  • Well, I mean, sometimes I think and see colors when listening to music. When I hear techno, I think of blue, and with classic rock I think of black and purple. Broadway stuff is red and heavy metal is deep purple. Pop is green and classical is brown.

  • A is blue for me.

  • a is red

  • J G Ballard was a doctor turned novelist, who incorporated musings about the nature of the brain into his early short stories - notably Voices of Time, from 1960 - contains a provocative description of irradiated creatures who (briefly) develop synesthetic capability. Some of the story takes place inside the mind of a mutated creature of this type

  • You guys are so full of shit. I've been told that under 20 people truly have this disorder.

  • ha is true my 1 is black and 0 is white!!!

  • TL;DR

  • A is Blue , i can't get this

    aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Synaesthesia requires attention?...

  • @raydredX This means that if you do not focus on it, than you do not percieve it.

  • A few of mine: The color yellow smells like daisies. The color brown smells like cows.

  • I tend to relate colours with letters. For example whe I visualise vowel "i" it is yellow for me or in other words, vowel "i" evokes colour yellow to me. This is just one of many kind of asociations I make and I cannot remember every one right now, but it is not something I do regularly. I guess most people do things like this.

  • A is Blue for me....can someone pleaseeeee tell me wat tht means?????

  • @ReazShelly Nothing particular, it is just blue for you.

  • My son gets pain in his eyes when hearing the hook and loop noise

  • its a matter of learning to recognize it as a clear advantage over others. The problem being is schools arent designed to accomodate us. They know we are the third eye's in modern materialism. They want you to stop looking deep within yourself. No one else is going down the rabbit hole. Governments hope we are a dying breed. The last thing we need is a free thinking synaesthete. I call it Psi. Or maybe even a minor awakening into the realm of thought at the least.

  • I associate colors with sounds/music... For me, human singing voices are red tones, and things like pitch, volume, tone, and power determine things like the hue, value, saturation, shade, etc. of red...

Something like a singing voice is pretty easy to make out, but it's an obscure sensation a lot of the time.

  • I can hear sounds when i touch and vice-versa.

  • 3:42- Thanks for letting me know I am an Associator.

All my letters and numbers have color when I visualize them,- not when i physically read. Letters also have emotional attachments - good and bad

  • WTFF?!?! A WAS THE COLOR BLUE?!

  • A is red for me

  • I am the only one in my family who has synesthesia.

  • The english could be better....

  • im an associator! its crazy how much the colors of the letters mean to me, especially in some letters. I can't think of the letter D in black or yellow. it HAS to be green or it doesn't make as much sense. I think that i sometimes stumble on my words a bit when I'm reading because the colors don't match up. without the right colors, a letter is only half of its whole.

  • @cookiecrumble748 I'm an Associator too. Only my "D" is always a tangerine color,

A is tomato red, F is a really ugly brown

If I see a poster or a magazine ad and letters are printed in colors that I don't associate , I find myself startled for a moment.

  • RED

  • @RoboticusMusic same

  • @demariosworthit

Some people say that acupuncture makes your synthsesia much stronger for a while. Of course for some synethsthetes this has the opposite effect, but it's worth a try! I'd like to try it myself

  • A is blue!

  • whats the music in the background at the start of the vid ?

  • My showers are green and 'gloopy', I went to a skate park and I seen purple floating around, this one time I was playing a video game and listening to music and little red fireworks started zooming around everywhere, I must be a synnie but I think I dont pay enough attention to my senses to REALLY expierience synesthesia. Any tips synnies? I can sort of see a shadow around letters and numbers but I can't make out a color for them. I know stuff is different for each of us but any rule of thumb?

  • A is defiantly not green it is RED

  • A is red why don't you know this!

  • @kyexaiik TOTALLY AGREED. She's red. Very very red.

  • first part is orange and red till .50 then it goes to purple with a little orange and then spots of red. some yellow came at 1:36 then the purple orange took completely. at 2:08 started getting silver from pinging, went to amber at 2:40. then orange at 3:04, for me there are no shapes just color that is always moving. a bit like a light fog running water would be yellow, base guitar would be red, flutes would be blue or purple most voices are amber with tinges of other colors red to purple

  • I love you!!! it was so helpful for my essay! i realy love you!

  • Every synesthete's perception is different!! you can't tell which perception is right and which isn't! so you can't argue about what sex, color, taste a letter or number or thing has.Maybe there could be similarities but it only depends on how the synesthete perceives his ot her world!

  • @jimena31 AGREED!

  • For anyone has Synesthesia: can you listen to Owl City's song "Dreams don't turn to dust" and tell me what you see?

