There is no Hollywood in someones bedroom. Hollywood "glitz" is not influencing kids. A lack of a real education and a lack of real birth control is the problem, and until its addressed realistically nothing changes.
At my school, we had abstinence-only programs until - and including - 8th grade. Once we got into high school, though, they started switching it to "safe sex" programs... I'm not sure if this is how most schools are run, but by the time most kids had taken the (overly graphic) health class, the majority of them had already decided whether they were going to wait til marriage or not.
For the record, most of my "religious" friends are abstinent because of their religion.
It's not ridiculus, lots of girls DO get pregnant because they think they're gonna get attention and that it's gonna be fun. There are also a lot of women who do it for tax credits and welfare. The reason that nature gave teenagers the ability to have kids is because back in the day when most people didn't even live past the age of 30, people needed to have kids younger in life to allow the population to continue.
We lack the normal jobs we used to have where it was OK if something happened. We've put them overseas while we place more and more value on higher education - like it's some sort'of cure. Then we have things run, not by proven people, but by celebrities or rich people who got a piece of paper and can trap others then exploit them. The gap btwn rich and poor continues to climb unequally. One mistake, and you're poor for a generation where everyone has to take care of you and then your offspring.

Me and the father have spoke and we have spoke to our parents (who did raise us well and tought us well) and we've decided to keep the baby we're both in college and we are going to be dedicated parents. We know that all our dreams for the future are ruined but we are going to make it work. What I hate though is people say the kids are going to be all bad and druggies! Not if the parents raise them!

My husband and I intentionally got pregnant when I was 16. We had our own apartment, and he had a full-time job. She was born June 8, when I was 17 and my husband was 18. We are not accepting government aid. I am a stay-at-home mother and full-time (honors) student. I have a 4.0GPA and my daughter is the most intelligent child her pediatrician has ever seen. Not all teen pregnancies - intentional or not - end badly. Did Hollywood have anything to do with it for me? No. For others? Yes.

Its abstinence only (ie: avoidance of the issue), religious shaming of sex and women, and refusal to make birth control available to the newly sexual active teens (the group MOST likely to make sexual mistakes).
There is no Hollywood in someones bedroom. Hollywood "glitz" is not influencing kids. A lack of a real education and a lack of real birth control is the problem, and until its addressed realistically nothing changes.

At my school, we had abstinence-only programs until - and including - 8th grade. Once we got into high school, though, they started switching it to "safe sex" programs... I'm not sure if this is how most schools are run, but by the time most kids had taken the (overly graphic) health class, the majority of them had already decided whether they were going to wait til marriage or not.
For the record, most of my "religious" friends are abstinent because of their religion.

@FunJessica - There's nothing wrong with teens having sex, as long as it's consensual and they use protection. It's not just Hollywood which encourages teenage girls to have sex, it's America's bullshit sex ed program that amounts to "Just Hold It" potty training.

true but at the same time my high school had a significant increase in pregnancy when the secret life came out. the pregnant teens even watched it! it went from maybe 1 teen in our school getting pregnant to 6 in one year...our school is very small.

my school had about 150 kids total and 10-15 left to have a kid every year. it was pretty bad & the secret life isn't on in the UK. teenagers will continue to act recklessly because society has made it ok for them to. the government is catering to their needs, which has to be done but it's making it much easier for kids to have kids. in the UK, believe it or not, its been proven that a lot of teenagers over 16 under20 have kids just so that they can stay on benefits and don't have to work.

The reason that nature gave teenagers the ability to have kids is because back in the day when most people didn't even live past the age of 30, people needed to have kids younger in life to allow the population to continue.

We lack the normal jobs we used to have where it was OK if something happened. We've put them overseas while we place more and more value on higher education - like it's some sort'of cure. Then we have things run, not by proven people, but by celebrities or rich people who got a piece of paper and can trap others then exploit them. The gap btwn rich and poor continues to climb unequally. One mistake, and you're poor for a generation where everyone has to take care of you and then your offspring.

In the early ages of film and stardom, the female stars were owned by the moviecorps. They'd restrive contracts prohibiting them to marry etc.
Later on the women were "allowed" to, but as soon as something happened, like become a certain age, you could wave goodbye to your career.
Now women can and will pursue a career AND have children.
Teenpregnancies are very different and partly caused by abstinence only "sex-ed" pushed by the religous right, push out babies to please god programs.

i am seventeen and going to be having a baby, it had NOTHING to do with hollywood or anything near.. the father is still around and i am having the baby in 1 month. this is all bullshit, i know plenty of 'adults' who are way worse parents than any teens i know who have babies.

Right and wrong are such relative terms. I am 17 and my daughter is 4 months old and she is happy as fuck. Guess who the fuck is taking care of her? My motherfuckin self and her daddy. Even when we didn't have a fuckin dime her belly stayed full and her ass stayed clean.

i think teens are getting pregnant because sex isn't such a taboo anymore, its still not widely accepted but its pretty much expected of teens to have sex (which is stupid b/c not all teens want to) and the whole education thing is part of it, though ive had three health health classes throughout my twelve years of education, besides if you care so much then parents should be responsible for teaching their kids about sex not schools.....that was a really long comment
