@JJ388JAr I own a gts and its faster than an si, i will give credit where its due however, the si keeps pretty close until third gear lift then a gts will pull it by a car or two.
stop hating on the 2az you bunch of top end hungry faggots... the 2az has alot more torque than the 2zz which makes it a better motor.. you can make up a ten hp loss by just adding a CAI to a 2az... and u still have more torque.. plus the 5 speed has shorter range gearbox than the one on the 2zz making the tenth gen a faster 0-60.. the 6th gear on the 2zz doesn't do shit.. it's just for fuel economy.. and the 2az itself is lighter than the 2zz making the tenth gen xrs a better handler and bett
the 10th gen is a pig. cant out handle a 9th gen or even a 8th gen. torque doesnt win races. power does which i recall the 2zz having more of. and there's no way a 5speed is better then a 6speed in these applications.

lol... dude with all the incentives (that I qualify for) i could buy a nicely equipped 2010 corolla out the door for just over 15 thousand dollars. Now that's a good deal, even with the 1.8L engine. haha 150mph speedo... watta joke i mean i like toyotas but damn... you know wat i mean

@Rcm8rcM Lol now u'll have to settle for an S, but all the newer Corollas perform around the same so I guess get the S for it's badass looks. I have a 2001 S which was a limited run with Celica parts and that thing hits 60 in 6 seconds stock. Beats the shit out of ANY Si too.
i jus dont get how toyota gets only 158hp out of a 2.4L and then honda gets 197 hp out of there 2.0L in the civic si, for about the same price, why would u buy the toyota???
@bigpapi9643 because they are designed differently. Si is made for high revving, XRS took the engine from the camry I4 for balance of power and efficiency. It's like a towing truck's v8 is different than a sports car's v8. They are designed for different purposes. Mind you, Si has more hp but far less torque than XRS and the former uses premium fuel while latter uses regular. n they are most certainly not same price. Si is around 29k CAD XRS is ~24k
Im a fan of toyotas but they were never really bent on going fast......
back in 2005 they had a 1.8l enging that produced 180 hp and got 36mpg highway...... and a special edition tuned 1.8l that had 190 hp which got 33mpg.....
and no niether engine is superchared or turboed, just uses the same concept of vtech, just more fuel efficient...... lol
they have the technology but they choose not to use it.....
each engine has different designs, you'll be surprised how much power you can get from diff. sized exhaust and intake ports along with cams, head size etc. There's alot that can factor into it. A benefit with a bigger liter engine, is that you'll get more power from an air intake and exhaust, since the engine can suck in more air and expel more exhaust. Of course with the honda your starting out at a MUCH higher out put so you don't really need bolt on performance.
Honda is a very highly stressed motor running at very high RPM. The totota 2.4 has loads more torque at low to medium RPMs which most people use for normal driving. Why buy the toyota, the honda is more like a high revving car that has no power at all at low to medium RPMs. Try the corolla and you will see its more like a small muscle car power wise.
Its called a big engine with torque. The honda has to rev itself to death to make ANY power. Try the corolla, and you will find it much more responsive and powerful off the line...the honda engine is on or off.....its the weak engine. Torque is where the power is at, NOT horsepower. If it mattered toyota would just make a similar engine as honda.
@kevintomb 2.4 liters is not a big engine. The civic Si is the faster car in general. It's lighter and has an LSD to help it off the line. Plus better gearing and more horsepower, and nearly equivalent amounts of torque. Which is why it is the faster car to drive. I love toyota don't get me wrong, but you're barking up the wrong side of the tree with this argument. The Civic wins hands down.
@bigpapi9643 Toyota doesn't make cars for performance anymore. The Corolla XRS is just a watered down Scion tC now. They joined the safety and reliability boat which is why they're the world's number one automaker (the recent pedal issue actually raised sales from what i hear). People buy the toyota because they don't want something like the civic which is slightly impractical as a daily driver.
@sleepisyummy toyota is boring, i rather hav sumthing more fun, and they have always been safe and reliable till there recent fuck up wit the pedals and floor mats, there not safe anymore
@bigpapi9643 They're still safe and still reliable. It's a simple fix to the pedal issue and the floormat thing is because people were using aftermarket mats and not the stock ones...the hook on the floor is there for a reason...just because a company has problems it doesnt tarnish the reliability and safety of their production line. There's a fix for both the problems you named.
@bigpapi9643 honda makes more power out of it cuz they rev higher (8k) and the 2.4L isnt even a performance engine its an economy based engine. the old engine in the xrs was much like the honda engines high revving with valve lift technology. I have a corolla sportivo (with the same engine as celica gts) its a 1.8L with about 200hp and its near stock i only have exhaust and intake
@bigpapi9643 The difference is torque. Toyota has more torque than Honda. Honda's have finely tuned high revving beasts with light internals. Toyota has torque-y heavy forged internals so the engine doesn't rev as high but produces more grunt. In the end, even with less horsepower, they're just about dead even because of the differences. Just different strokes for different folks.
@bigpapi9643 its the ecu! iv tuned a 2.4l with a stand alone ecu and got about 210 hp out of it! the OEM ecu is tuned for economy not for performance!
@bigpapi9643 because theres a lot of torque, and once you take off all the "safety features" its a beast, like they have loose mounts for comfort, as for honda si, they made it so it has power... this car is ment for power and comfort but you cant have both.
