  • Yes you need to know, what type of RAM you need for your laptop. If its a newish one it could be a DDR 2 type. But you had best check either by removing one & checking it. Or by using a program like CPUZ & checking the memory info part.

Also make sure you get Laptop RAM known as 'SO-DIMM' when you order, as there are desktop & laptop vesions.

  • im a newbie at the computer/laptop so how is the ram could u just buy one then install it done or do you have to have a certain type for your laptop

  • *the price*

  • price can vary on how much the RAM cost, different brands cost more than others. There are some budget versions though which are really cheap & good value. (as used here)

There are also some un-branded versions which can be even cheaper but they might not be any good, it can be a lottery with the un-branded modules if you know what brand the actual chips are & there good its fine, some else has just put the chips on one of there boards.

I say go for a budget branded module for a laptop.

  • this is for my old pc how mutch is 1gb?

  • thanks Ashley I'll send this link to a client of mine who needs help.

  • that's fine, glad it was of help to you

  • Awesome video Ash! Very helpful, I can't wait to stick a couple gigs in my lappy :)

  • Also bare in mind 32-bit operating systems can only make use of 3.2 / 3.5 GB of RAM (depending on some motherboards having a work around to get 3.5 GB), even though it detects the 4 GB of RAM.

64-bit versions of windows are able to make full use of 4 GB & more.
