  • Parkour is about community and seeing yourself and other people around you get stronger. Competitions enslave athletes to be the image of the best. People use the role of judge to make decisions and try to claim authority over other people. Parkour is about freedom, not trying to live up to someone's standard. You see how many accidents are in this? Parkour is safe when the mind is balanced and in the momment. Competition takes the mind away from the moment. Be strong, and be Free!

  • @IcarusFlying The way I see it no one has the right to tell anyone else what Parkour is or isn't. The days of arguing "anti-competition", "flips arent parkour", etc. should just die. I think people really need to stop taking the definition and the annotations of what they claim Parkour should or shouldn't be so seriously. At the end of the day all we're doing is jumping on/off things. Nuff said.

  • @IcarusFlying deep~ .. parkour isn't safe at all as well, danger is imminent in everything, but because parkour is conducted and performed unusually, people think it is dangerous. i have fallen once, twice, a couple of times but no serious injury right? and exactly, competition itself is danger. and besides, we do not force the newer traceurs to perform leaps they are not ready for yet right? that's when competition will ruin that ideology.

  • cool video

    watch

Primal Movement - A Parkour Documentary

  • what is the song?

  • i dont understand why they call it parkour... even though they also have ultimate in there. its more on the style of free running they do a lot of tricks.

  • LOL street bike tommy

  • This is all awesome and everything, but i think its stupid how they have turned parkour into a competitive disipline

  • @cmoun5 Yeah look up it up on wiki and itll say under philosophy and therioes not a competitive sport i hate how america ruins stuff and im tired of being called gay and a fag cause people think im copying mtv when ive been doing this since october

  • is this a tv show that's coming out soon or already out!?!?!?! >:o

  • @TeamACAB

Its already out, check out my channel!

  • what is this gonna be, a tv show of some sort?

  • hagan uno en mexico

  • I've been a traceur now for 5 years. Parkour is the original practise of going from point a to point b, how it was originally meant to be. Freerunning is kind of the same idea.. Exept showing off flips and tricks.. It's more freestyle, but isn't really parkour.

  • 0:20 WT?????? omg!

  • he fell to smooth surface, dont worry

  • !!! Wow..

  • uhhu Cat fight

  • @ScapersMedia and i won =D

  • I never heard of Parkour before MTV's show. I prob wouldn't have seent it otherwise. Why do you care if I think it's Parkour, freeflow, freerunning? I'm a 30+ dude in Manhattan. I'm just impressed with the athletics and style whatever you call it.

  • Parkour= getting from point A to point B in the shortest amount of time and in the most efficient way and it DOES NOT involve competing against someone else therefore it is NOT a sport, but a skill

Freerunning= tricks and flips added into parkour with competing> lost the philosophy of parkour and became a sport

freeflow= nothing. it's just a name for a parkour and freerunning association.

Don't mix up those things. ;)

  • MTV SUXXXXXX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to the max of ze parkourzy noobertz interwebz ruller of ze poopoie

  • competition is not what parkour is about mtv you suck

  • there showing it in bad light and telling them what to do parkour isn't a competition

  • they're retards. that not even parkour. its freerunning. how to flips help u escape?? this is bs.

  • THANK YOU! Finally, someone understands the difference between parkour and freerunning, Parkour is getting from point A to point B as fast as possible with a couple of vaults and other manouvers. Freerunning is just for show.

  • @robert11222 lol how do flips stop you from escaping? your BS their is no difference between parkour and freerunnning just difference in peoples style of movement.

  • Wrong man.. Parkour is from getting to point A to point B as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Free running is similar, but effectively just throws a shit load of tricks into it and isn't necessarily about getting from one place to another.

  • @woodmaister So you're telling me that people who do free running dont do parkour and vice versa? yes the original movements were based on getting from point A to point B as efficiently as possible but i dont understand how a front flip is inefficient... its on the neutral ground. some people like to do them some don't, but either way it's parkour.

  • rAY, the front flips would slow you down because you can't focus on landing and getting off as fast as possible, the front flip causes you to lose your orientation, thus slowing down your progress from Point A to Point B. It might be parkour, but it's not efficient parkour ;D

  • @woodmaister but at times when you NEED to get to point A to point B ofc your not going to do flips but if your training I don't see what wrong with some creativity in movement...

