  • Warren long life to you!!

  • best tune ever posted

  • Wonder if Hayes has been listenin to some David Gilmour? =)

  • 7:30 dave says " He is mad!!!" awesome!

  • The first time I've ever heard this song was years ago when I bought the DVD. I still haven't heard the original, and I probably never will. I love this one too much to care!

  • This song makes my day better, especially when Warren plays.

Thank you Warren for your existing.

  • 5 (of 158848) people think Justin Bieber is music!

  • STUPENDI!!!!!!!!!

  • Neil Young is undeniably amazing, however I am very skeptical that there is a better played version of this song than this one. If there is, please point me in the right direction... because I have to hear it.

  • @NASSERP2 when you found out, please FW it to me also ;-)

  • @NASSERP2 mt dont have to look cause there aint one

  • nice version done respectfully, but way too technical and clean. might as well have dave gilmour on stage as well. dirty that lead up warren.

  • absolutely amazing

  • Everybody, watch my new acapella version of Let's Groove by Earth, Wind & Fire in my chanel !! Peace... :-))

  • Whilst this is a good version of Cortez, there is only one man who plays and sings this as it was meant to be, and that is the songwriter Mr Young ....and I'm sure these guys recognise it too. Maybe they did the cover as respect for Neil.

  • я He слышy что угодно похожий варэн хаинс

  • its great but neil is the man its his song

  • 4:23 eargasm

  • this song is a poem come to life with the musical touch of true legends. warren is inspiring.

  • Warren is amazing but no one does this better than Neil Young

  • @eldiablo36mg no way. neil young is good but this song is deff better with grumbly gravelly voices like dave and warren

  • I love me!!

  • Well done, but can anyone even hear Matthews guitar? A better version of this song might be by Grace Potter and Joe Satriani.

  • @oscartmic first time You can hear it clearly at 0:51 ....I bet You cant also hear when bass guitar plays ;p

  • @RoZyk007 Yes you are right, his playing really makes this song

  • @oscartmic satch is great but the trumpet player drowns him out. and grace better than dave? no way. this song needs a deep powerful voice. she is good but same with neil young it sounds better low.

  • @Moongoose86 To each his own my friend. Warren and Dave are great but I still would prefer Grace's voice and Satriani's playing anyday.

  • iam not shittin no one but this might be the best song of all time..... Matthews, W. Haynes and composed by Mr. Young...................

  • @nfldmurray yes you are right best ever cant stop playing it he came dancing across the water

  • Dave Matthews should start using a Gibson.

  • @davec3487 well said

  • Good God!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think he says "that's bad" ... as in amazing...

  • Cool backdrop but enough is enough. For the first two minutes when theyre both killing it, the cameras focused on...the skyline. fuck that. Let me see em play.

  • 4 dislikes???? How'd the lady gag gag fans find this??

  • The 4 who gave a thumbs down must be under 12 or blind, deaf and DUMB !! This is one of the best videos I have EVER had the pleasure of hearing ~ I was not a DMB fan til now... Warren Haynes, well, have a whole new respect for now !

  • how drunk is the girl at 3:03 ish ahahaha

  • @mignelli14 See the person behind her :DD

  • when was this played

  • i love Dave's look of awe around 7:32

  • Wow, that guitarist his phrasing was terrible.

  • @xTiLkx you're kidding right?

  • @Munch83eh OK "terrible" is overstating it but it's def not good. I mean cmon, man, he's barely muting his unplayed strings.

  • @xTiLkx I agree, I was actually thinking the same thing. Check out the version with Grace Potter and Joe Satriani. Absolutely no phrasing issues in that version whatsoever (how could there be? lol)

  • @Lynxwound Well duh, it's Satch lol

  • @xTiLkx I actually came here from the Potter/Satch version, and I like this one as well. Warren and Satch are from different schools, but I admire both of them. It all depends on my mood, I suppose.

  • Warren should have kept singing. Dave's voice is irritating to say the least.

  • I would like Dave Matthews but that would mean I would have to buy some burkenstocks and love shitty music Thanks for killing a good song

  • Just when I thought I couldn't dislike dave matthews any more, I come across this! This guy and his band are just terrible. If he ceased to exist, music in the world would be better.

