First, you don't know shit. Honda and other Japanese automakers are trying to bring diesel version cars into America as close as 2010. Secondly, making vehicles is expensive--thus it is more profitable to share technology then it is to horde it. Again, read my comment, the Pontiac Vibe IS BUILD NEXT to the Toyota Matrix because the only difference between the cars is the badges.

Congratulations, you have a tiny useless UV with no power to tow anything or go off-road (Original designs of UVs) and you get the gas mileage of an average V6 sedan. Man, Ford is really on the ball...
they sure are. These are selling like hot cakes. You have way more room than an average car, and you can get 40 MPG from it, more than most standard non hybrid CARS. And all from an SUV.

You're a lying dumbass. That gay piece of shit Escape won't hold as much as my friend's Nissan Quest (*gasp* A Minivan!!!). No lying cock sucker, you can't get 40 mpg from it, it barely can get MPGs in the mid twenties. It's a slow piece of shit, I've gotten 36 mpg and my car is way faster than that boring ass little box on wheels Gayscape.
Nissan Quest? sorry never heard of it. And yes I think I might be lying. Upon further research it seems many people are getting 45 and 50 MPG on this car. Sorry for the conservative estimate. Oh yea, it's not a race car dummy it's not supposed to go fast.lol If I wanted a fast car I'd buy a porche. I'll be buying this great car soon.

Of course you wouldn't, you're only interested in those ugly boxes on wheels. Bitch, that piece of gay shit won't get more than 25 mpg. What a waste of $30k, get a real car. But you're probably gay since you live in LA so that's why you want that ugly thing.
@LAGuy800 nobody gets 45-50 mpg out of it. I have one and I drive much more light footed than the average person and get about 35 mpg combined. I know somebody who has the 4x4 version of it who does not drive light footed and gets 29 mpg combined.
The most mpg I have ever heard of anybody getting on it is just barely 40 mpg and thats from accelerating in EV mode which is difficult to do
downhill is very good for mpg in this car in particular because of its high EV cruising speed (44 mph)
This SUV isn't designed to tow anything or go offroad. It's designed to get good gas mileage to run around town and drive on the highway. Look at an Explorer Sport Trac to do those things.
Oh yeah, right. Companies never work together. I mean sure the Toyota Matrix and the Pontiac Vibe are the same vehicle. GM, Ford, and Toyota design transmission together. But, oh my, hybrid technology! Never! Even though hybrid tech isn't as advance as you might think. Anyways, if Ford had Toyota's arm behind it's head then why did Ford give patent rights to diesel and direct injection tech to Toyota?
You see automakers share technology and things all the time.
The Escape Hybrid uses technology similar to that used in Toyota's Prius. Ford engineers realized their technology may conflict with patents held by Toyota, which led to a 2004 patent-sharing accord between the companies, licensing Ford's use of some of Toyota's hybrid technology in exchange for Toyota's use of some of Ford's diesel and direct-injection engine technology.[7] Both Ford and Toyota state that Ford received no technical assistance from Toyota in developing the hybrid powertrain.

I am in the market for a new car. I am considering this suv but i was just wondering how it does in the snow? I live in the north and have to travel in the snow a lot during the winter.
from reviews i've read it's amazing in the snow. one in particular said that he had an uphill driveway with 6" of snow and it did fine. hope that helps.
LOL. The battery pack is warrantied in 45 states for 8 years/1000,000 mile and in 5 states for 10 years/150,000. Battery pack failures are extraordinarily rare and it is completely recyclable.
yea he made a little mistake there....in theory if you did all city driving then you may have no emmisions but when the gas motor is running on the highway or you accelorate hard...then there will be some
is it true that the AWD models do not really function like a non hybrid awd.

Escape drivetrain made by Aisin Seki Japan same as Prius.
Escape battery NIMH made by Panasonic/sanyo Japan same as Prius.
Ford[Escape Hybrid] came out 7 years after Prius
Toyota Prius sold 1.7 million Prius worldwide the last 12 Years [yes over a decade] since its was first introduced.

Yeah but it still ultimately gets all its power from gasoline (it's not pluggable), therefore it has to spew emissions at some point.

Folks here's the hard Truth and Fact that Ford doesn't want you to know or tell you
Ford can't make a hybrid so they are paying rights to TOYOTA to use Prius technology on the Hybrid escape
so in other words thanks to Toyotas Prius Technology Ford has a hybrid vehicle
anybody heard of the Honda FCX Clarity?
these guys have the solutions Today not concepts! or dream of imagination
Toyota and Honda is on their 3rd generation technology and not stopping

They seriously have to make a plug in hybrid in 2010, and they should make it the most fuel Efficient Car in The WORLD! Go Ford!
hujintaozuihao 4 years ago
Ford saids their tester plug-in can get up to 100mpg. Several have already been delivered to SoCa Edison.

After 3-4 years you will have to buy new batteries at a very high price!!!To produce these batteries you need a lot of energy and to dispose of them
is also expensive if you do it the correct way!!
rberding 4 years ago
the cheap way is to dig a hole and throw the old battery in and never talk about it again.
