Wish I was up at Laguna to see the DP1E race my man! But we are working on our race car all weekend... so bummed I am going to miss your semi annual CA outing!
@tarsman013 the motor is Remy permanent magnet machine. controller is by Rinehart Motion Systems and is a direct derivative of a successful 2009 F1 KERS unit. yes the batteries are 40ah Thundersky. this was the first real test with them so it's too early to tell except that they work a LOT better than the dead lead-acids we had in there before! the battery pack can't provide full power to the motor/controller, they can use 300A at over 400V but we don't have the room for that much battery
i am working on a setup for a senior project that will run around 500amps and i was worried about the ability for lithiums to deal with the current draw (and work on my college budget haha!) and i think the budget is where the problem comes in.
if you have any suggestions please let me know
if you recognize the username its the same one i use over at the aaoc ;-)
been following your builds/company since you had the idea of v8 atom
@tarsman013 if you want that much current on a 'budget' you're pretty much stuck with brushed DC, this is what all the drag racers use. you can use 160ah LiFePO4 cells, they'll push that much current without any issue but you'll need a lot of them to get any voltage and it gets expensive.
bfg R1?

nice setup!! (ac induction or dc?)
guessing those are thundersky cells (yellow case) though i may be wrong
how are they working out for you?
and if possible how many amps are you drawing with the current setup?