  • Warren such a beautiful soul!

  • I could of done without the artistic shots of NYC. I would of much rather watched Warren that entire time ( maybe with some dave sprinkled in ) :)

  • Warren Haynes - Best guitarist of today!

  • @minotipo16 That is laughable.

  • Best live performance ever

  • Beautiful.

  • magic, indeed...

  • i think my face just melted

  • unreal

  • I love this shit - we need to bring rock n roll back to the masses , and good music in general - Fuck this pop miley cyrus , justin bieber shit , this is music

  • @Eloopa1000 BRAVO....

  • somebody give Dave a new shirt

  • Hottie at 5:48!

  • this performance is the essence of rock. a great feeling and an extraordinary force, and ....are only three chords Em7 D Am7

  • this the best music song ever writen in blues

  • what a great guitar piece................................................................................................................................................................kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk...................ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • I have to admit that I was one of the few who voted thumbs down. I can not support this for if this goes on, the universe is going to collapse under the unrelenting and exhausting awesomeness of this performance.

  • @Ylviste my tits

  • David Gilmore lol

  • I can't play guitar very good but i've dedicated all my guitar time to learning this song, listened to this in my teen years even though it was older than me it was the perfect mix of sadness and strength. love this song and warren hayne takes this performance, love dave but you didn't need to sing bro, warren had it. listen to his performance of soulshine on opie and anthony it's fantastic.

  • Great mother-in-law rock - surely makes NO-ONE uncomfortable (whereas Neil Young just... may?)

  • και γαμώ τις κηθάρες / awesome solo

  • thats some trippy shit

  • I think i fell in love with the girl at 5:51

  • He came dancing accross the water,

    Cortez, Cooooooortez,

    What a killer!

I love these lyrics so much...

  • @AupaPeps dancing across the water for sure mt its pure quailty

  • "Beautiful" absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!!

  • these cats rocked Neil....a magical rendition.

  • 07:32 - "He´s fat"

  • @apstalle na he says bad ass not hes fat

  • Congratulations to all... over 100 000 viewers :-))))))

  • @pilidov thanks for the post man

  • que linda a cidade á noite!!!!!

  • Muzyka łączy nie dzieli perfect song yee

  • Nothing wrong with this cover - but never calling Cortez "the Killer" during the song sort of misses the point.

  • They all must've had a Neil Young blood transfusion before the show...

    perfect

you have to approach this song like your fingers are bleeding from playing all night, your voice is in tatters, John Lennon got shot today, you're not sure if she'll stay...

...the stars are fu@#ing extinguished, and the sky has a dagger of light in it because the sunrise is just around the corner...

  • I like the guitar playing on this way more than the one with Satriani...

  • @CharlieKendallMusic just came here from that version, couldn't agree more. Satch is great, but he's too technical and contained to play a Neil Young lead line. These guys probably can't shred like him, but they turn out a better song.

  • @noushi Man it doesn't even matter if they can shred like him or not. Music is about playing with soul and that's not what playing at 50000 bpm is haha

  • @CharlieKendallMusic perhaps so, but don't be like everyone else and ignorantly think playing fast automatically means you have no "soul"

  • @MarcusFenixtheMan No there are definitely times where it's good to play some fast licks, but you can't do it all the time

  • @noushi disagree

  • gawd man this shit is beyond epic... props Neil Young ur a legend

  • Comment removed

  • Shit....this is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen....The musical genius of Neil Young being so well represented by modern day musicians... Amazing performance!!!!

  • look at 7:31 when Dave says to the drummer "he's mad" (talking about Warren) ^^

  • This is woeful, out of tune guitar, vocals downright pathetic a local pub band could and would do a better version of it.Sounds like a anemic eagles cover band.

  • @ScouseTapas Holy shit mon, you have a tin ear. I'll give you Fwad of the day award for your clueless critique though. Nice job.

  • @ScouseTapas Your mother is an anus.

  • Girl at 5.50, you' re beautiful! =D

  • @Ghraladean ..... totally agree! Super cute with the pigtails.

