So the NK sub could not get past the US ships in the area undetected because the US ships were indeed there and they are indeed equipped enough on alert that NK could not possibly get close enough to the Cheonan to sink her. But those same advanced US ships can accidentally sink a friendly? Or they can't do a good enough 'fake' which leaves it wide open to conspiracy theorists? @rushius The key resolve/eagle joint exercise was done at 180km away at Taean  sea from 1.8km SW of Baekryung island the explosion site and also firing exercise finished by Mar. 25, 2010, Torpedo suspected firing range is 10-15km. Unfortunately reduced sonar functioning due to swift currents Cheonan did not detect sub or torpedo.

There were 4 US Aegis ships, 1 Ticonderoga ship, 3 Arleigh Burke guided-missile destroyers doing one of the greatest joint US-South Korea war game exercises ever near the Cheonan when the incident happened. Supposedly a Nth Korean sub was able to fire a torpedo at the Cheonan undetected. The Cheonan is also equipped with radar & sonar that can detect a torpedo within a 30-km radius.

The experts say North Koreans used a German-made torpedo to avoid using Russian or Chinese made ones so that NK could escape detection. @3021421, I hard that the US navy and the South Korean Navy were having a joint military exercise when this attack happened. I think the US took advantage of this joint military exercise to fire a torpedo at the South Korean warship so no one would notice because there were live fire and live ammo shooting everywhere. The US and/or Israeli Mossad are very clever to plan this attack during a military exercise.
