  • yes always wanted to know how to play this one

  • What pedals and/or effects did you use for the IDR era?

  • How do you get such a clear octave tone from your OC-2? I get a horrible "warbling" effect (for lack of a better word) if a low note is played or a note is held too long. Great videos, keep them up!

  • @TheDragonlee71 To much octave or no enough dist.

  • @JustARhythmGuitarist I've tried everything I can think of to improve the tracking of the OC-2, including adding a compresser and volume boost before it in my line up. I'm using an EMG 81 in the bridge position, I don't think low output is an issue?

  • @TheDragonlee71 You don't have to do al that! well not that I know of! i use a boss MT2 dist. boss oc-3 and 15 watt marshall amp on clean and get an amazing cky tone like his! concidering the oc2 is what they use im sure you will get better results! if ur tone is breaking up its normal cause an octave effect will do that! You get better tone when an amp is louder! use a faily high amount of distortion! different distortions will give different results!

  • @TheDragonlee71 use a faily high but not too high distortion and a hint of octave! (1 o clock works wonders) and 9 oclock oc2

  • @TheDragonlee71 with direct all the way up!

  • @TheDragonlee71 Aaaaaand use the D'Addario EJ21 guitar strings (12-52)! No other strings will work. Literally.

  • @JustARhythmGuitarist I'll try lowering the octave 1 setting and boosting the octave 2 and see what I get, thanks. I use EJ22's, I like 'em a little heavier.

  • @TheDragonlee71 awesome! and maybe use the ej21's? ;)

  • @JustARhythmGuitarist I actually have a pack of EJ21's I bought by a while back by mistake. Next time I change strings I'll put them on and see how I like them.

  • @TheDragonlee71 Aweesome! They are what he uses anyway! lol

  • @BubblingSyphilisSund First of all he was selling some of his stuff to help pay for one of his friends illness needs! And second of all there's fans that buy stuff from him even if it's expensive because that's how much you admire him! i would buy one of his picks for 30 dollars if he asked for that much! IDC!!!!

  • @BubblingSyphilisSund Well looks like you can't appreciate what Deron is doing for the alliance! I respect him and what he does! Every artist has there ups and downs but who doesn't! We all have pur bad days! Doesn't mean you have to talk shit about him! I agree, deron can sometimes be quite a bit cranky but who gives a shit! You show respect, he will! you don't then what do you expect! It's part of life! And being a fan of him for 6 years isn't kissing his ass!

  • @BubblingSyphilisSund First of alll...Deron isn't gonna hold your hand and baby you on how to learn songs! Especially note for note! Second of all, he actually takes the time to show you how to play it unlike other stuck up artists in this world! Third, he cares about his fans so much! He talks to people on his FB unlike other artists! Fouth of all, don't get his family into this!!! That's too far!!!

  • awesome vid deron

  • whats up deron, my name is Cody Coulter from farmington missouri. your riffs are the best on the planet,. you are my favorite, always have been always will be. my videos i have right now are years old and maybe within the first year i started playing keyboard. ive met you once, in sauget illinois at pops nightclub. i am the dude with the cky tatoo on my left forearm. i woud really like to talk to you about something if you would message me sometime on facebook or my email diehardcky@aol.com

  • Hei Deron ! how the FUCK do you really make these melodies/riffs ?? ur a genius, hands down, !!!

can u talk about/show us your gear setup ?? pedals, amp ??

u defenetly have a uniqe sound, n it pisses me off because i cant get it !!

    haha cheers

  • whoa, i can even hear the noise from your picking hand like on the record. Not a bad thing, its pretty cool actually.

  • @Lastmanonearth haha, yeah, that's one of my favorite things about IDR, derons pickups squeaking like a motherfucker. so rad

  • one of the reasons I like cKy so much is because of the composition, there's nothing else like it, I always struggled to pick up Shock and Terror, such a complicated song. And the new Jackson sounds great too. Cheers Deron

  • Hey Deron what guitar strings do you use? I always used DAddario EJ21's 12-52 is that right?