  • @free1here Owl city songs are generally a light blue and green but it is misty too.

  • @free1here I see little dots ranging from yellow to orange to red. They're bright. They're laughing, playing and are very young. They may be a little unintelligent, but at least they're happy.

  • @MrDwilly wow i love that observation:) yeah a lot of his music reminds me of things like that..I am not synaesthestic (sp?)..but his music really helps my imagination become more clearer seeing positive stuff...I know his gift is from God:)

  • I'm pretty sure all of you guys think E is male while Y is female, right?

  • @langhalsen I find E is female too

  • i have synesthesia, and things are not necessarily attached to a specific color they have an image/feeling/mental picture. so i laugh at those of you who are arguing about what each letter, it is a personal experience shaped form your personal experiences, personality, and your outlook on life. PLUS IT GOES FOR ALL SENSES, not just sound-visual or numerical value-color ect. and if you are arguing about the ABSOLUTE VALUE of a numbers color chances are you're victim to the placebo effect. lol....

  • @chris627627 did you get it from taking lsd?

  • @hyphyboy777 no i have had it all of my life. but.... it is intensified when i am high (weed) i can see a flowing image in my head from listening to music. i have never tried psychedelics.

  • @chris627627 my friend says something similar

  • the music is so beautiful, it's distracting.

  • The thing about the similar letters is very true for me. I and 1 are both yellow, m an n are both dark, M is very dark blue and n is dark green. And O and 0 are both similar, O is Dark purple and 0 is black. 0=black 1=yellow 2=orange 3= tangerine 4 =lilac 5=red 6=purple 7=blue 8= dark green 9= hot pink But double digits are undescribable colours :) My syneathesis includes weekdays, months, emotions, personalities, numbers, alphabet and musical instruments, all to colour :)
  • For me, Tuesdays are yellow, 4 is yellow too but brighter and "ay" is red. Sunday is skin colored and my sisters name, Caroline, is orange. I always thought I was crazy, glad to know I'm not the only one lol :)

  • @ThereminWeirdo i dont match colors up with sounds.. i only picture the colors in my head, so for me, A is always red, B is always blue, C is always yellow, and so on.

  • @pillsberrydoughgirll i kinda have synesthesia, if you tell me to draw out letters or numbers, or write the names of months or people's names, i would want to write them in certain colors because it would look better to me. I dont see colors when reading, but if i hear the month "march" i think in my head "aqua blue", or if i drew out a card for my friend, "lauren", her name would be in perriwinkle.

  • Wait im just wondering because i don't have this..and i kinda wish i did haha it seems like it makes everything prettier but anyways are the letters in this sentence all different colours or are they just black? i don't really understand lol :)

  • A is red! not yellow orange, green or aqua! great video, i learned alot about myself! haha :)

  • @rayrayrox888 I think it's red too!!

  • Comment removed

  • for me the numbers 5 and 8 have always been pink and grey. but only when they are together i dont see any other numbers as having their own colour. :)

  • a=red b=blue c=yellow d=dark blue e=yellow f=orange g=green h=brown i=light blue j=dark green k=purple l=orange m=yellow n=yellow o=variable (white or blue) p=blue q=purple r=red s=orange t=dark blue or brown u=yellow v=maroon w=green x=black y=yellow z=??

Some colours are really strong and some are really weak or variable...

  • A for me is green. I don't think colours are the same among all synaesthetes.

  • @BagonafStudios GREEN?? LOL For me it's most definately red. She's sort of a bitch, the letter A, but she's really just lonely and sad. She wishes she could get close to people, but her bitchiness pushes people away. I can eve see what kind of woman she'd look like.

  • @BagonafStudios A for me is red....in some ways synesthesia for me is a heavy burden....my sense of taste is the only one that is not mixed with the other senses...but the rest of them are extremely developed...i can touch whatever i see....i can see colours in every letter and number...i can touch and see sounds....i have this condition since i was 5 years old...actually it was then when i realised that something was not right...

  • @BagonafStudios Yeah, they aren't! :) I participated in a study about that... And my A is yellow. I don't think I could imagine a green A!

  • @SynesthesiaSoup Lol, likewise I couldn't imagine A being yellow XD

  • @BagonafStudios A to me is red

  • @BagonafStudios

Green is the opposite of Red... close enough I say... like the after image would be green for me, but it's red always.

  • A is bright yellow!

  • A is blue what? i always thought it was red

Blue is D and not A

  • Your wrong! A is orange!

  • @AwesomeNinja78 hahahahahahaha! This is soooooooo funny!

  • This Confused Me..

