again, this is not a review! this is a hands on, it's a bit sad that commenters can't read a title isn't it? Due to the enormous success of magicgate i guess it's ok not to know what this sony stuff is ;)
Wow, talk about sass. Ok, let's take the word "reviewer" out of my original statement. Now it's just a random guy who doesn't know the difference between glossy and matte screens and doesn't know what MagicGate is.
And I'd say MagicGate is fairly successful, seeing a how it's on *every* Sony device that supports removable media, like Vaio desktops, Vaio notebooks, Walkman MP3 players, SE phones, PS2/PS3, PSP, and so on. Unless you believe those items aren't too common ;)
I got a Dell Vostro v13 thats slightly thicker but way more powerful with laptop specs...when u get this thin your sacrificing alot...its like getting a premium netbook at netbook specs.
Build quality and everything aside, I've seen better keyboards on 9" netbooks.
Why didn't they stretch the keyboard all the way to the edges??? all the keys could be easily made larger and more comfortable (look at the tiny shift keys) and coupled with the sub standard touchpad they leave huge, wasted wrist area.
With 11" form factor there's no excuse, Asus did it better with their 1000HE.
sorry but that's not true. I have all the 8.9" netbooks (they never built any 9" ones) that were sold by the big manufacturers and i really mean all of them. There is no keyboard that even comes close this sony one and hell, i've been calling out sony in more than a dozen articles ;)
so could you tell me in plain english what your point is? of course i am guessing cause they wouldn't tell us any specs of the device! we were the first ones to get it and that was 6 weeks before the official launch.
maybe you wanna check the upload date of this video before leaving such funny comments ;)
I agree 'bout specs and price, but the v13's weight is equal to 2 vaio x and then some. It is also around 3mm thicker, which is quite a lot in the ultra portable-league.
how funny you are. Want more RAM? More storage? better graphic? GO and buy a desktop! Are you guys really expecting a laptop with about 1.4 cm that can do everything a desktop can do? I think you need to go to sleep now.
I really don't understand what Sony was thinking when they made this. It's a 1400 dollar netbook. Not a laptop. Mac has the macbook air with core 2 duo and nvidia graphics. Dell has the Adamo with core 2 duo and crappy intel graphics. Why sony picked an atom processor and intel graphics is beyond me. The very least they could have done was used the ion platform with the Atom. Either way, there's no reason this can't have core 2 duo like the Dell and Mac that this competes with.
Some people don't like mac. i'd have a VAIO over an mac anyday. Also VAIO has more ports, better battery life, and a lot lighter. Its under *700g*. Definitely not as powerful as a cheapo brick... but that's not what they are competing against.
yeah I'd rather use my imac (if i had one) then a laptop any day. But the macbook air was design with a spacious keyboard, humangus trackpad, and good OS. sure ignore all those things. look at that damn vaio it's a crappy copy why are you denying it? the air is not intended to replace a desktop pc so dont kid yourself. watch the vid again. nothing you can say will negate the shit keyboard/trackpad/and OS. why is it soo hard to understand??????
anyways. i know what people are saying about the Air. And I will tell you so there is ABSOLUTELY NO CONFUSION. battery is not removable, no optical drive, no vista, only 2gb ram, no ethernet, too thin. obviously nitpicking crap. ipods have no replaceable battery they are still best selling devices. no need optical drive PERIOD. fuck vista. VISTA needs at least 2gb of memory, mac os runs great on 2gb. everything else is laughable as well. you can use your old plastic laptop.
continuation --- but this is an Apple computer we are talking about. it is your decision to make a point and stick with old technology. but at the end of the day everyone is going to know that all that is is a defensive tactic to make a point. it's just unfortunate really. I'm saying this because it is kind of stupid that there is hate for Apple products when they are good computers and I dont see how your comments......lets not go any further. just understand dont get mad. Please.........
if I wanna continue then let me? if you have nothing to say dont make it my problem. dont try to look for an excuse to make me wrong. what the hell the problem???
i've used a macbook air, and I can say that it would beat out this thing easily. pc makers may make thinner pcs, but at the sacfrifice of performance....this is going to be a $1400 netbook essentially, eww...