  • no way...try learning a malevolent creation riff while watching a live video. i always wanted to be able to watch the guy sit still and play it slower. some guitarists can learnt that way and some cant. for me, tab was always useless because i learned everything by ear. i never needed tabs at all. theres different ways to learn songs and riffs on the guitar and these videos are definitely useful to a lot of people.

  • ckyalliance*com/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=4124&view=findpost&p=599047 tab files, transcribed from this video

  • Oc-2 or oc-3? I gotta know deron. Your tone is awesome.

  • a lot of us can learn from watching, i guess some of us cant.

i used to watch concert videos over and over to learn songs that i didnt know how to play. so yea i would say it depends how good of a player you are on whether or not you could call these types of videos a "lesson"

  • @invenom you could just put tabs in annotatios. if we have tabs then we can jsut follow along with the rhythm you play it at. Just a suggestion. But yeah this definetely cleared up some confusion especially the chorus riff

  • It's not so much a lesson as it is "watch me play it." For it to be a lesson you need to say what notes/frets your playing.

  • @BubblingSyphilisSund HE could just put tabs in annotations. if you have the tabs then you're set, just follow along with the rhythm

  • @hellrose18 If I had 100% correct tabs then I wouldn't need to watch him play it. d:F

  • @BubblingSyphilisSund tabs only tell you which notes are played and where certain embelishes and nuiances go, they do very little for rhythm

  • @hellrose18 That's why you listen to the damn song while looking at the tablature. Everything in this video could be ascertained through videos of CKY playing live.

  • @BubblingSyphilisSund riiight? cuz live videos show you each note that's played: picking hand and fretting hand. How the hell am i going to learn the chorus riff when they're doing shots of jess on drums and derons neck from three different angles? and the whole thing about having 100% correct tabs. wouldn't help much with this song cuz everything is so mixed in and layered on the studio version. the main riff? yeah. but the verse and chorus not likely

  • @hellrose18 they didnt layer on IDR much, just on CC

  • Awesome video! Is there any way you could explain what notes or frets your playing? You know kind of like how you did the Inhuman Creation Station video a while back. It'd help me learn a lot easier and I'm sure many others as well. Thanks.

  • Such an amazing riff. Can't wait to try it out. Looks really hard to play and sing it.

  • That shock and terror verse riff is fucking just badass! It's very halloweenie!

  • the only thing i was missing in my video was the octave on the 7 9 8 arpeggio chord.... awesome. thanks for the clarity

  • great job Deron - how cool that you're actually posting vids for us ... talk about being loyal to your fans !!! looking forward to more incredible tutorials !

  • Thanks, for the tutorial dude. It would make it so much easier if you kind of explain the slides and the tabs on the fast parts, but it's still pretty good. Do some Foreign Objects- Cosmic consciousness?

  • now if only Matty J would make some bass videos. great vid Deron!

  • @HurricaneXR I'm not even a bass player but would love to learn those early cky era bass lines like the one for arto/rowley.

  • I'm a beginner so It's going to be awhile before I can ever play this but this is still awesome. Love watching these.

  • It could be the reverb from the room, but are you using a Doubler Effect?

  • @Pmarckoue That thick, chunky sound comes from his Boss OC-2 Octaver pedal. Is that what you're hearing?

  • @CorporateNothing Yeah that one. What is it? lolololol

  • Love that your doing these videos and even though I'm a bassist I'll still watch 'em!

  • I've never been able to get the verse riffs down for this song for some reason. I'm sure this will help me out.

  • jackson + deron miller = the best :D

  • THE SHOCK AND TERROR KEEPS ME SA_A_ANE!

  • Haha I've been playing it totally differently, there's notes in there I've never even noticed listening to the CD! You're awesome for taking the time to do these, Deron =)

  • Freaking AWESOME! Thanks for the lesson Deron!

  • you look amazing man :D

cheers from the true fan :D

    Portugal :D

  • again, thanks for the great video man! informative and awesome tone.

  • I need an octave pedal now

  • looking well, deron. keep em comin!

  • And that verse riff is nothing like I thought it was, holy hell. I'm so glad you did this.

  • God I love the sounds of that octave pedal. Sweet vid man.