  • a is red to me

  • A is NOT red to me! Many synnies have red A's. Mine is a watery, light aqua.

  • so many things wrong

but since it's on youtube, it MUST be true...

  • ahhhh, no wonder I can never pass the brain age color/ name test... LOL

  • Interesting... It's funny to me however because A, to me... constantly changes.

    Red = C (3) Orange = D( 4) Violet = B (2) Yellow= E (5) Green = F (6) Blue = G (7)

but A is never consistent. Neither is 0 zero changes from white to pale shades of pink.

  • I see colors for numbers, letter, days of the week, and months

  • I've heard Synaesthesia can be knocked on by an injury to the head. Is this true? On another note, there are two incredible looking brunettes at 6:58. Oh what I would give for a night with that pair.

  • My daughter is Deaf-Bling and Mute,I wonder if someone can explain to me as if she can have synaesthesia, she can smell, touch and taste. She giggle during sleep while dreaming,I wonder what does she see's or hears?is it tactile simulation/stimulation.Lately I have seen a video a turkish blind man can paint with colors, how isit possible?any clues?

  • Thanks for the info! I see colours in my minds' eye, when I read words, letters and numbers. I always thought you only had true synaesthesia when you saw the colour projected out, but it turns out, I may be an associator. :)

  • what about synaesthetic orgasms....better than any computerised visualisation!

  • @louloutinkerbelle I enjoy those... Happens every time!

  • very interesting. I love this factor. It's like giving us misticism to our grey routine.

  • This isn't just associating a song with a feeling, a feeling with a color, or a color with a song ... this is so much more than that. These people do not listen to a song and put a feeling/mood/color with it to fit ... they don't get to pick what they see/smell/feel when it comes to these things. For example, it isn't a song, it is a sound within that that gives them a specific color. There are other examples including numbers and letters, but it is only something like 1% of the world.

  • i do not have this but, but I am shizo and can smell my feelins and music enchanches it. what is that?

  • @dreamsandnightmarez Smelling feelings is synaesthesia. It is not schizophrenia. Have you been diagnosed with schizophrenia by a doctor?

  • @MyLizardQueen Many synesthetics are diagnosed with some kind of mental disorder... Frankly, I'm quite tired of that.

  • I just wanna say... it seems kinda interesting that you look at a video about something out of the ordinary and all of a sudden in the comments there are a million people saying "oh I have that too"... not saying i dont believe you all its just a little bit weird.

    Excellent vid by the way.

  • At 2:30 I saw blue diamonds with pressing red stripes that pushed up and away...funky stuff.

I don't particularly know what kind of synesthesia I have. I know my mind works a little differently...it's a feeling with words.

I associate everything with a color or mood, though.

  • What about the first song? It's equally beautiful. What's it called?

  • Synnies

  • Comment removed

  • Peter Gabriel songs such as "In Your Eyes" and "Sledgehammer" are amathyest purple for me. Most rap is a shade of kelly green.

  • One of LSD's lingering effects can be synaesthesia.

  • The first video is mostly forest green, with silver, and the second is silver and has beautiful textures.

  • I have always known synaesthesia isn't a defect. It doesn't take some scientist to tell me what I should do with my mind. I scoff at the paradigm of today's scientific minds too often I have been right and they have been wrong. I never get a cent for it because I apply my science to either myself or others and experiment without the need to chase money. I have a brain and I use it. Unlike those poor confused intellectuals. I am only 20.

  • I love the first song. it's so beautiful dark blue and black :)

  • 1st song is foresty color

  • So it is actually language processing defect. The sound is mis-associated by the brain with a color.

The associations with text, i.e., seeing a Zero as white, really come from knowing that the image represents of the spoken word for Zero. Are deaf-mutes prone to this?

  • I am almost certain I have this a-red b-blue c-green d-blue e-green f-brown g-brown h-yellow i-white j-purple k-pink L-yellow m-red n-red o-black p-green q-purple r-red s-yellow t-blue u-yellow v-purple w-red x-yellow y-yellow z- for see I see a pattern and not a certain color?? I see stripes..

  • @MIKAFAN41 my r's and a's are red too, and they are also the color of 1. As a kid, I'd also accidently say the first letter of the alphabet is R because it has the number one color.

I've never been evaluated myself but I do see colors and shapes when I hear music (in a mind's eye sense) and letters and numbers have colors. My mom also tastes colors.

  • What's the first song that plays, before the Les Djinns remix? It sounds like it belongs in a Hayao Miyazaki film.

