Since we start with the Kepra, 3 times a day Dusty doing allot batter. She didn't had a seizure for the past 6 weeks VS every week she use to have. Thanks for Dr Barry from Irvine animal specialty group we sleep good and not living in a fear that her seizure is close every day.
That idiot that recons it's funny Dusty haveing a seziure NO KNOUT funny about. She must be so confused when she comes round as I see she walks round & does not appear to know where she is at first. How is she these days? Please keep us posted on her progress thanks
Dusty receive twice a day morning and evening...1grain Phenobarbital (which is the highest dosage for a dog), 800mg Gabapentin, 300mg Zonisamide and for hip pain tramadol.
Her Neurologist called and offer to put her again on Keppra but this time higher dosage...he claim that recently he raise the dose on similar case to Dusty and got good result. Will start next week and will see how it goes...keep u inform.
Thanks for the update 5 days ago, it sounds like she's still having them with out much change. Whats the next step? She's about 9 years old now is she? Sounds like this esculates from a road accident as you mentioned you found her by the road side in 2003. What can be done now? I'm VERY interested to know as I'd like to work for the PDSA that treats sick pets such as dogs & I'm sure I'd come accross this sort of problem in future. Please keep us posted thanks!
I found Dusty in Israel at the side of the road on may 3rd 2003 at the time the vat said she's around one year old. so she should be 9 years old give or take now. when i found her she was lying at the side of the road after car accident around 3am. i rush her to the nearest pet hospital and she's with me since then. she's a mix with Shepherd and Canaan dog which is a pure Israeli breed and one of the oldest exist. Again thx for the support and may god bless you all. Ron
i came to the point that where I'm willing to try anything so don't hesitate if u hear on a new drag or new way.....we still open. YES it's hard to hear it every time but she has them once in 10 days. sometime early morning and sometime afternoon. she's a great dog happy and got lots of love.
thx all for sharing comments and thoughts. to all wonders we already tried all....name the drug or combination and be sure she was under it for awhile. we tried different dosage as well. still the same no change and her neurologist try every time to find a new way or a new medication.
So sad to see her in such a state. I've been a pet sitter, worked for RSPCA & other though I've never come across a dog, cat or other pet with this terrible condition. The noises she was making were so sad to hear, you feel helpless. There are courses on animal first aid. May be a course of accu puncture may help her. It makes you wonder what's safe to feed you dog. Boiled chicken, egg, rice and pasta are very good for sick dogs. Destemper can cause epilepsy. Please let us know how she's doing.
This happens to our dog. He has just started having them and is currently on 60mg per day Phenobarbital which seems to be working. We've also had to take him off commercial dog food completely and feed him on chicken, fish, rice and vegetables. Dog food contains additives which are not good for dogs that suffer with seizures.
So far I have discovered that seizure can be caused by vaccine, medicine, microchip, wireless router and phones, electromagnetic fields, flea, tick and heartworm preventative, household chemicals, dog shampoo, parasites, allergy, irradiated food and treats, preservative, insecticide, pesticides, many herbs, especially herbs like yucca and rosemary extract in the food and treats, unknown toxic ingredient in dog food and treats made in China, synthetic vitamins, extract derived from whole food.
I had a beautiful boy shepherd who had seizures something like that. We had to put him on medications. Dusty is just a gorgeous gsd. I hope everything worked out.
im, soo really sorry, it breaks my heart, i started to cry, it must put you through a lot of pain watchin him go through this and nothing you can do about it. i wish i could help. im very. very sorry. if you ever need anyone to talk to im pretty sure there are other people, but im with that crowd. :'(i reappy wish he is ok,
I hope dusty is doing better. If you have tired all the medications like phenobarbital and potassium bromide, you may want to do check on changing his diet. I have been able to find a lot on diet changes to help dogs with epilepsy. I really hope dusty is/gets better.
My heart goes out to you, my dog has seizures too. I know how you feel. I'm glad your dog Dusty is doing better.
