' in the word 'notebook' into the tag area: this could make it more difficult to find that video...

  • Thanks so much!! ^_^

  • you should see the movie "Mona Lisa smile"..is great..:)

    i love this tutorial! *

  • Yeah, I've actually always wanted to see it ^_^

    Thank you!!!

  • Wow this was SUCH a great tutorial! Thank you for teaching us how to do this! :) xoxo Anna

  • Thank you, thank you!! ^__^

  • I think the movie is fantastic.

and thanks for doing these tutorials, :)

    Ana Rita (portugal)

  • Thanks so much!!

  • wow i do the marcel wave too but instead use bobby pins although i think this gives it more lift. thanx for posting

  • hm, I've never noticed any difference in lift, myself... but bobby pins are definitely just as good as chopstick clips!! ^_^

    Thanks for watching!!! ^-^

  • love u!

  • heehee! ^-^