  • @rAYHz23 k.... think of it this way, parkour its more of a tool; getting from one place to another the quickest way you can and freerunning is more of an art form; a way of expressing your feelings through motion and freedom of motion

  • @woodmaister freerunning is the same that parkour, Sebastian Foucan just translated it to english

  • @ExecutionerMakyura

    that's not true !

Parkour is the simple way to get faster from a to b

Freerunning is the same but the difficult way with flips and spins!

  • who says that !?!?!?!

  • @woodmaister yah like doing tricks can be added in parkour like lets say u do a speed vault over a fence and then land and do a backflip. thats not realy freerunnung but thats what i thought it was but really freerunning is running freely about the streets and practicing parkour. frerunning gets you ready for parkour sort of so that u can get from poin a to point b

  • @woodmaister parkour and free running are exactly the same thing, if you look back into the history of it parkour actually has three names. i honestly can't remember the first and original name for it bit it means to go around obstacles in french. then parkour became the name for it in europe. to make it easier for people to understand around the world they made and english translation and called it free running. all still the same exact thing.

  • @spacedog05 I think the word you are searching for is: l'art du déplacement, but it's true that they translated Parkour into free running.

However, things has changed. Free running still ain't the same as Parkour.

Parkour is getting from point A to point B the most efficient way, and free running is getting from point A to point B the most creative way.

Get your facts right before you start flaming ppl. ^^

  • @PKAndersS thank you!! how come no one else can figure that out. the two definitions grew seperate. i wonder how it happened, but it definatly did.

  • @PKAndersS

For me, I see no diffrence between freerunning and parkour. The orginal name was art du déplacement, but then it changed to parkour, and then freerunning.

Exactly the same method of training, the same spirit and approach to training, and EXACTLY the same nine founders. I see no diffrence.

However, I today acrobatics bough on the streets is considered as freerunning. Ask Sebastien Foucan and he would say that acrobatics bought on the streets simply is.. acrobatics.

  • @spacedog05 lol no it does not mean to go around obstacles but to use them to your advantage to increase speed freerunning is parkour with a bunch of tricks thrown in

  • @spacedog05 l'art a du placement original name of parkour

    names dont matter just move:)

  • @multisynu that's what i'm tryin' to say. it really shouldn't be that big of a controversy as long as you do exactly that. move.

  • u dumbass. freerunning is 2 just 2 look cool as parkour is to get from point a 2 point b as fast as possible. ur an idiot. maybe someday it'll get thou ur thick skull.

  • actaully this sepearation happened after, the documentary jump britain and jump london. sebastien says that parkour is freerunning, but thats only because its what he thinks parkour is, but we really know through david belle, that parkour is about effeciency, and rather then finding your way.

b4 all this, parkour was actaully freerunning jjust in english.

  • this is fucking retarded there killing parkour

  • No see killing it would mean, applying rules to what you can and cannot due.

  • Man this is urban freeflow all over again, making a mockery of parkour

  • thank you Kirbyhs, im gald you see right thru this BS i dont see any skill just luck and force...im sorry David Belle it wasnt suppost to be like this>.>

  • hey this looks awsum

is it being broadcast in britain if so when?

if not can someone send me a link where i can watch the whole thing plz :P

  • This is so lame and forsed. What a fors...

  • wallflip in 0:28

    Incredible footage

  • Muito bom irmão! xD

  • it was awesome i loved it. in fact it wasn't as competitive as i though it would be. id say everyone had a fair chance to win.

despite some bumps and bruises. everyone did great..

    congratulations Daniel.

  • anyone know what song this is?

  • i just tryed on mtv and saw it...it's basiclly who the biggest bad ass! i love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm going to upload this full thing on youtube on october 23, 2009 !!!

  • YESSSS man thanks

    please upload it!!!

  • when it will be in mexico please ansewr i need to now?