@bigpapi9643 here's a little formula to help you understand I=M(K x K). I is Torque M is Mass (or energy from the combustion) and K is the radius of gyration. HP based engines tend to have larger bores and shorter strokes. therefore K is a smaller value. and as K is squared AND multiplied by the energy imparted in the piston....long story short it shud put u in the back of ur seat. dump that 2.4 or the K20 into something the same weight, prob same results, but i bet the 2.4s more efficient....
@bigpapi9643 i dont own neither one but ive seen many vids of corollas raping SI's i guess thats why ppl buy it, and they are not about the same price they almost 4k apart, and if thats the case why would someone get a SI when you could get a ralliart or a wrx which are almost 4k apart from the civic and way way faster?
@bigpapi9643 Toyota's going green now that's why. SUCKS! The old Xrs's 1.8 was beast but had HORRIBLE emissions. I suppose it's due to the motor made my Yamaha. The new Toyota 2.4 is gay i agree
@bigpapi9643 Haha umm maybe its cause it produces 162 ft/lb of torque where as the honda produces like 6 and a half. Plus its more reliable and you don't get dirty looks from people because you drive a shitty civic.
@Tyutyunnik actually Toyota in recent years been criticized on their quality and reliability, so not necessarily a valid point. Torque does matter, but depends on configuration and setup.
@bigpapi9643 The 2009 civic si is about 3 to 4k more expensive than the 09 corolla xrs. So, you're paying for that extra hp either way. Ntm, toyota will probably come out with lots more upgrades for the xrs engine within next couple years so adding more power won't be an issue.
@bigpapi9643 Im not sure where he got 2.4 from. But the Corolla XRS comes with a 1.8L. After looking at dyno sheets u will see y the corolla is so fast. Comparing it to a K20A which has .2L extra displacement, so it has a TRQ adding handicap already over the corolla. @2500 XRS = roughly 115TRQ all the way straight across to 5000RPM, The K20 doesnt even make 100TRQ until 5500... So torque is a HUGE handicap for the K20 which is supposed to be a bigger engine. They both make power to about 8400
@bigpapi9643 learn a bit about motor .... the 2.4 have a way better torque , easier to use everyday. can be upgrade without exploding . not a oil lover like honda.... honda is for yong girl .... lol
@bigpapi9643 yeah dude but, the civic motor only has 139 ft/lbs torque, the toyota has 162 ft/lbs. the extra 23 ft/lbs makes a huge difference. i got a 09 tc, same 2.4 as the corolla but 3 more hp stock and the tc's version puts out 162 torque, u can really feel the difference over the lower torque honda motors
a friend of mine has a scion TC boosted with 310whp... nothing crazy on stock internals... he gets 22mpg and and has been blown for the past 59k miles!!!... that impresses me more then anything!
the 2AZ in the Rav4 makes a bit more power than the one in the XRS and I dont think Toyota built the 2AZ with the same intent that Nissan did with the QR25, or Honda with the K20, I totally hear you on the performance part but I dont think its as bad as most think compared to the last gen and as for the spec-v that thing is really in a class of its own, the old one anyway, I do think the XRS needs more performance, more power and to be lower, but other than that its a fine family car lol!!!
I feel you dude... but what turns people off of the Spec-V is that solid rear axle... basically its another alternative... if they give it to much power it cuts into the scion TC market which alot more tuners go after because of the fan base. Its very simple to see why Toyota gave it the power that it did
Yah its a nice touch to have someone to talk to who is generally knowledgeable about the automotive worl... In my 2002 camry with a weight of 3080 with new RE960as Pole Positions on... I've hit 60 in 7.1 seconds with a clutch burning launch. and thats me with a stock car stock rims and K&N drop in which is a POS... the torque helps these cars alot of the line but overall they are slouches compared to others in there classes mainly due to the lower truck like redline...
holy crap, that's not bad at all. You're probably 15.5-16.0 in a stock "grandpa" mobile there ;).
I do love torque and that is why I thoroughly enjoy the QR, it really is a four cylinder that feels like a V-6 (of yesterday). Today's v-6s are disgustingly powerful!
its not about the redline as it doesnt keep making power passed 6200-6500rpm. what it needs is a higher compression ratio for more hp(and then perhaps higher redline).. and tq would go up as well
torque is what gets ur car moving from stand still, not horse power. Torque just about has as much to do with racing as horsepower does. If this wasn't true than I wouldnt have a chance against an old XRS Matrix. The old one is a faster car, no doubt. But, yesterday night I went back and forth with an 04 Matrix XRS, I would win a race then he would, I dont think I could even touch him in a 1/2 mile, but a 1/4 mile race could go either way, and like I said, my car is 400lbs heavier. Notasfuntho
yes, it's peak power vs. area under the curve. On the streets, area under the curve wins/keeps up. On the track where you have straight-up acceleration to the end, peak power always wins.
Everyone always talks about the last gen XRS, I have a friend who has one.I just bought a 2010 Matrix XRS and I took it out to race him. True, the old gen XRS is faster, but not by much. The new XRS is 400lbs heavier, has no lift and has 5hp less than and 30lbs torque more, if that thing weighed the same as the old XRS I think the new one would be quicker, at least in the quarter mile. Old one has a higher top speed.I stand by my purchase though, anyone has a prob with that, they can lick my nuts
With or without lift the new corolla and matrix (be it xrs or not) are slower then the previous generation. and the new XRS' couldnt touch their previous gen counterparts because they have camry engines.thats the same reason a Tc cant beat a last gen XRS. torque doesnt win races. power does.
Man, whatever happened to VVTL-i and that beautiful sound of Valve Lift once reaching that 67-6800 rpm mark?? This thing is trash in performance compared to the 1.8L VVTL-i engine. But hey it still goes good for a environmentally friendly car.
check out my corolla s 2010 k&n intake system, revs sound real nice and a lot of them

