  • Thanks for posting this! I play it for my three year old who has just started Suzuki... it's great encouragement for her!! I'm going to have to try to get the wiggles out at the beginning our our practices!

  • You're a wonderful teacher! I'm sure they'll grow up to be great violinists.

  • thats not how u hold the bow, but nice still

  • @TheGaymers Actually, he is holding the bow correctly accroding to the Suzuki program. In the program, they teach very very young children to hold the bow like that because their fine motor skill is not there yet. In fact, his thumb is precisely where it should be: touching the hair and the ferrel. This is the only time they are allowed to touch the bow hair. When he is ready, his thumb will drop to where he is supposed to hold. Their mother is a very good teacher :)

  • aww he is soo cute and talented!!

  • He's not holding the bow properly :).

  • the second one is so cute a bit shy... just loved him..

  • my mom started me on piano at 3,

because the music teacher said that a kid should not start violin before 4.

then i started violin at 4.

  • How cute. I too, h ave four year old twin boys and they started the violin back in Sept. 2008 and they are now learning the piano as well. They love music.

  • not bad but u put the tumb on the wrong place

  • OMG that is soo cute! and at 4 years old? wow, you're an amazing teacher and mother ^_^ he'll be an amazing violinist and person. ah the beauty of learning music

  • What a wonderful start!

  • AHH!!! The Hurtful Sponge!

  • El es muy dulce y alegre !!!!!!!!!!

Lo bueno es que [el se divierte y aprende jugando

  • I'm a violin prof and mom....you're doing a wonderful job!

  • I'm a violin prof and mom....you're doing a wonderful job!

  • he is too much cute

    =)

  • I watched your video with my 4 year old who has just started, and we both enjoyed it.

My experience is that the suzuki method does work - my older two (age 9 and 7) started young and have progressed really well - have a look at their videos at a recent concert for further inspiration.

  • haha, so cute. I wished i learned violin when i was this young, but too bad, i missed the opportunity. T.T

  • I have been teaching Suzuki for 7 years and this video is right on! The bow hold is picture perfect and the kids absolutely love the songs that are used to learn small steps. By the way, teaching little kids is super duper easy! They are not messed up yet and will do anything you want!

  • Folks, don't knock Suzuki. Suzuki is more than just a book, or a method. It's a way of learning and really living. If you had a sucky Suzuki teacher, they probably didn't know TRUE SUZUKI. Those of use who do love it, and so do our students. So blame the method, not the teacher. :)

As far as the bow hand, Little ones don't have the fine motor skills to hold bows the traditional way, so they teach them an alternative method to start off.

  • These kids will be really good if they stay interested. Just one suggestion...DON'T USE SUZUKI!!! I have had 3 teachers, and only one taught with suzuki. When I got to be better than her, I went to a teacher who was taught by one of gr8 violinsts, Josef Gingold. She was furios that I had been taught suzuki, I had had to relearn many things.

  • unusual way to hold the bow... his thumb is not where it is meant to be ;-)

  • This is the way little kids are sometimes taught to hold the bow as they are not ready yet to control the bow the traditional way. It works with my twin 5 year olds!

  • aww you're a good teacher!

but i don't think they're holding their bows the way we learned.

  • I can't wait to see the out come! I'm a violinist myself, I wish I started at four! When I imagine when I was four, I don't think I can learn anything on the violin!

  • It would be great if they would stay interested until then!

This video is actually two videos of my twin boys spliced together.. I wish I had put one of them in a different colored shirt to make it easier to tell when I switch between them!

So far, they are enjoying the learning process. They love learning the names of the strings, etc just like they love learning a new song or singing their ABC's. They can't wait until they can start actually playing, which should be pretty soon!

  • is it hard to teach a 4 year old to play violin?

-and btw....by the time he is 13 yrs old.......he is gonna be the star of his schoool orchestra...(concert master)