  • reality tv in India is f_d up man we don't have shows like this

any body wanna watch the f_king roadies?

    i don't think so

  • the day i die is he day the media buys the sport over.

i am faithful that our boys won't give in to the competitive feeling thats in the title. I have faith in the guys to say what they know they need to say when mtv shows them talking about stuff.

and i know the "winner" will do the right thing..we will see all traceurs as "winners" because they had fun as a family doing one common passion. what ever stupid trophy they get..they all can hold together...

    best of luck to everyone

  • Parkour will never die. :D

  • AWESOME comment man!

And it's so true! People who keep arguing are still living in 2005 or something like that! As one sole community, we must trust each other. There's nobody I'd rather prefer to take this step (taking parkour to mass television) than the WFPF, it's like the "best" (as far as the word fits) traceurs/freerunners in one place!

  • this is some freerunning/tricking .... i hate publicity... ruins everything

  • publicity ruins nothing, greed does.

    C.R.E.A.M.

  • true, greed leads to publicity though

  • also, the people believe what the media tells them... publicity

  • @dogharper deep...

  • Fors

  • when will this be on in the uk?

  • i think is to late to apply..

  • 0:19

    Damn, that looked bad.

  • yeah was there a mat underneath or did he just die?

  • Competition is the easiest way for the media to allow something to become more appealing to an audience, especially to an audience that isn't familiar with the art, sport, discipline and etc. This show has some great figures representing Parkour and their presence will allow for the right message to be expressed. Look at it as an opportunity for the right people to represent Parkour respectably and enjoy their movement and hope philosophy will be present in the airing as I'm sure it will be.

  • spoken righteously my friend. the media ruins everything...we have a fight against the media that we cannot loose. they managed to dig into every other sport but they aren't taking free running or parkour and tearing it away from the disciplines that these representatives have sewn.....no way

  • i agree

  • SHIT IT'S GOING TO BE ON MTV

  • why = fame.

Anyone one of us would do it if we could!

  • crap its a competition?

    i hate mtv execs now..

  • Exactly, parkour isn't supposed to be about competing, its just a company wanting to make some money....

  • "hosted by Nitro Circus" loool what an irony :D

  • i dont realy care who wins just hope its going to be a good show and learn what experience's all the tracur's have been through looking forward to it :)

  • mtz has awsome shows

  • i see bad bails and parkour/freerun in one trailer, what message should i expect yet? that we all should go out an train safe...know our limits? yeah everybody who sees that will think so....

  • @stylemonsta: You share the same fears as many who reacted on the video before you. If you've got a little time, make sure to read some of the stuff that CrazyRican158 and Chrisilabaca said in the comments here. They're doing their very best to promote the ideas behind the discipline even though the setting will be created by MTV. I agree the message is confusing, but if you don't jump in to fight this from within, what can you say afterwards? Hope you can agree with me on that ;)

    Peace

  • what can you expect from MTV? i mean i think this is about as good of publicity as parkour will get.

it looks like it will be an entertaining show, and i watch TV to be entertained not to learn discipline.

  • it's gonna be legen....

  • wait for it.... dary!

  • i'll be waiting.. 27 oct 2009

  • :35, Tim Shieff =D, I want him to win although i think that Daniel Ilabaca probably will -_-

  • hey guys we are from uk what time zone would that be ? cheers

  • It's 10 p.m. east coast US time. Looking forward to the show!

  • This looks awesome. I loved Nitro Circus, and now MTV has a parkour show it should be extremely great =P

  • Beasts!

  • kinda defeats the purpose of free running... I thought it was suppose to be getting from point A to point B in no one thought possible, not a competition whatever They aren't the best but It'll be interestng

  • Haha aren't the best? Do you know who Daniel Ilabaca is? Not to mention Livewire just recently won the 2009 Barclaycard Freerunning Championships. Ryan Doyle is a former Red Bull Art of Motion Champion...I'm going to stop talking now because if you didn't know who these individuals are to start with, hopefully you'll go research them now

  • I have some of their videos, just like you probably have. These people have great physical skill, that goes without doubt.

At the same time, dchris has a good point, a competition element upsets a lot of people (you can read it in the reactions above), because parkour/freerun is not aobut being the best physically, it is about being the best you can for yourself and those around you. What good is being strong physically, but a genuinely unpleasant person at the same time? Or 'winning' here?