Macs are overpriced. They rip you off. Look at the hardware specs and the retail price for those are way below the price they set. Maybe the OS itself cost a bomb :P
in some cases yes, they may be slightly overpriced, for instance the macbook air, is over priced, but its not much more than this and the specs are much better so, this thing is a complete ripoff for what you get....I mean it looks nice and all but 1400 for the same basic specs of a $300 netbook, thats just bad.
I hope I'll like it. The last time I used a Mac was in elementary school. Our computer labs were filled with macs, the old school ones that looked like a small rectangle. What kind of Mac(s) do you own?
Nice. I was thinking about getting that because it has an optical drive and more USB inputs but it's 1.5 pounds heavier than the Air, lol. But then it is cheaper than the Air. :/
The day I pay over 1300 dollars for any computer that is less powerfull than my FREAKING SEVEN YEAR OLD ATHLON XP...Feel free to kick me in the balls. Hard.
Seriously, at that price an Intel Atom is just unacceptable.
lol, true, but it still seems wrong. I still wouldnt pay more than 400 bucks for a computer with lesser processing power than an Athlon XP 3000+ though, GPU acceleration or not. Even if this thing had a dual core Atom in it (it doesnt) it wouldnt justify the price, this is rediculous. They could have thrown a ULV processor in there, its been done before.
Very nice, I bet it cost well over £1000, Sony make things, but you pay well over the top. I'm going to get my X from the u.s.a. Oh and it has no HDIM.
i am just not used to proprietary stuff which doesn't match any standard and was just made for cross sales reasons. And i am also not used to such a fanboy comment attack! get a life!
haha, who cares about rotten Apple, they have no tech, no innovations, and certainlly copy about everything SONY makes. they released that shitty Mac Air 5 yrs after the still lighter thinner X505, and SONY's been quite about it, but when SONY wanna do something about it, this is what you get, CRASHES anything Apple could ever imagin, not the same class, APPLE can NOT compete with SONY on design, nor tech. all they can do is lie in their ads and fool stupid ppl to buy their stuff.
What are you talking about? They do not copy Sony.
Also, the Sony Vaio X series is just terrible when compared to the MacBook Air. Atom vs Core 2 Duo, Intel graphics vs Nvidia, etc. The only thing the X has going for it is the fact that the thickest portion is thinner than the Air's thickest portion. Yes, I'm aware that it's supposed to be more netbook than ultraportable, all the more reason not to compare it to the Air.
no you should think before you click the comment button.
This thing weighs exactly HALF of a mac air and has smaller screen. Xseries is meant to be a SMALL computer like its predecessor TT series which focused on battery&portability. AIR is big&heavy compared to the Xseries. it is smaller in all dimensions (except the thinnest part in Air). Apple doesn't copy Sony? BS. they copied sony's keyboard. Air ITSELF is a copy of the original x series, X505, released in 2004.
How do you know about the spec that's not even released yet? Sony hasn't released any info about the system(The SAMPLE shown at the show had Atom processor, but they've Clearly mentioned that the processor spec isn't finalized). It's replacing TT series, so it'll most likely have a ULV spec.
BUT your comment were mostly how it is low-spec compared to the AIR so i said it's not comparable. And how about saying how crApple doesn't copy Sony.... what happened to those? huh?
The model shown had an Intel Atom, we were able to figure it out by looking at a few things around the system, but the processor was masked to that you could not directly identify it. If it was going to be ULV why wouldn't they put in the processor they really want to use and try to hid its identity.
they masked it because they're either using next-gen atom (pinetrail) or ulv. it's not the current-gen atom like the sample had. The processor and even the battery isn't finalized yet. The rep I spoke to said they're making announcements in late Oct.
different purpose man, Z is one of the MOST powerful computer regardless desktop or laptop while Z is for ultra portable computing. ppl who buy X normally have more than two computers as this one should be light media entertainment and net surfing, although wait for the Z, the new one should be announced pretty soon.
Very interesting, thanks, though, I am thinking, couldn't you have quickly slipped a look at the System information to find out what processor it was running? or were you being guarded while you were filming....
oh we were guarded and they locked the system information but.....
the my computer overview in win 7 shows the cpu information on the bottom and it was Intel Atom! Sony told me though, that this is not the final processor. I would guess they are going for the Pine-Trail platform (Atom N450) and maybe for culv.
it's just a newer smaller flimsier version of my thinkpad t60 :P
