@MyGwarren I do believe in God, I happen to be a Roman Catholic and I do like this song. It's just interesting how this song achevied pop success when the majority of Christian Rock songs don't. That being said, I can think of 2 other religiously themed songs that were able to chart just as high as this one did, they are "Spirit in the Sky" by Norman Greenbaum and "Show me the Way" by Styx.

In fact, he's the only music artist in history to be inducted into all big three music hall of fames: The Rock and Roll, The Country and The Gospel. There will never be another artist as diverse or even remotely as influential as Elvis Presley

This was the song we played at my Nanny's funeral; it was perfect, in a way that it can be when saying goodbye to someone that you love. It's such a beautiful song. I'm necessarily a believer in God, but no one can deny the sheer wonder of this song.

The song is so beautiful that i would like to sing it myself in a church. Of course i cant do it the Elvis way but just the feeling when you sing it in a church must be something special.

What a wonderful song, even sing by the best singer the world ever have had and never will get again.Luckily Elvis and his voice will leave forever on tape so generations can hear him over and over again- even 100 years or more from now, and he will stay forever in our hearts. When i say the best singer i mean it in every way you can talk about singing both technical, emotional and performance.

@jessie101ist Hey there Jessie saw your lovely compliments on the King. You obviously know elvis really well. If you get a chance you should check out Dave Lennard hes a new singer songwriter who has been told has very similar tones to the great man. He got rejected for Britains got talent and wasnt even singing an Elvis song. I think because he has done If i can dream alot of people are thinking he is just an impersonator which he is not. Im sure you will be able to tell the difference

This apparently was a big hit and according to wikipedia, it peaked at #3 on the Hot 100. A good song, but since it's a religious song, I don't understand it's success.

@dragonpullman This song was popular in a different time in America. Religion was important to everyone, including teenagers. Church was an important part of our lives and faith was not something to be ashamed of and it was not the "in-your-face" type as has been portrayed in the movies and on television.

@MyGwarren I do believe in God, I happen to be a Roman Catholic and I do like this song. It's just interesting how this song achevied pop success when the majority of Christian Rock songs don't. That being said, I can think of 2 other religiously themed songs that were able to chart just as high as this one did, they are "Spirit in the Sky" by Norman Greenbaum and "Show me the Way" by Styx.

I personally enjoy gospel song because it makes think that God, Jesus Christ, Virgin Mary, Saint Joesph, Saint Michael are with me for all time. Because i'm Catholic Christian. Praise the Lord.
