  • Beethoven actually died during a lightning storm. Now that's what I call a fitting end for a person like him!

His final words are said to have been "schade, schade, zu spät!" which translates to "pity, pity, too late!", as if he wanted to compose something while he died, but couldn't finish it.

The most moving words of the funeral speech were "There he stands now among the great of all time; untouchable forever!"

Let's face it, Beethoven was the greatest composer who ever walked the earth!

  • "no key", BS. It's in C major. This is so ripped off from Amadeus.

  • Why are the final words in spanish? O_O

  • imposible not to cry in this movie....

  • i love this movie and i think that ed harris did make a good beethoven. if it was some one else playing that roll it would be alot of negitive comments about the movie.

but anyway i ignore the unnecessary comments. i think this movie is really good.

  • @MIKEYPOOHBEARJACKSON Harris was amazing indeed

  • Only for the sake of one MUSIC it is necessary to look it!!!

    Magnificent fil...

  • The screenwriters really borrowed a few "devices" from Amadeus - Anna's prayer and this scene.

  • I've seen quite a few negative comments to the previous parts. I think this film is OK. I thought Ed Harris made a good Beethoven, and in the screenplay - I mean, in the dialogue - there are some great, deep moments. The music was taken care of as well, Beethoven's last piano sonatas and especially the last string quartets are really something else, a long way from Fur Elise (!) and unlikely to be appreciated by most people. You've done a great job uploading this, thank you so much

  • I gather this was supposed to be like Amadeus when Mozart and Salieri work on Mozart’s Requiem together? Well this film does not even deserve to be mentioned in the same breath with Forman’s classic.

  • please the name of the song played in the min. 8:09

  • what song is in the begining? can someone tell me?? thank you

  • @mrchopin89 the song at the begining is "String Quartet No. 15 in A minor Op. 132" by beethoven

This is an american interpretation, not real or european one, as it really is! And Anna has a better place than Beethoven in this movie, when the one master was Beethoven. Here he is interpretated like a dumb and she like a beethoven, weird... we are europe not american.

    Greetings from Sweden

  • @Gastonsweden Please do not insult my country! This piece of trash is not any more American than it is European. y no es verdad, esto no tiene nada de Americano

  • @truvianni

Yo no he insultado, y es tu pais??

  • @truvianni Yo he visitado USA, Utah, CA y LA.

  • @truvianni Well, least they should make the effort to make it more realistic! I know 6 languages too, 3 latins and 3 Germanics, and of course a movie can be good even if it is not real, I didn't like it because Beethoven was playing the roll of the bad mood ignorant guy, and he was greater than that, & that girl was set as greater than Beethoven, she was conducting (and Beethoven's nephew did really doing that) directing and embarracing Beethoven instead, silly movie!

  • @Gastonsweden I agree with you completely on this film and all I said was that I see nothing in it which would make it American. I for the most part do not like American films yet no one can say we do not have better films than this. After all Amadeus was an American film despite its being directed by a Czech. I see the problem as being one of bad dialog apart from many things. I am a writer by the way and if you care to read my work all you need do is google my name "Truvianni".

  • @Gastonsweden As an extra note, I would also tell you that the moonlight sonata was not called as such till after Beethoven was dead.

  • @Gastonsweden and the languages I speak are English, Polish, Italian, French, Spanish and Russian. I naturally understand Potuguess like I imagine you as a Swede understand Norwegian and Danish. I as a matter of fact wrote a book about a girl from Sweden living in New York. I am looking for a publisher.

  • anyone who likes this film I encourage them to PLEASE look into the real history of Beethoven which this movie fails to represent. Whether or not that's a bad thing is up to you but I get so tired of people allowing utterly fictional movies to influence their perception of history/reality. Who would do that, you say? lots of people, unfortunately.

for starters, there was no anna holtz, beethoven did not conduct the orchestra at the 9th premiere, his nephew was not a lecherous wastrel..etc ;)

  • @ShawDAMAN he did conduct the orchestra, he was not the leading conductor though. They where two.

  • @Lity10 my understanding was that he attempted to beat out the tempo which is not really conducting per se but, if I am wrong, sorry, and thanks ;)

  • We all know that. Give us a break teacher.

  • @RAREpicture why the rudeness? you're the one that needs to give it a rest- obviously everyone DOESNT know that as I've seen people on utube and elsewhere trying to find out if there really was an anna holtz and so forth.

movies are very influential and like any good story if its told enough some people will start to believe it. all I did was courteously suggest to anyone who enjoyed the film to take a little time and look into the facts- its enjoyable and worthwhile to get the real story(s.)

  • When he was dictating the notes for her to write down, I was like... O.o

I am so musically illiterate ;p

Great movie. Must be my second time watching it though.

  • Damn good! Still....I think Immortal Beloved was a better film about Beethoven.

  • I love this movie... The ending reminds me of "Frau in der Morgensonne" by Caspar David Friedrich.

  • can any1 tell me wat he was writing in the end...is was nice.

  • @hotterThanU101 Quartet op. 132 3rd movement

  • @hotterThanU101 Near the end, Beethoven was writing his Opus 132 "Heiliger Dankgesang", a heavenly piece :D

  • Well, there had to be "Mozart dictating Salierie" moment. Not that any of both instances were true.

  • beauty & the beast

  • This movie is not so good. Not only does it share the the historacle inacuracies as Amadeus does it doesnt even come close to what Beethoven was like. At least Amadeus was only wrong about Salieri. But portrayed Mozart close. No wonder this movie failed.

  • so u think that movie amdeus did describe mozart accurate ?

u rly think he was such an arrogant monkey like that guy in the movie ?

sry amadeus only tells lies about mozart

    only lies !

  • @Dirkovic80

well, amadeus is still only a story. not only that but it's actually based on an opera by rimsky-korsakov. so the innacuracies are well-built into the story from knowledge thought to be true over a century ago.

  • @marcusdolby1 How does it misrepresent Beethoven?

  • @BoggiDTerminator how didn't it.

  • this is way too similar to the ending scene of amadeus with salieri, seems like they copied it.

  • Except Anna didn't want Beethoven to die

  • Yeah you're so right! As if any thing like that could ever have happened more than once in life or fiction. Nonsense. Who really thinks composers would actually tell someone what to write if (s)he were inhibited from doing so themselves?

    Sounds silly, does it not?

  • lol sarcasm? or are you really agreeing with me....

  • djJERO0. It must be one of his very late quartets, - the "mad" quartets.

  • wonderful film!

  • this is so inspiring,,,love it. As simple as that.

  • marry me diane!....shes so hot

  • please can anyone tell me the name of quartet that starts on 6:58 minute..i will really persuade that...thnx respect

  • *weeps uncontrollably*

*reads rotton tomatoes comments, kills computer* I HATE CRITICS!!! Honestly, the only people who should have the right to criticize art should be artists themselves, not just people with rotten opinions.

  • Such a beautiful film. Beautimus.

  • Very well acted and good film, this and immortal beloved really explain to you the kind of complexed character Beethoven really was, a genius not fully understood in his times.

  • Comment removed
