Blah, why is Brand New's "The Devil and God Are Raging Inside of Me" so highly regarded when "Welcome The Night" is a more powerful, more well-written album?

Don't get me wrong, Brand New's release was very good, if not excellent, but "Welcome The Night" was nothing short of magnificent; I just cannot comprehend why so many people received it poorly. It was EASILY Kris Roe's best work...and some of the best songwriting of the decade.

I believe it was mostly because, at the time, most people were not expecting this brand of music from this artist. Granted, I absolutely adore this album, with a few exceptions, but most listeners of the ataris were expecting more of a pop punk album and just turned themselves off to welcome even though their are some truly spectacular songs written.