  • Every damn bit of this performance is fantastic! Hatalmas! :)

  • AAAAAAH! MUST DOWNLOAD!!!!! can anyone share a link? please!

  • Awesome version!

I like how at @7:32 during Warren Haynes' solo Dave turns to Carter (drummer) and says "He's amazing".

  • @RELDude He says "He's Bad" as in....Amazing!! :)

  • @RELDude so many beautiful things going on here

  • Great song! Anyone know who wrote it originally?

  • @Webdragon220 Neil Young

  • @Webdragon220

    That would be Neil Young.

  • well fuck me, that was fantastic

  • morroida vai tomar no cu

  • definitely a good cut but I think its pretty hard to do any better than Grace Potter and Joe Satriani..

  • @caldavis33 I love this one too, but thumbs up for yer comment! :)

  • what

  • Music as it should be!!!!

  • is it just me or is boyd always fuckin it up when he's not jammin??

  • WOW SO BLUESY! KIND REMND ME OF PINK FLOYD ATLEAST THE INTRO ATLEAST!

  • WOW SO BLUESY! KIND REMND ME OF PINK FLPYD ATLEAST THE INTRO ATLEAST!

  • @jstew345 its a neil young cover but I feel yah floyd rules

  • WOW ASO BLUESY I LOVE IT!

  • Best cover of this song I've ever seen. This is music that cleanses the soul and clears the mind, Absolutely a masterpiece.

  • 8:17

  • how awful warren haynes is? Put down that pipe.

  • If you can't write, be a critic. If you can't play, be a critic. If you don't like what you hear, change the station.

  • they actually are very talented. i used to hate them but i respect them now.

  • YES! loved it , thanks for posting !

  • Is Dave saying "Amazing" at 07:34, isn't he ?

  • @Michicho92 i think so, warren is amazing in this.

  • Such a great job of Neil's song!! Love Neil and you know these guys are greats too!!♥♫ Outasight!!

  • Ahhhhh REAL musicians!!

  • i can't even begin to put into words how amazing this song is....

  • Sickest shit that ever was

  • Comment removed

  • @tearvialfilms Althou I somewhat like Warren Haynes, I deffo agree with you.

  • @tearvialfilms

So you believe that they haven't made something great after having been inspired by a fellow artist? Again, they aren't trying to replicate his song or his style. In fact, they took it to their own level, adding aspects and taking others out. Comparing apples and oranges, you are, my friend. Try to see (listen rather) it for what is is now, today, right in front of you. Neil isn't singing this song, Dave Matthews and Warren Haynes are.

  • @tearvialfilms great call tearvial matthews and haynes just dilute what neil wrote. I do not understand the attraction for dave matthews either. Its boring, redundant and unambitious. Matthews picked a song way above his limited ability to cover, only artist I have heard that does a neil young song justice is roy buchanan playing down by the river. That tune really puts into perspective just how awful warren haynes is.

  • and wot about Neil, dears??

  • Warren is so cool!!!!

  • Yeah, yeah, blah blah, but i wished i was there at that moment. Beautiful.

Just a flowing kick and trip at the time. Musicians understand that.

    Just beautifull.

    G

  • well what can i say warren haynes is massively inferior to neil young and does dave matthews ever not sound like a fruit tart?

  • @notoriodtc why even watch it then?

  • @kadleckyle: Because people have to be keyboard warriors on youtube constantly.

@notoriodtc: Chill out and enjoy the music.

  • Warren Haynes, yea!! Great solos!

  • Is Dave reading the words?

  • @davehoganmusic

He is not reading the words, but it's the way he plays. He put's a lot of feeling into his songs, so he is closing his eyes, making the song meaningful to him. But I see what you mean

  • Might just be the best tone ever

  • Simply an insanely amazing version!

  • maybe neil young even likes it? Its his.....

  • wow.... this is great....

  • Dave Matthews sounds so awkward singing this song... stand back and let Warren belt it.

  • That 1 dislike better have either been a slip of the hand or because of Dave's annoying rhythm playing.

  • OMG!!!!!!! RIP IT UP WARREN RIP IT

  • I would have titled the video Warren Haynes (with Dave in the background). Warren does an awesome job that's for sure.

