Typical American drama. Jesus!! I worked on this ship in the 90's things like this happened every few months , got hit by a huge water spout sucking deck chairs of the lido, good ole carnival days
I was on this exact cruise. I was at the rear of the ship behind the Panorama Grill. I saw the buoy pop up in our wake. Yes, I was terrified, while it was happening. However, I heard crew members announcing safety instructions during the listing. I saw the entire crew respond immediately and within a couple hours the ship (with the exception of the liquor store and deck tables) was back to normal. Also, there was a huge convention of nurses on board the ship who assisted with care.
Oh the humanity! For pete's sake, cut the drama. This would be overboard (no pun intended) for a junior high school project. You might consider building a panic room inside of a storm shelter, and spend your vacations in there breathlessly re-telling old campfire tales to your kids.

I was on board this ship. Me and my mom were on the top deck on the side that went into the air. My brother was down at the buffet and the coffee machine spilled hot water all over his feet. It was definitly a scary experience, but I don't think it ruined our whole trip. It was a once in a lifetime kind of thing.
The only thing I didn't like was after the listing, the whole rest of the day and night, every time the boat rocked a little, I freaked out haha:)
A friend and I went on this ship from Galveston to Cozumel in October 25-30, 2010. It was an okay cruise but the rocking motion was very constant. The first day, people were walking around like they were drunk. Happened on our way back to Galveston too. I think this ship is supposed to have some stabilizer that lowers the ship in rough waters. But if it did, it didn't feel like it. We also weren't very impressed with on-board activities. Not much to do, and only one club was open at night.
@WarpedTrekker I just went on the dream in april and the rocking motion was very constant too. On my first cruise the only time I remember the ship rocking like that was during a storm. and this time it was ALL the time.
You took ten minutes to share a story that could have been told in less than two. This was very exaggerated given the actual story. You made it sound like a sequel to Poseidon.
OMG, Could you be a bigger drama queen? Could your account of the accident possibly be over exaggerated? This was simply an accident and not the sinking of the Titanic. Sure there were some minor injuries but you make it sound like people were mangled & disfigured..........Carnival took the appropriate action to ensure the safety of their passengers and ship. Get over it queen and work on your "reporting" skills because they SUCK!
You should have been a reporter because you put MAJOR drama on this one...I am the Carnival website everyday on the forums as well as cruise critics and I've read MANY people who were on this cruise who had more positive things to say even the ones WITH injuries.....People are a trip, what if the ship had actually HIT the buoy? what then? Maybe a big gash causing the boat to sink...hmmmm, i'd say these people should be thankful they got home and nothing worse ....
we are going on this cruise on monday- after seeing this video, we CAN'T wait to be on the ecstasy ON x from cozumel!!! this was not a captain error. the boat almost tipped due to the people aboard. did you see that floral FUPA? or the multiple rollie pollies? there was an uneven distribution of weight on board. tell some of the Hagrids aboard to move to the other side in order to avoid another DEVASTATING disaster, as you described above. here's some latin for ya: VERITAS. it means TRUTH.

