All these great comments about good tempered Akitas is wonderful! My breeder only bred her top 10% of dogs, fixing the rest for pets. She does what not enough people do, keep the dogs with the best traits breeding. That is point of dog breeding, using only the tallest Great Danes, shortest Daschunds and Pit Bulls with sweet temperaments, etc.

My Akitas are definitely food motivated. They are also very sociable, friendly, out-going, and loving, even with kids. They really aren't stubborn, either; a few "no"s and they stop trying. Honestly, what I've read about Akitas really doesn't apply to mine. I think it's the perfect example of nurture vs nature. That is not to say that there aren't Akitas they are aloof and stubborn, just that mine definitely are not.

@fightTHEfaith I have 2 male akitas and they aren't food motivated at all, they'd rather have play as a reward. Really excitable too. I think that to say that all Akitas are stubborn is like saying all black people can rap. You just can't categorise and generalise that way. Just sayin :)

@lauramae7 I definitely agree! We tried to not let them be food motivated, but trying to reward them with play was like telling them we were done training. They lost interest immediately if we rewarded with play.

@Jackson0131 Mine adore attention. They stand up on the fence for people to pet them. They are also very loving. My male akita cannot get enough of lap laying and the female just wants to sit next to me with her head in my lap.

Very very very well done. I adopted an Akita 3 years ago.  They really are very special dogs! Not for everyone, but for the right folks, simply, "The Best".

in ur descrition it said thay thought the dog looked like a bear i gotta an akita and the scaner i got said that there was a bears in the neighbor hood and it was my dog zena she was outside lol it was soo funny..!!

Thank you for that great video! I got my first Akita 3 years ago and he is the most loyal dog I ever had! Great around people, kids and other animals including horses. All my friends love him and always want to dogsitter him! I even got a puppy Akita for my best friend birthday and she is also smart and have a such wonderful personality!

I highly recomend this breed of dogs! You will have a loyal and protective friend for the rest of dog life!

My Akita, Raiden is so lovin, loyal, and funny as hell! He makes me and my wife smile every day. When one of us gets home from work he is always sitting in the window waiting patiently for us to get home, when one comes home he wants to play and get his pettin, then goes aand waits in the window for the other one to get home so the puppy party can begin!
