highway cruise, vtec engagement is almost completely unnoticeable, can bog much lower, no more embarrassing startups when trying to not burn the clutch from a stop. sounds smoother (not quieter like some have said, full open throttle in vtec still sounds like vtec).
i haven't dynoed it, but it gave me more than my intake or my headers. i used to cruise on freeway by how open the throttle was, while i was engaged in a conversation i found myself doing 95 with what felt like 70 (when it was new)
yep I love mine, don't race it any more but it's even better for daily driving, the low end tq increase is very nice for just pulling away from stop signs, don't have to feather the clutch any more.. wish I had got it years ago (2002 RSX-S bought new, put the reflash in 2009, also AEM V2 and a custom cat-back exhaust - CA car passes smog np)
@jaxrrevox Nope he was in 2nd gear at the turn, then you can see his right hand in the reflection push it forward into first, which equated to 3,000rpms when he downshifted and started the pull. Pull is 1st thru 4th. Plus, I have the same car :). And I love it :D
Also, this generation RSX-S will run lean with a race header, WITH OR WITHOUT THE RE-FLASH. I'm not sure why more people don't know this, but I see people putting a header on these "2nd gen" RSX-S's all the time. It's just not worth it to have inspection & reliability issues. For the money you already got the two best mods. The exhaust will make a noticeable difference though and the Hondata IMG will create better consistency and power by removing heat soak issues with the intake manifold.
If you slap a cat-back exhaust and the Hondata IMG on this car, you will be set. I suggest the Buddy Club Pro-Spec (NOT THE SPEC III, I mean the Pro-Spec). It's a wonderful exhaust for the RSX-S. They've quieted it down a good bit compared to the Prelude version, it sounds BEAUTIFUL. I convinced my friend to get one for his RSX-S and it sounds so amazing. Better than anything else I've heard honestly and very livable day to day. Then you should leave it alone and enjoy the reliable power! :)
See, I don't think mods that make you drive around with a CEL are worth it in a nice modern car. Just sacrifice the 5hp you would have gained with your race header, save the environment a bit and ensure that you will easily pass inspection. K-Pro is nice if you have someone you can trust to tune it, but the gains aren't that significant without internal mods. The re-flash is all 95% of people need and often K-Pro makes the car less reliable long term due to an overly aggressive tune.
That is pulling REALLY strong. I often tell people to just get the reflash, cat-back, intake & Hondata Intake Manifold Gasket. With those mods the car has excellent consistency, driveability, reliability, silky smooth power delivery and it's much quicker, even if you don't feel it initially. The VTEC transition and torque curve have been smoothed out so much that power delivery is more subtle, but it's SIGNIFICANTLY faster with those basic & inexpensive mods and it still passes inspection! :)
(uploader) It's not a huge gain in horse power. The reflash really just takes off some of the conservativeness in the stock engine mapping. You feel it much more in the low end torque, and the pull is much smoother. Since Honda's have no torque, any gain there is noticeable. :) The link in the description will show you everything they do to the map.