  • I think the people working with the show are demonstrating to the best of their ability that parkour/freerun is exactly about being a strong and genuine person and respecting and helpful to those around you. Read CrazyRican158's message a while up ('view all comments') :)

On top of that, make sure you read what Daniel said in the 'about me' box of Chrisilabaca's YT profile. I hope that will give you some confidence in the process and sends the message of what it is all about for all of us! ;)

  • I was going to mention Daniel Ilabaca to him but i never knew Livewire won a Freerunning Championship, i knew he was good but never that good.

  • Alright throw some names at me cuz Im not going to look em up anyways cuz I'm almost positive I will see better. Cane / Cole / Chris Armitage and David Belle is another great one. stfu

  • Your ignorance is hilarious.

  • you're dumb

  • AMAZING!!!

  • I'm non-competitive, but I don't fear it. It's like porn - if you don't like it, don't watch it!

All these guys are not only excellent freerunners, but excellent community members. We'll all be lucky if kids see this and say "I want to be like Ilibaca and Orosco". These guys don't have egos, and they're authentic people who love what they do and help others. That makes for great role models. Even if MTV edits this badly, at least they tried. Putting yourself out there is very hard. Props

    Peace

  • ohhh my god i'hop to be there some day

  • Comment removed

  • Obviously TAECEUR thanks for pointing out what we all know.

  • PRO PARKOUR IS AGAINST COMPETITION.

  • This excites and worries me. I'm sure many people feel the same. Best holding our tongues untill we see the finished piece though.

  • share your view... just message me! x

  • This looks sik!! and thanx for inspiring me to get better and try harder love your vids bro.

    peace

  • when you get the chance take a look at my youtube page for more of my thoughts about the MTV thing... its in the area / saying ABOUT ME.

    god bless

    Dan

  • They are the best people to control it - to keep the spirit of parkour, especially Danny - this is the first time he got involved in this kind of event. Just imagine what a mess it would be if they refused and other people toke part...

  • Hey this isn't Parkour its mainly free running.....

and btw Plz parkour isnt competitive..

And don't break the concept of Parkour!

  • So coool, big parkour flips,Mtv parkour style:)

I cant wait,it feels like the matrix xd

  • cek sta... jel nismo mi protiv toga ili je ovo sarkazam?

  • Parkour flips competition ;)

  • not parkour, mainly freerunning.

parkour does not have competitions, bringing competition into parkour goes against its philosophy.

could you atleast rename the show as ultimate freerunning championship or something?

  • if they wanted to show parkour to the world, they could have made a documentary about it.. not freaking show... cuz thats all this is.. a big show (off)...

  • @creature300: A documentary would ofcourse be better, but I think that it is not possible to stop a process like a large scale television production. Before people are even contacted there is probably already a lot of promotion and work put into it. You won't convince anyone to throw that away simply because they might be misrepresenting the discipline. Seeing some of the reactions here I'm guessing it will be a hit show wether or not the right people are involved.

  • Just be glad the 'right' people got involved by now and they are doing their best to use the concept to make something good out of it. :) The other part is getting involved with other/local practicioners yourself and spreading the 'right message' as best you can ;)

You don't have to stand for the concept of the show and the competition aspect, but let's appreciate the work being done. Let's wait and see what happens when the first episode airs.

Just don't stress out, it's bad for you ;P

  • @TimH86:

    i guess you're right..

well we can just hope that editing will be the way it's supossed to be (but i somehow doubt it) and that the real meaning of parkour/freerunning would be shown..

    peace to all :)

  • Greaat Video. I Like It

I love the MTV part from Daniel it has *motivated * me

    Greetings From Germany !

  • congragulations'

  • great video very crazy, wonderful level in parkour and freeruning

  • oh Hell Yeah! i gotta watch it!

  • looks intense.. i wonder when its gonna air in south africa....

  • This looks soo awsome

Never knew u lot Meet some Nitro cirus as well sick

  • Whats this about man? just a TV Show?

  • great trailer!!!

    00:19 looks hard

  • Worried about some of those bails, thats showing some serous lack of focus on safety that their were that many terrible bails during the shooting.

  • whats it about? is it like a "ninja warrior" for runners?