@bigpapi9643 Celica gts is faster...

@bigpapi9643 its the ecu! iv tuned a 2.4l with a stand alone ecu and got about 210 hp out of it! the OEM ecu is tuned for economy not for performance!
aruba1990 1 year ago
@bigpapi9643 because theres a lot of torque, and once you take off all the "safety features" its a beast, like they have loose mounts for comfort, as for honda si, they made it so it has power... this car is ment for power and comfort but you cant have both.
TheOfficialSnowFlake 1 year ago

@bigpapi9643 answer - Torque
Imreadingthisaloud 9 months ago
@bigpapi9643 answer - Torque
ANY Vtec, Mivec or VVTl-i engine has large bore, short stroke. Heres a little equation for you
I = M(K x K)
I is basically torque, K which is exponential to power is the stroke. M being the energy from the bang.
bigger stroke, exponential increase in torque
Simples!
Imreadingthisaloud 9 months ago
@bigpapi9643 Haha umm maybe its cause it produces 162 ft/lb of torque where as the honda produces like 6 and a half. Plus its more reliable and you don't get dirty looks from people because you drive a shitty civic.

@Tyutyunnik actually Toyota in recent years been criticized on their quality and reliability, so not necessarily a valid point. Torque does matter, but depends on configuration and setup.
JTSX1 7 months ago
@JTSX1 Reliability and quality has nothing to do with the argument that was made.
Tyutyunnik 7 months ago
@JTSX1 Yeah torque does matter. As in my SpecV has wary more torque than this stupid "XRS".

MyOscarMeyerIsOnFire 7 months ago
@bigpapi9643 true with hp.... but remember the toyota has more torque. hp isnt everything
jznsx69 7 months ago 11
@bigpapi9643 Im not sure where he got 2.4 from. But the Corolla XRS comes with a 1.8L. After looking at dyno sheets u will see y the corolla is so fast. Comparing it to a K20A which has .2L extra displacement, so it has a TRQ adding handicap already over the corolla. @2500 XRS = roughly 115TRQ all the way straight across to 5000RPM, The K20 doesnt even make 100TRQ until 5500... So torque is a HUGE handicap for the K20 which is supposed to be a bigger engine. They both make power to about 8400
34SkiLLz14Luck 7 months ago
@bigpapi9643 learn a bit about motor .... the 2.4 have a way better torque , easier to use everyday. can be upgrade without exploding . not a oil lover like honda.... honda is for yong girl .... lol
marcorodamien 6 months ago
@bigpapi9643 yeah dude but, the civic motor only has 139 ft/lbs torque, the toyota has 162 ft/lbs. the extra 23 ft/lbs makes a huge difference. i got a 09 tc, same 2.4 as the corolla but 3 more hp stock and the tc's version puts out 162 torque, u can really feel the difference over the lower torque honda motors
skipdafer 6 months ago
@skipdafer Yeah and it's all still less horsepower AND torque than my Sentra SE-R Spec-V.

