You're probably choosing the wrong file. You have to choose the .exe, not the 7z.

Frets on Fire X isn't a keylogger or a virus of any kind. Just disable your antivirus when you use it. You should have Avast antivirus.

When I go to quickplay it asks for a song directory and when I select the song folder I created it goes back to the main menu. When I select quickplay again I have to choose the directory again.

Is your song folder named songs and in the directory where it was installed (documents/fofix/data)?

Make sure all of your songs are in there.

This tutorial is Windows only, but the description has directions to download for other systems.

and you will see the drum controls, and you can also change them from there.

You should reinstall it and see if it works, but it might be a graphics problem or it has the wrong screen resolution.

Go to options, graphics, and set your screen resolution and check the box that says fullscreen.

It might be your computer's specifications which could make it slow.

What you should do is go to options in FoFix, and press quickset. You should set the first option to

1 - Max Performance (Not very detailed)

2 - Good Performance (Better Graphics)

Also, you should check to see if it's the song that's causing the problem.

I need info on how you installed it, but this is what you should do:

Make sure that you have winrar and opened it with winrar.

Also make sure that you put the theme folder in

documents/fofix/data/themes

then switch to the theme in fofix.

If it still doesn't work, download it again.

OK make sure that your folder is called songs.

Then make sure you put every file in the folder that you downloaded into a folder inside fofix/data/songs

Also, if you didn't download a whole game, make sure you press quickplay and not career.