You have got to be shitting me. OK, so the cruise ship made a sharp turn. Maybe the accident could have been avoided, maybe the cruise staff could have handled it better. Certainly, it was not a good thing. However, you completely overplay the situation, describing tables "ripping themselves from the floor", people "spurting bright red blood", and passengers forced to climb up the wildly tilted deck. I'm sorry, but your account is so overly dramatic that it is impossible to take seriously.
Look, the ship is aimed at AVERAGE joes. It's almost 20 years old, what do you expect out of a 20 year old ship that has racked up millions of nautical miles.
You get what you pay for, it even says it on the carnival website. If you want a better cruise, go on the Conquest, or an entirely different liner all together.
The ship listed 12 degrees according to Carnival Corp. You claim "at least 35 degrees" and in the video 45 degrees. You sir, are full of crap. My god, 12 degrees isn't THAT big of a deal.
I was the man carrying my daughter with the cut up ankles mentioned at the end. I was the first one in the infirmary. I was amazed at how unprepared they were, and how the guests were taking care of all the injured. The Cruise line blew us off when we called, so I hope what actually happened eventually comes out. Did anyone else notice the 2 dark spots on the map on channel 15 the ship was in the middle of when it all happened??
Thanks for coming forward- and yes, I have a photo of the map with those blips on there, and a noticable jig in the travel path of the ship right there at those two blips.
If you have any pictures that you are OK publicizing, please message me.
Dude, you make me want to vomit. I was on the other side of the pool with my 6 year old daughter. And she didn't make as much drama as you have in this vid. Yeah a few people got hurt. But I suppose you would have rather hit the bouy and have the ship be disabled, or worse SINK! You should really be ashamed of yourself. The crew did an amazing job of making sure everyone was ok after this was over. Next time you go on vacation stay in your closet. It'll be safer for you.
I really do believe at $500.00 per person the Carnival should not be put out to sea unless all their equipment is completely working....They should also cover all medical expenses for all those that required medical attention...This ship should have detected that bouy.. I really believe due to their gyroscope malfuctioning it did not ,,, so it seems to be their fault....
Thanks for your comments flowers- Im no ship's engineer, but I think a GyroScope is what keeps the boat level. So, maybe the ship would not have tilted so bad if the gyroscope had not malfunctioned. Sure enough though, dont they have underwater sonar or other collission detection capabilities??
@flowers58 something as low and small as a bouy would either not show up on radar, or would only show up as something the size of a bird. Keep in the this supposed bouy was half submerged so it would have been impossible to see untill it was too late.
we were at the marriage game too and nothing was said about a gyroscope problem of any kind. looks like we should of had a hearing aid convention on board instead of nurses. and to the idiot that claimed i got something from the line to be quite.....what a load...still think they are sue happy
This was my honeymoon cruise and I must admit I will never forget it. My wife and I had a blast and we are definitely going on another cruise. This was a freak accident and on a scale of 1 thru 10 Ten being the highest I give carnival a nine
True enough, we all still had a great time- its unfortunate that our memory of the good time will forever be marked with the drama on the last day. Carnival is a good line- good and affordable. If you really want to do some sailing, there are some superb, high-end cruise lines out there...some even use actual sails...very cool. But for around $500/person? Carnival is still a good time.
It is about time someone told what we ACTUALLY went through. I am so sick of this sugarcoated crap the news is telling people. I was on the top Lido Deck in the Blue Grill and got smashed into by dishes. I have neck and shoulder injuries and had to get catscans and I have been in so much pain!
LOL. It is ashame how some people like this take advantage of situations such as this, to create a public and legal outcry. They had a wonderful cruise, and this was not a serious incident at all.
@Sensenigr ... 60 stitches in your arm,,, I would want them to pay the bill too !!!! they should have had the gyroscope operating properly !!!! My love ones were on board!!!!You would be yelling too if it had happen to you !!!! Especially if you were hurt !!!
@flowers58 I know who you are.......no one you know had 60 stitches in the arm. It was an error. Let it alone. No one got seriously injured....luckily! It is quite a memory and a story to tell. That's all.
@flowers58 You are too funny. Did you create this over dramatic video as well? Oh my gosh. Chill Out. No one was seriously injured and you had a good cruise. If you would have listened and not been worried about making this video, you would have heard the instructions.
You do realize a ship can list by hitting a pocket of air in the water? Im sure it sucked but like others said, it's a bit dramatic. Listing wont breach the hull, hitting something floating in the water, however can
@flowers58 Nope I was not, had just gotten off when you got on, but by watching the video you have put on here, and listening to the interviews of passengers as well as statements made by those passengers on many different cruise forums , its pretty obvious it is not quite how you are trying to make it sound. For so much chaos and panic because everyone was so scared, etc etc, it sure looked calm in your video. Sorry just calling it like I see it.
patty dear ,, this is flowers 58 ,,, I did not make this video so please don't start accusing me... all I did was make comments..and I was not on this cruise ship nor will I ever get on a carnival cruise line ... I stick with NCL ...there the best ... lol.... everybody has the right to comment you know....
@flowers58 no I was not on board ,,,My Daughter, Son in Law and all of his family were on board that Cruise... I will not take a Carnival Cruise myself ... I stick with NCL....
pmaxy, you didnt fear for your son's life? your own life? The stories told here were not just my own families experience- but that of others on the ship who have since sent me their stories by email. Guess you must have been compensated by the cruise lines to keep quiet? I guess if you were a former-POW or something, this experience wasnt scary at all.
What a work of fiction this load is!!! The captain never mentioned anything about a gyroscope or anything like it. This guy is some kind of drama queen. I was there too. I was on the slide deck with my adult son in a wheelchair, quadraplagic. Most of this crap didn't happen. Guess he wants a book deal!! FREAK!
When we were at the newlywed/marriage game! The captain came over the speaker and said something about a gyroscope malfunction. The only reason I know this is because when we received our letter in the cabin that night nothing was mentioned of this. I think this video paints a picture of pure panic and I did not witness this! I am sorry for those who it scared (rightfully so) But I think it has been blown way out of proportion. This was my 1st cruise and CAN NOT WAIT for my 2nd!!!
@pmaxy12 I was on the ship and the captain did state that a gyroscope malfunctioned. First, they stated a buoy, then the malfunction then the bouy again.
Thanks dancinmike - I knew I wasnt crazy. The captain's italian accent was tough to decypher, but he did say that bit about the gyroscope. Hope they got it fixed.

@flowers58 You are too funny. Did you create this over dramatic video as well? Oh my gosh. Chill Out. No one was seriously injured and you had a good cruise. If you would have listened and not been worried about making this video, you would have heard the instructions.

You do realize a ship can list by hitting a pocket of air in the water? Im sure it sucked but like others said, it's a bit dramatic. Listing wont breach the hull, hitting something floating in the water, however can

Story doesn't add up, all the condiments were still on the tables!!!! 2000 other passengers don't seem to remember the event quite like this.

@pattyc090761 were you there ???
flowers58 1 year ago
@flowers58 Nope I was not, had just gotten off when you got on, but by watching the video you have put on here, and listening to the interviews of passengers as well as statements made by those passengers on many different cruise forums , its pretty obvious it is not quite how you are trying to make it sound. For so much chaos and panic because everyone was so scared, etc etc, it sure looked calm in your video. Sorry just calling it like I see it.

pmaxy, you didnt fear for your son's life? your own life? The stories told here were not just my own families experience- but that of others on the ship who have since sent me their stories by email. Guess you must have been compensated by the cruise lines to keep quiet? I guess if you were a former-POW or something, this experience wasnt scary at all.

What a work of fiction this load is!!! The captain never mentioned anything about a gyroscope or anything like it. This guy is some kind of drama queen. I was there too. I was on the slide deck with my adult son in a wheelchair, quadraplagic. Most of this crap didn't happen. Guess he wants a book deal!! FREAK!

@pmaxy12