@pcfxer yeah and they both have way less hp and torque then my 72 camaro

a friend of mine has a scion TC boosted with 310whp... nothing crazy on stock internals... he gets 22mpg and and has been blown for the past 59k miles!!!... that impresses me more then anything!

the 2AZ in the Rav4 makes a bit more power than the one in the XRS and I dont think Toyota built the 2AZ with the same intent that Nissan did with the QR25, or Honda with the K20, I totally hear you on the performance part but I dont think its as bad as most think compared to the last gen and as for the spec-v that thing is really in a class of its own, the old one anyway, I do think the XRS needs more performance, more power and to be lower, but other than that its a fine family car lol!!!

oh man? new xrs sucks wtf?
BlooDxxv 2 years ago 8
yahh but the 2az has more torque but the 2zz was a more live engine
omairtheman1 2 years ago
Yeah but the QR25 has been making more torque than the 2AZ for years.
pcfxer 2 years ago
i wasn't comparing the QR25 at all...
omairtheman1 2 years ago
I'm just unimpressed with the new XRS. It costs as much as an Si and has NONE of the performance of either the Si or the Spec-V.
The torque argument from Toyota is moot because the Spec-V has made more power and torque than the 2AZ has ever dreamed of.
pcfxer 2 years ago
I feel you dude... but what turns people off of the Spec-V is that solid rear axle... basically its another alternative... if they give it to much power it cuts into the scion TC market which alot more tuners go after because of the fan base. Its very simple to see why Toyota gave it the power that it did
omairtheman1 2 years ago
Ahhhh, I didn't even think of the Tc. We (canucks) don't get Scion until next year so that little tid bit left my mind.
I'm impressed, there are people on youtube that I can have a legitimate discussion with (Y)!

Yah its a nice touch to have someone to talk to who is generally knowledgeable about the automotive worl... In my 2002 camry with a weight of 3080 with new RE960as Pole Positions on... I've hit 60 in 7.1 seconds with a clutch burning launch. and thats me with a stock car stock rims and K&N drop in which is a POS... the torque helps these cars alot of the line but overall they are slouches compared to others in there classes mainly due to the lower truck like redline...
omairtheman1 2 years ago
holy crap, that's not bad at all. You're probably 15.5-16.0 in a stock "grandpa" mobile there ;).
I do love torque and that is why I thoroughly enjoy the QR, it really is a four cylinder that feels like a V-6 (of yesterday). Today's v-6s are disgustingly powerful!
pcfxer 2 years ago
its not about the redline as it doesnt keep making power passed 6200-6500rpm. what it needs is a higher compression ratio for more hp(and then perhaps higher redline).. and tq would go up as well
viper2788 2 years ago
torque is what gets ur car moving from stand still, not horse power. Notasfuntho
jblondeau82 2 years ago
yes, it's peak power vs. area under the curve. On the streets, area under the curve wins/keeps up. On the track where you have straight-up acceleration to the end, peak power always wins.
All things being equal..
pcfxer 2 years ago
doesnt matter lol.. its not like ur always gunna be going fast.. tha cops will take care of ya lol

101alva 2 years ago
Everyone always talks about the last gen XRS, I have a friend who has one.I just bought a 2010 Matrix XRS and I took it out to race him. True, the old gen XRS is faster, but not by much. The new XRS is 400lbs heavier, has no lift and has 5hp less than and 30lbs torque more, if that thing weighed the same as the old XRS I think the new one would be quicker, at least in the quarter mile. Old one has a higher top speed.I stand by my purchase though, anyone has a prob with that, they can lick my nuts
jblondeau82 2 years ago 2
hahahaha well said
pjlaw88 2 years ago
With or without lift the new corolla and matrix (be it xrs or not) are slower then the previous generation. and the new XRS' couldnt touch their previous gen counterparts because they have camry engines.thats the same reason a Tc cant beat a last gen XRS. torque doesnt win races. power does.

Man, whatever happened to VVTL-i and that beautiful sound of Valve Lift once reaching that 67-6800 rpm mark?? This thing is trash in performance compared to the 1.8L VVTL-i engine. But hey it still goes good for a environmentally friendly car.
