Snap, crackle, pop! I love how you can hear the lifters clacking away over the racket of the exhaust. SS/A and SS/AA are where it's at. No Chevy ever sounded this good. Anyone else catch the No Barton sticker? ;) Too bad he tagged the wall with it last year.
I remember Raceway Park in the summer of 1968. It was the year of the HEMI! You had to be there! To bad most of you little shits weren't even born yet!!! What a MOFO summer! LMAO!!!
Fear Nothing. Especially an illconcieved SOHC phord! The chain drives were junk and the gear drives fell apart from the harmonics. Funny thing is,,I dont see ANY fords run in SS/AA or it's equivelant
@airfueleddie How many SOHC 427's have you worked on? They built it one year and fully developed it from start to finish in ohhhhh about 90 days...You have 3 in your garage right?
@airfueleddie That's simple. When the Barracudas and Darts came out in 1968, they were originally classified as SS/B and SS/BA. When the domination became evident, NHRA reclassified them and them only into SS/A and SS/AA. Now they are classified SS/AH (A Hemi), which is limited exclusively to 68 Barracudas and Darts equipped with Hemis.
The only non-MoPar i would really ''fear'' if i would have a car like that back then and raced, would be an Ford Falcon 65- with the 427 SOHC engine, only non-MoPar i would fear, sure there are other race-engines, but i think that in most cases, the 427 SOHC ''Cammer'' would be the one you should fear most at drag, if the opponent had one against your Hemi Dart/Barracuda 68´.
The SOHC Ford is not and never has been legal for superstock racing like this Barracuda is. They only ran in the A/FX and B/FX factory experimental cars which later evolved into funny cars.
@Eddiemotor to get that rumble, you take playing cards and a clothes pin and bend the cards over a special bracket...then put the clothes pin on the cards to hold them in place and you let the fan blades hit the cards...presto...you get the rumble... :o)
@Eddiemotor big cam with lots of compression, the large overlap of the cam dampens the sound a little.this most likly is running open headers, muffler technology has come along way though, some cars run times close to the same they have with there headers uncapped.

How does one get a rumble that sounds like that?
Open headders?
Eddiemotor 3 years ago
It's an NHRA "Super Stock" race car so whatever mechanical rules they have for this class is what the exhaust setup would follow.
bikertom98 3 years ago
Well, it's a very nice sound no doupt^^
NHRA superstock is awesome =)
