When the mood is right on one of my gigs, I announce that the next selection will be "The One Note Samba". Then I'll fart as loudly as I can. Don't try this one one of YOUR gigs.....
Hahaha for 3 straight days I have been listening to Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd trying to find a sample for one of my beats ever since J dilla found "Runnin."
I love to play this track in my car on my way to work. Rather relaxing, even in case of a huge traffic jam. Any stress simply fades away when hearing this... For a long time I had simply never known that jazz could be this relaxing, as opposed to the aptly so named track "tensions" from Charles Mingus (which I love also, by the way). Jazz has got to be the most versatile style of music. It can blend with any kind of music you can think of...
Thanks for posting - I owned tis album for many years.... practically wore it out... finally lost it... the lyrical style of gets was perfect for this. And charlie Byrd is forgotten treasure. he never toured so he was mostly famous in Washington DC area. I loved all his work.
What a pleasure it is to hear this again.- made my day
The beautiful thing about this track--and this album in general--besides Charlie and Stan's magical chemistry--is how in this generally "cool" atmosphere Stan can still project such emotional intensity(2:11,for example). This album still stands as the most successful "Jazz meets Bossa"album ever made, both artistically and commercially. Also worth checking out is Charlie Rouse's "Bossa Nova Bacchanal"(Blue Note)
I used to see Charlie Byrd at The Showboat Lounge in DC in the early 60's on a very regular basis. I remember when he returned from a State Department tour in Brazil and he had us listen to this new music called Bossa Nova. We were hypnotized. He might have been the first American Jazz musician to record a Bossa Nova tune, O Pato (The Duck).
On Jazz Samba, people should be clear it was Charlie's project, and he brought Stan Getz in on it. And what an inspired coupling it was -- still is!
This arrangement takes me to a wonderful time and place. College life in America.. Music appreciation and chums studying around the turntable listening to Stan Getz in Olympia. Ah-Yeah

THANK YOU Dexterecus for sharing Jazz . . . honest to goodness JAZZ !!! as it was meant to sound - NOT pretentious electro generated over saxed, over played so called "smooth jazz" . . . BUT listen up ya all . . . because this is real - Smooth (with a capital "S") - JAZZ.
@napasnafasenakouva And If you come on this page its because you are a music Lover/ connaisseur otherwise dont bother give your opinion switch to Rihanna
This album with its distinctive cover was owned by my brother Peter when it first came out in the l960's. Superb sounding even now. Thanks for putting some of the music from the album on Youtube. Desafinado is beautiful.
One of the greatest sax players ever. Getz was a true master. He could play bop with Dizzy and Parker or play bosa nova with the best from Brazil. Pure genius!!
Brilliant...these tunes are way before my time but I found a love for Bossa Nova from a young age.
Charlie Byrd was a big fixture in my home state and played even into old age. Hearing his music and learning about how Brazil influenced him so deeply makes me appreciate this tune even more.
I sure hope that my generation keeps this stuff alive.

Charlie Byrd's guitar solo in this song is the sickest thing I've ever heard. I normally like indie rock but this song blows me away every time.

@TheConqueror09 Very close. Pharcyde's "Runnin" actually samples Saudade Vem Correndo (also by Stan Getz). (check it out at 2:05 and 2:47).
