The F-35 is the most expensive military project ever run due to engine failures, avionic failures etc. The jet costs double it's quoted price...

@abcabcabdfg Speed is not a cruicial afctor in aircraft engineering anymore, a single engine gives alot of extra benefits, better fuel efficiency = longer range, and less maintenance.

F-35 got its sting in stealth and the B-version in ability to take-off without runway.

In red flag 2008 with IAF Su-30 MKI (same system as Su-35) The F-22's were well above the MKI's. they said that the MKI was a tad better than the F-15 and F-16, but the Raptor was much btter than the MKI.

The russians have also had problems with the PAK-FA, and it was made a decade behind the F-22.

5th gen was in America 10 years before russia. heck they could probably even have stolen files about the F-22. they are known for copying the Allies. (Tu-4, T-4, Su-24, Tu-160, AA-2 atoll, Tu-204/214, YAK-38 and the Tu-144, which was a fail because of the fake papers planted by french counter-spies.)

This aircraft is really ment to replace the F-117. This isn't a fighter in a true sense, since it's main goal is to fly into enemy territory and drop two 500 lbs bombs and fly out. This aircraft would be nearly worthless against the Taliban since even Brazil's Super Tucano could deliver the same payload and do it just as effective, but cheper.

@orlock20 actually the F-35 is a true fighter with advanced air to air capability.people make the mistake and over look its air to air capability.its just as capable in the air to air role as any fighter out there with the exception of the F-22 and perhaps the Su-35,Eurofighter and maybe the Rafale.but make no mistake,the F-35 is very capable of going up against all those fighters i just mentioned and wining.

@Zed8690 Russian pilot, how? The Russians have no veteran experience to counter anything that the US has come out with. The Iraqis during desert storm were combat hardened veterans from a nearly decade long war with Iran and they couldn't shoot down any US or coalition fighters.

When a Russian MIG or Sukhoi pilot shoots down an F-15, F-22 or F-35 then you can say I told you so.

@nbenicewicz Agreed.in modern air combat U.S. aircraft have had an advantage against Russian aircraft especially the F-15.no F-15 has ever been lost in air to air combat.you could say the F-15 is the best fighter ever made.many say that honor belongs to the F22.but until the F-22 beats the F-15's perfect combat record then in my view the F-15 is still the best.

@bingofioul F-15's defeated Mig-29's during the Iraq war and also in Yugoslavia in the 1999 war.also a number of Mig-25's were shot down in the Iraq war.i would say that the Mig-29 is slightly more modern than the F-15 but the F-15 has proved to be a much better fighter.

@SilverTaurus22 in irak there was almost 100 times more coalition fighters than iraki fighters in the sky with f111 forelectronic war and awacs, irak fighters were underequiped with old missile... that's the same for yougoslavia. the f15 is a good fighter but have never fought against an equivalent force...

@bingofioul The Mig-29 is a good fighter but it wasnt design to be a direct competitor to the F-15. The Mig-29 is smaller and more maneuverable but it carries a smaller radar and would lose to an F-15 at long range. If you want to compare close range performance then of course the Mig is better but really it was designed to compete with F-16's and F-18's which both outmaneuver the F-15. The F-15 and Su-27 are closer together in a comparison.