  • holy moly wtf this is crazy im so gutted i dont have mtv ;(

  • Some one should record this upload it on youtube?

    It looks f**king good

  • Very nice. Look forward to it.

  • holy shit i am so watching this

  • i actually jizzed

  • crazy yeeeee XD cool

    muy chido

  • not rly pk but ok...

  • Watch the show to see the Parkour round!

  • wow i have to watch this

  • 0:20 looks pretty painful

  • Interested in seeing the final thing based on Daniel Arroyo's comments.

Small question concerning this : how was safety handled during the filming of this ? Was there crash mats ? Because the two bails shown in the trailer are pretty horrific ahah. Does it take place in the street or on a set path ?

  • Aww i cant wait to see the nitro circus episode

  • Trailer is very cool !!! =)

  • You guys are judging something before you even know what's going on. Yes there will be a winner in the end, BUT during the show you hear from all the athletes and you get a better understanding that wow this isn't about who wins this is about their passion and their own progression with in themselves. I just say wait and watch the show and then base your judgment upon what you have seen.....

    Much Love - Daniel Arroyo

  • blablabla...when its not about winning why is there a winner?! as soon as there is someting to win, its a competition. its a contradiction to parkour. Ofc i think its good that guys like ilabaca are involved, but that doesnt make this project good. its still absolute crap, imo

  • I respect your opinion, but having a winner is the only thing MTV wouldn't throw out. I understand your position, but take this into account. MTV would have done this with or without us. It is just best that they included Traceurs that can portray our passion over others that would have just been trying to throw the biggest trick and take competition to a state of rivalry!

  • Yea, i know that. i think so as well, and im glad that guys like ilabaca (you?) are involved because i believe that they (you?) can make it better. but to me it still sucks, no matter who is involved. that has nothing to do with you and your work, its not in your power to turn it into a real "parkour show".

i appreciate what they(you?) do, but the project itself is still crap to me. Hope that made my opinion clear, in case you got me wrong

    Greetz from germany (:

  • Actually that really does clarify your opinion much better, I appreciate you taking the time to express how you feel..

    Thank you.

  • I've trying try to figure out what exactly the show is. I mean I originally didnt like the project because of the competition aspect as well but seeing people like D. Ilabaca, Arroyo, Phil Doyle, etc does make me feel better in that they probably arent in it for the competition aspect in itself but what exactly is the basis of the show? Or will I just have to wait till it airs? lol

  • Yes. I'm having the same interrogations. Also, is it only one episode ? If not, how much episodes will air ?

  • Why MTV is airing the show, and why the traceurs are participating are two entirly diffrent things. MTV might be trying to portray this in a competitive aspect, however, judging from what Daniel Arroyo and Ilabaca have written, and what King David has told me, they are just trying to show people what they are doing and why.

  • Супер ! А в у нас покажут ?

  • oh no! not that please! its good to get a chance to become famous but MTV is a ultimate evil. after it parkour will lose a part of its beauty. shit!!!

  • no it wont... that attitude is what will make parkour lose its beauty.

  • As long as people know in their own hearts and minds what parkour means to them, I think its safe to say that the sport will keep its beauty. Parkour is a personal thing for people, its their life, their experiences and their time spent training, so as long as people know what they have put in they will always appreciate the beauty of it. As far as the MTV thing I think its good to have some top traceurs shed their feelings on parkour to media people who don't understand it.

  • Уахахахаха.. "МТВ" добралось и до паркура. боже мой, МТВ - вселенское зло, оно портит все, до чего дотронется!

  • sick

  • yea.. bastards.

no spirit. just the chance of earning more and more money -.-'

  • i hope you dont think that of me my friend...

    Daniel

  • This is becoming confusing, are there different people on the same profile responding to eachother? :/

Whatever the fact, I guess MTV will make a show like this even if you choose to stand aside. I think the only wise thing to do is to (reluctantly) join in with them, have fun and use the show for all the good you can make of it. The second trailer that you uploaded gives me confidence that you are doing your very best. Good luck to you guys and have fun!

  • WTF !!!

    D=

  • mtv destroying everything ftw!

  • that might be there inte