  • @soliloquyxdreams sorry i'm a bit late ;)

the song is called "Nocturne" it's from Secret Garden a band from Norway. They won the eurovision song contest in 1995. :)

    Greez

  • what is it when rare things bother you like simple things like some one cleaning and its you responsibility but that specific thing must be clean or it bothers me.for another example my friend wears socks into the pool and shes has to take them off or i will take them off by force its like things have to be done right or i go crazy,i hope its not ocd

  • ALL that synesthesia seems really weird.

but could it also be associated with cases like symbolizing one set of things with others??

  • I guess i dont have Synaesthesia. cant relate to any of this...

  • A is orangey red.

  • The first song to me has deep red colour..maybe a deep orange-brown..

  • Fun fact: learning Arabic the letter Jeem was terrible to learn since it was purple from having a sound like J but was red since it looks like T. Never properly learned it, lol. Not that I can't learn it, goes to show how synesthesia when unhinged by chance in circumstances can make things a lot harder. Synesthesia is great!

  • For me, the colors don't change based on the letter's capitalization... but I notice that I sometimes do base it on the shape. I know both English and Russian; Russian has a few characters that look identical to their English counterparts but sound different. The letter "B" in Russian actually makes a "V" sound, but it's colored identically to the English "B".

  • @ hahayourcoool

Wow! Your comment basically describes what I've been noticing all my life. I've been reading a book called "The Power Of Concentration" and I now understand that thought has a power that we yet do not know much about.

Now that I discovered that I have enough ecotplasm that I obtained from meditation, I'm starting to practice telekenesis. It's so sad to see people who do not understand this thing. The brain has some sort of energy that connects with the universe. Look it up ;X

  • This is a creative thing that anyone can due, people who are autistic or who have brain damage often end up in this position due to large amounts of introversion and introverted thought projection. People dont realize that not just the brain but outside of it there are ghost muscles involved with thought, the more you do practice or enphisize anything the more it will take place. There are alot of people who do this i would assume, alot of people who do this that would just think it normal.

  • The word "Red" is dark-red-brown. Even when presented as bright red or dark green color, it's remembered in my mind as "It's a red-brown sound." 1 and I are yellow-white but the notch makes the shape more yellow. N is tan-orange yet M is mauve. O and 0 are different because the O gives a rounder and therefore brighter peach/grey appearance. These are consistent for me.

  • so.. these shapes.. are they just there.. like visualy? do they overlay things? like do things turn like a blue hue or something?

the only thing i see is the occasional floatie

  • this is fascinating. Wonder if they will find out later down the road that this is a form of autism?

  • no. absolutely not. not even close.

  • I have something weird, I don't do the color letter thing, but when I associate an action, with a certain place(i.e. Modifying NCAA 05 rosters = backyard at friends house, or a certain football game = South Corridor at my school). I wasn't thinking about those things at those places they just came into my head, and whenever I do or think about doing those things, those places come to

Mind. Is this considered synesthesia? Any thoughts?

  • @ndwillriseagain It sounds like a related phenomena, but with crossing memories rather than sensations. I'm not sure if it has a name, but still pretty interesting.

  • im pretty sure its a different kind of synesthesia

  • @ndwillriseagain; Sounds like associative memory or even simple Transderivational search.

  • that twinkling sound half-way made me see a lime-yellow circle.

  • okay so i am an associate

  • There are a number of spelling errors and grammatical errors in your video, I wouldn't have said this without a point. When I see spelling errors or grammatical errors they have a contrasting, aura, per say to them compared to the other words in the video. Some of the words have strange color like attributes to them but they are kinda vague, but spelling and grammatical errors are contrast.

  • Awhile ago I used to argue with people about what color they thought of when they say the numbers 3 and 7 i always thought of orange and green respectively, now ironically for me orange + green = 10 and if you look in the related videos there is a thumbnail with an orange 3 and a green 7.

  • I taste colour, the colours here change as I look at them

  • C is without the slightest doubt a clean shade of red, but im not too sure about A. Maybe a greyish almost white kinda colour, or yellow as mentioned before

  • A is red.

  • Definetly not. A is a solid yellow.

  • no its yellow

  • I mainly see colored numbers (sometimes letters, too) and always see sounds. I also at times can see pain and taste sounds.

  • You know, this is really cool to me, because I recently found out that my mom has a very unique type of synesthesia. And now, after gathering info from many different websites, I have concluded that I have a few types of it as well. Yay! @(^_^)@

  • sources?

  • any synnie can hear the pain?

  • This is soo informational thank you !

  • One of my dreams is too get many people together , that has synth. Then too make a giant art project or....music project ..It would be massive! Im sure

  • I have it would love too talk too any body else who does...put a comment on my you tube site

  • i gots it :D

  • I had this as a kid but it's faded to nearly nothing now I'm an adult.

