Duryodhana was not useless he was one of the greatest warrior..He only stood for he thaught was correct (offcourse as per history always the winner is correct..the one who loses is always the bad guy..Duryodhana faught for what he think is was rightfully his.He knew that Bhisma and party would desert him in war..he was only banking of Karna..little did he knew that even his friend karna would not kill any pandava (except arjuna) may be  then he would not have fought the war..

He got a boon which proved to be a curse for him and saw the destruction of his own kingdom by his own children.Anyway if Karan would have gone in the battle field with his kavach it would have been unfair on others as he would be unbeatable, not because of his skills but because of his armor and also Krishna and Kunti both asked him to come with them and to become king of Hastinapur.

Bhishma and Karna deserve a lot of respect no doubt but they are certainly overrated by many... I don't know about Bhishma, but there are sufficient points in the story which are put up to glorify the greatness of Karna which certainly make him a great character but unfortunately these are very nicely used by many imbecile atheists who masquerade to know a lot about MBH and speak that Karna is the eternal hero of the story and everybody else including the lord as villains :-D

Thats true mate. But please also consider the fact that the Pandavas (Arjun in particular) vowed not to use divine weapons in the war as they wanted dharma to win and not the divine weapons. While Karna and other used all available divine weapons in this war against Pandavas. And when somebody goes in protection of dharma then it becomes the duty of the Lord to protect them. Isn't it?
