  • Ah, soulful Sachin Da..

  • Beautiful picture. Who made the video? Who took the pictures?

  • Thanks for the nice interpretation.

  • What lovely lyrics written by his wife-Meera. Can you please say why the southern wind is appreciated in BengaI. Is it because it brings monsoon rain and winter ?

  • @srinivasanchanniga yes southern wind blows from ocean brings moisture brings soothing comfort . hundreds if not thousands songs in bengali reference it. In fact houses in bengal are architected so that they have south openings.

  • :-".........good nd nice song

  • Yes can you please translate the lyrics for us -non Bengalis ? We apprecate the emotional way Dada has sung this song. It has been adopted by Him as 'Khayi hai re humne kasam' in Talash (1970).

  • in his unique playful teasing voice...here is a translation part 1 o my southern wind do you know I fell in love in its magic charm in my eyes lost my sight too the dormant desire in my heart woke up in your lustful touch my love for you my longing for the you make me restless every now and then
  • translation part 2 I care for nothing now just for a plunge into your heart o my dear sweet southern wind I fell in love in this scorching heat I adore you like the rain in monsoon like a bright moon in the autumn sky planning my mischievous game with you in the fall and my indolence for the winter
  • translation part 3

    but for now

    in this charming spring

    I crave you

    in my arm

    o my lustful southern wind

    do you know

    I fell in love

  • Sandatta1963,

  • Beautiful! :)Love the sweet song, baanshi & montage of lovely images you so aptly put. I've always loved SD Burman's voice. He had an unmatched haunting depth in his voice that brought out the depth of lyrics in particular in sad philosophical songs more beautifully than one could imagine any other singer filling in! His Kaahe Ko Roye of Aradadhana & Wahan Kaun Hai Tera of Guide are among the best where I couldn't resist leaving a comment of appreciation either!:)Thanks! Ritu, USA, April 22, 09.

  • Thank you!

  • superb voice......romantic...some of the pictures are from DU campus, right? excellent lyrics....S.D..Burman originated from Agortola, Tripura...he was termed there as Shachin karta (as he was treated as Zaminder there)....

  • @ritupm This is what Tulika Ghosh, daughter of Nikhil Ghosh and niece of Pannalal Ghosh has told me about SDB's voice, "The sonorous voice had a very enchanting ‘patti’ (a purposefully done break in voice especially in folk music or semi classical Thumris). Many have tried to copy that, but failed. Among the classical musicians it was Begum Akhtar and Ustad Barkat Ali Khan, the younger brother of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan who had this beautiful element in their singing.
