There's a large difference Archris17, the United States Marine Corps is a special operations capable unit in and of it's self. It's the only branch that doesn't necessarily have a Special Operations Unit, unless you consider MARSOC (Marine Special Operations Command.) so there ya go man.

The US Marines are far more than "advanced Infantry. 1/4 are SpecWar. unless ALL the RM's are SCUBA and Jump Qualled, they aren't close to the SEAL's. I served with Marine Recon for 34 years as a Corpsman, there is no comparison to these guys. I served 2 years in the UK with an RM unit as an exchange, Marine Recon will take any shot you have and just smile while they kill you.

@sarge958 The Navy has the best education benifits, if you want to serve with the Marines and still have a great time, Corpsman is the way to go. I never had a better time, you do what they do, but your boot camp is FMSS, a brutal 8 weeks in North Carolina or Camp Pendleton. Recon comes by looking for meat. Very few make that but if you get chose and get past Indoc, Recon Corpsman is the absofreakinglutely best time in the world. You can go to AmphibRecon School, jump/dive and very advanced med

To be honest though, the US Marines and the Royal Marines aren't really comperable. The USMC take the roll of advanced infantry (as far as I'm aware), while the Royal Marines are closer to the Navy Seals in function....
I know my country doesn't have a marine corps (Ireland) but both the RM and the USMC are the shock troops of their respective countries, they're both forces that focus on offence then leave the technical stuff to the other services.
@Archris17 As far as I'm aware, the Royal Marines could be advanced infantry, and I DAMN sure know that the USMC can operate in a similar manner to the SEALs with Force Recon. It's all about the clime and place mate, and what the mission calls for.

@Archris17 The USMC has a unit of "coomandos" called recon they are what the royals are. For the rest of Marines they are either infantry or non infantry and have hundreds of different roles. I my self was a radio operator.

The US Marines are far more than "advanced Infantry. 1/4 are SpecWar. unless ALL the RM's are SCUBA and Jump Qualled, they aren't close to the SEAL's. I served with Marine Recon for 34 years as a Corpsman, there is no comparison to these guys. I served 2 years in the UK with an RM unit as an exchange, Marine Recon will take any shot you have and just smile while they kill you.

@sarge958 Corpsman is the greatest. FGo with SARC and you will be on ships and you will be in the bush. Being a Navy Corpsman is a calling from G-d, these men will revere you, worship the ground you walk on and do not ever betray that trust, they won't forget that either.
I would go fleet Corpsman, try to get 2nd MarDiv, they go alot of places.

@sarge958 The Navy has the best education benifits, if you want to serve with the Marines and still have a great time, Corpsman is the way to go. I never had a better time, you do what they do, but your boot camp is FMSS, a brutal 8 weeks in North Carolina or Camp Pendleton. Recon comes by looking for meat. Very few make that but if you get chose and get past Indoc, Recon Corpsman is the absofreakinglutely best time in the world. You can go to AmphibRecon School, jump/dive and very advanced med

To be honest though, the US Marines and the Royal Marines aren't really comperable. The USMC take the roll of advanced infantry (as far as I'm aware), while the Royal Marines are closer to the Navy Seals in function....

I know my country doesn't have a marine corps (Ireland) but both the RM and the USMC are the shock troops of their respective countries, they're both forces that focus on offence then leave the technical stuff to the other services.

@Archris17 As far as I'm aware, the Royal Marines could be advanced infantry, and I DAMN sure know that the USMC can operate in a similar manner to the SEALs with Force Recon. It's all about the clime and place mate, and what the mission calls for.

Im not taking anything away from these brave men and woman, because it takes a lot of will to dedicate yourself to such a large cause. War is needed sometimes, but things can be done different. Missions could be more percise and quick. It seems that selling weapons is more important than the people using them. just saying. @Archris17 The USMC has a unit of "coomandos" called recon they are what the royals are. For the rest of Marines they are either infantry or non infantry and have hundreds of different roles. I my self was a radio operator.

Actually, after looking over the marines of both nations again, I have to admit; I was wrong.
The US Marine Corps have demonstrated time and again that they are of the highest moral fiber and combat skill, easily on a par with the Royal Marines and other British services.
Degredation of either service disgraces both countries involved. So, I aplogise to the 'net.