  • rocks my soul should b a million views

  • leave it to warren haynes and dave matthews to take a classic neil young song and take it to another level - amazing!

  • This is a subdued Warren for the most part. He's one of the greatest guitarist current and for alltime. Gov Mule, Allman's and about anyone that needs one of the best guitarists there is. I prefer Warren's lead to Satriani's but Joe was stellar too.

  • This song, has enlightened me to be and incredible guitarist. Warren Haynes (guitarist and singer for the Alman Brothers) is incredible, his voice switching off half verses with Dave, sounds so damn good. Dave Matthews is incredible. The way he covered this song (originally Neil Youngs) and played it with a soft chorus followed by a very distorted intense, yet melodic solo, spoke to me. And of course Carter Beauford on drums, is my musical insperation on Drums did a incredible job

    Im 15, Jesse

  • who ever put this vid together is a genuis

  • Not even close to Neil Young & Crazy Horse but... still an Amazing cover !!

  • love how dave and the drummer communicates during the song.. i got the same thing with my drummer and its really a good thing to have ;D

  • I think a lot of the argument about who played with more this and that would go away if you stuck that Paul in Satriani's hands. He's every bit the same kind of emotive player, but at this level, tone plays a huge part, and that old gibbie sound is what this song was based on originally, and there's something about an edgy high gain metal guitar that will never get to the guts of a song like this.

  • @naradajim

That's a good, well-rounded point you have Naradajim. And I dissagree with it entirely. When great musicians play other great musician's songs, they make the song their own. This version of Cortez the Killer was given a body, soul, attitude, spirit, and a passion due at least in part to the very guitar sound you denounce so readily. It's what brings me back to this song over and over again. I do not think Dave nor Warren are trying to be Neil. They've done a damn fine job.

  • @VeritasAlienari somehow you missed my good, well rounded point. please read my message again. Very few people would try to play this on an Ibanez or Jackson. They are what they are, and good for what they do, but they don't have the visceral guts that a Les Paul has. Warren brings the power, and this song has to have that. He never sounds thin. My point was that Satriani's playing is agile AND emotive, but you can't pull the guts with a high tech, active guitar. It's analog vs digital.

  • @VeritasAlienari

I don't know which sound I'm denouncing so readily. For the record, I don't and will not ever own a guitar with active pickups and that thin, overpowered but under expressive tone.

  • the best song i've ever listen !

  • dave looks back at the drummer at 10.27 at if you lip read says ,,he's bad.. lol go mr haynes

  • my fav rock track of all time never get bored and it moves me every time 4,22 wow

  • No offense to DMB fans, which I'm sure they'll will take offense, but Warren Haynes has forgotten more about music than Dave will ever learn about playing or singing. He's a true master musician. If you like the 2 of them together though they're doing I think 4 or 5 dates together this summer.

  • flawless!

  • wwoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • This song, has enlightened me to be and incredible guitarist. Warren Haynes (guitarist and singer for the Alman Brothers) is incredible, his voice switching off half verses with Dave, sounds so damn good. Dave Matthews is incredible. The way he covered this song (originally Neil Diamonds) and played it with a soft chorus followed by a very distorted intense, yet melodic solo, spoke to me. And of course Carter Beauford on drums, is my musical insperation on Drums did a incredible job

    Im 15, Jesse

  • It's a Neil Young song, not Neil Diamond.

  • @Jetsrule192 Neil Diamond? He who sang Sweet Caroline? I think you're wrong!!

  • @Jetsrule192 my bad it is neil young

  • @Jetsrule192 this is a Neil Young song, not Neil Diamond.

  • Recently, I stumbled onto the The Dave Matthews Band's Live In Central Park Video while shopping and right away, my immediate impression was WOW! they are freaking great so I took a chance and bought the DVD. After the first time watching it, I discovered Warren Haynes. I'd never heard of him before either. Warren Haynes is a guitarist supreme. He's fantastic in Cortez The Killer. Hooray for the Dave Matthews Band and Warren Haynes.

  • "he's bad"

  • mr.haynes and dave matthews create magic.joe sat does his own thing with his satriani flair. a fine number performed by a fine set of artists.
