If i this were a Persian instrument, it would have been called "Sad-tar". The words "san" and "tur" do not exist in Persian.

عزف رائع. هذه الآلة ضاربة في تاريخ بىلاد ما بين النهرين و بلاد فارس. و قد كانت تعزف أيام نبوخذ نصر في العراق. أتمني أن أسمع صوت هذه الآلة في شوارع مدن العراق عازفة سمفونية السلام و المحبة بين أبناء هذا الشعب الشقيق. أننا نتطلع ليوم ترف فيه أجنحة خمائم السلام البيضاء على كل ربوع العراق و العالم العربي.

I agree, No difference where is it from... we play violin and piano which is from west but we play in our style, I recommend you to hear some santoor from Iranian expert which is in "Youtube", You just need to type "santoor شهریار", and have a look to related videos, they are playing very nice but little bit different style.

Dear milad747sp, I think that regardless of where this instrument the Santur originates from, I think that it will definitly be nice to appreciate good music from good musicians, wheather they play instruments from there own culture or wheather they play instruments of a different culture, e.g. you could play piano or electric guitar better than any body else in the west, it is humanly possible. And just to add to my comment,In Babylon (historical Iraq) this instrument's name was (Belsandeero).

Dear milad747sp, thank you for your comment. I think that there are different opinions about where the santur originated from in the first place, some historians would say its Babylonian(Iraqi) and some would say it's Persian(Iranian) and some would say it's Indian. It's the same case with the Oud which the persians call -Barbat-. There's a debate about everything thing in this life where it originates from, and what effect it has on humanity.