  • Black is not a color, you moron (though synaesthetes can see black numbers and letters).

  • I'm sure this has already been said, but the definition of synesthesia is more 'the process of one kind of sensory stimulus evokes the subjective experience of another' than 'one sense elicits others'.

There's a slight difference between the two definitions but it matters. After all, a sense can't illicit anything- the sense is the perception, the stimulus is the part of the equation that triggers the synesthetic response.

  • ok what hapins to me is ppl i know i see colors and here music for them everyone is defiant i don't control it at all its in my real site not minds eye and iv had it for as long as i can remember i don't know hats rong with me :(

  • It feels so great to know that im not the only one. ive hid this my whole life. i read A Mango Shaped Space and realized what i had.

i have gamene synesthesia, so the color-number/letter kind. I can also see shapes with sound.

I failed spanish haha. it was so hard! "hola" and "hello" were completely different and too confusing for me!

    kudos on the music btw

  • I have this condition. For me sound that elicit a sense of touch and taste is a common as visual sensations. I also have epilepsy a condition in a lot of ways not unrelated to this. if anyone knows someone wants to study my brain or to research let me know.

  • wowZa!! people with Synaestheshia (SP) are really just...wow man thats cool my mom has this and its like a time thing like...a sideways spiral and she ses time like that...i think it awesome...whats the songs by the way i love them ^.^

  • time-space synaesthesia. your mum can see time and thats pretty cool

  • Wow, I did some research; found out its genetic o.o"

  • I'd be glad if someone could tell me the title of second song from this video :( I'm really in love with it, but I don't know it's name. -.-

  • Djumanji sound system - les dijns

  • @echobum Secret Garden - Nocturne

  • hi nice video. i have a question i see colors in side of ppl a color all there one no 2 the same iv seen these colors my hole life do i have synesthesia?

  • Comment removed

  • yeah. personality-colour type or "aura". friend of mine at college had it

  • i see so is something wrong with me?

cas it das help me get along with ppl :D

  • nah, if anything i can only see advantages, i've heard everyone has it on some level or another. i arnt a synnie, i dont project, but i do associate types of pain with different pitches of sound.

i wish i could see auras.

what if someone is acting out of character? does the aura change colour or texture? like for example a normally calm person, what would their aura be like? and what would happen to the aura if said person was acting angry?

  • every one has there one 2 colors cinda mix looking some look like fire some look like water and so on i don't see if they are sad butt throw there color i feel what they feel if thet makes scene like the color is a emoticon window

btw blaze your blood red and grass green talk to you later :D

  • thanks a lot of this video

  • I don't hear smells and such but I do associate letters and numbers with colors. A-red, B-blue, C-yellow, D-purple, E-grey, F-also yellow, G-green, H-yellow again, I-black, J-pine green, K-orange, L-dark green, M-yellow yet again, N-brown, O-white, P-purple or green, Q-pink/purple, R-orange, S-blue, T-black, U-grey, V-rich purple, W-dark green, X-black/dark blue, Y-white or yellow, Z-black. 0-white,1-black, 2-blue, 3-red, 4-yellow, 5-orange/red, 6-dark blue, 7-yellow, 8-purple/green, 9-brown.

  • cool me too.

    A-red B-green C- yellow D-light green

    E-black F-purple G- goo green

    H-orangeish I-white J-gray K-pink L- yellow M- blackish N-blak/brown O- clear P- peach Q- light grey R- orange-brown S- blue T- light blue U-neon green V- light brown W- brown X- grey Y-beige Z-black

    0-clear, 1-white, 2-blue, 3-green, 4-fuchsia, 5-black, 6- yellow-orange, 7- yellow, 8-greenish, 9-beige/light brown

  • what's the name of that electro music in the middle? 2nd song?

  • "A" has always been gold to me. I think it strange that I've thought everyone to have this for so long, and then find out how rare it actually is.

  • When I was listening to the music and thinking of the word A, it brings up as blue...

  • GOSH that is so freakin' cool.

    i'm kind of jealous.

  • A is red, silly!

  • April wants to have a fight! A is red! what is it to you?

  • whenever i touch something i can hear the sound of me touching it no matter how lightly i touch it

  • I have that as well. I also hear colors and lights when I hear music. I HAVE SYNESTHESIA.

  • WHen things are not working I always tend to kow how to fix it and put it back up and working. As for music, I see images in my head and sound waves. I don't understand this at all. Do I have Synaesthesia?

  • yes.
