an update to myself... Governmenmtal interference is especially important nowadays in order to keep the economy running and cash flowing. The world economy comes to an halt is Goverments don't support companies with works, like infrastructural works. It's like what happened in Germany in the '30 of the 20th century.
Hitler began to build the motorways, railroad and later huge warcraft spending. It helped Germany. I'm not saying we need a third worldwar but we need Government to activate companies by for instance beginning infrastructual renewal earlier than scheduled. The same for city renewal, building new things. The Eifeltower boosted French economy. The world exhibition in Spain did the same for the organizing cities. It's all public spending.
In Holland we have a culture of mutual understanding between the social partners (Government, employers and employees). They must work together to get things done. My country lies 5 metres below seelevel. Dikes keep the water out. That needs working together of the whole country and that cannot be done by Friedman's -laisser faire, laissez aller- economic theory.
free market...they make cars with names like KIA and they are sold.
free markets are imperfect Governmental interference is necessary

I suppose that explains why in Holland to many tax funded services have been privatized.
In Holland everything is small, so we don't have laisser faire, we have laisser faire-light.

I'm sorry to see that Iceland to got hoodwinkled by free-market fundamentalist Friedman.

I think we need him now more than ever

Indeed, if we all had paid enough attention to Friedman, this would never have happend.
btw; we Norwegians will stand by Iceland, come what may.

Hopefully we will find oil in the dragonregion.
Then Iceland and Norway will be brothers of oil in the north !

Iceland's government did exactly what Friedman said, as did the government of the US, Argentine etc. The result is global economic collapse.

Well, if you belive that, you need to read a bit more about it I'm afraid.
Happy reading :)
